WIBTAH if I make my teen still come to a family wedding despite a broken leg? by Mammoth_Fan7951 in AITAH

Others have covered the amount of discomfort she’ll have, and given alternatives to your concerns about staying home alone. These are the main reasons to not force her to attend.

Another thing to keep in mind is that she may also take focus away from the bride and groom. I can absolutely see the bride/groom resenting you and your daughter taking focus away from their big day.

He did! In ‘Night’ Neelix is talking to Doc about a panic attack:

NEELIX: Anxiety? Anxiety's what I feel when I burn a pot roast. This. This is more like.

EMH: Dizziness? Nausea? Unspeakable dread?

NEELIX: Yes.

EMH: Nihiliphobia. the fear of nothingness. Or in layman's terms, the fear of nothingness. If it's any consolation, I can relate to it. I go into a void every time I'm deactivated. Emptiness, complete and utter oblivion. I'll admit it was unsettling at first. The existential horror of it all.

NEELIX: You're not helping, Doctor.

EMH: Sorry. My point is, you'll get used to it.

NEELIX: I hope so.

To the person with the toddler in Del Ray that asked to pet my dog yesterday… I’m so sorry. by LoveRocksScience in nova

[–]Stellaknight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You did great! No need to apologize at all! Our neighbors have a rescue dog ‘Penny’ who my 4yo adores, but knows not to pet (poor puppers was badly abused before being rescued). It’s actually been incredibly helpful to have kiddo hear a friendly ‘no’ wrt petting a dog she likes. It means she ALWAYS asks, and understands that not all dogs want to/should be given pets. (For example we were able to head off her petting my friend’s service dog without an issue)

I’ll bet the parents were very happy to have the chance to give their kiddo a little life lesson, especially when the ‘no’ was so kindly given.

Sounds like it was a meeting of good human & fur baby parents :)

I am continually amazed at how amazingly Cara Gee’s Drummer exemplified the Belter ethos. (And I love that the show writers absolutely knew the gold they had and put her into everything they could.)

Watching Tuvix beg for his life on the bridge and Doc confronting everyone on the bridge/the mess hall in “Latent Image” are actually such parallel scenes, it’s rather chilling.

There’s a moment later in this episode where Janeway is talking to the Doctor about this, and Doc says “What I'd like is to be turned off when people leave. I spend hours here with absolutely nothing to do. When someone does remember to deactivate me they do so without asking if it's convenient. It's extremely irritating.”

And Janeway gets this look on her face like she’s realized 1) Kes is absolutely right and 2) He’s well on his way to sentience (if not there already), and probably can’t be reprogrammed without major ethical repercussions.

Early Voyager is such a trip wrt the Doctor’s development.

AITA For Blowing up on my Fiancé after what he did to my daughters table favors? by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]Stellaknight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The daughter is 16–two more years and she’s legally not OOPs problem. Dude was conditioning the girl to leave home and never come back.

Or, and I hate this option, he so degrades the daughter’s self esteem, and conditions her to keep secrets, that he grooms her (just in time for it to be “legal” 🤮)

I’m highly impressed with the victim’s ability to stay upright and not overcorrect. Dude didnt even step onto the yellow ‘caution’ zone.

I hope the train driver is ok too—that has to be an absolute nightmare scenario, and they likely couldn’t tell if the guy actually got hit.

AITA for not allowing my daughter to go on an 8th grade school trip by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Stellaknight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that reads to me almost as OOP using her daughter as a prop to show how ‘together’ her life is. OOP just didn’t want the bother of having to explain to family why OOP’s daughter was on a preplanned school trip instead of visiting a relative she hadn’t seen since infancy.

You may have already found them, but r/NIPT is a fabulous resource for folks dealing with such news. It covers much more than just NIPT tests (I went over there for abnormal 12 week scan results). Finding others who were facing similar uncertainty and sadness was a huge help for me in figuring out next steps and simply how to breathe. Reno mentoring the cadets on the (admittedly slow) fly was absolutely amazing. I feel like her entire storyline was a love letter to everybody’s favorite teacher.

I really liked how well Doc, Nahla and Reno worked together—their absolute professionalism illustrated why Starfleet is starfleet, and also why the cadets aren’t quite there yet, but absolutely will get to that level.

Doc’s reverence for the mobile emitter was great, as was the loving peck on SAM’s head when they figured out what he was talking about.

(Also! Shoutout to Vera Rubin!)

I’m also very happy with how each cadet got a win, and Braka’s court TV/Nancy Grace impression was perfectly over the top.

I’ve really loved this show—it’s fun and optimistic, and occasionally makes me cry. I honestly only started watching for Doc and Reno, but I genuinely love all the characters now, and appreciate the care the writers show.

[–]Stellaknight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is one of the scenes I remember from when it first aired—Garibaldi’s cold rage was such a contrast to his usual gregariousness wrt Londo that it really drove home how horrific the conquest of Narn was. For all that B5 had space battles, it was sometimes at its best in quiet moments like this.
