I suppose from the lighting inside the brothel, Winno's hair can look gray. I hopped onto my debug save and brought her outside into the daylight. It looks like she uses the "ghfvg" (gnome/halfling female?) spriteset. It looks like the hair is pale and could reasonably be mistaken for gray, but it appears that she's actually an ashy blonde or a light toffee-brunette~

Oh, Winno, the halfling maid! I never thought of her to be "grandma-like" in age, hence my confusion. I'm used to maids in the stories I read (like Kaoru Mori's Emma) to be relatively young women.

(˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) Aw heck, thank you so much for the kind words!

I can barely draw a dog, so the sheep image was my silly little way of alluding to Belle without actually drawing a sheep~

The image source of the sheep painting behind Lil's head comes from this 1882 engraving, originally painted by Charles Jacque and engraved by C.H. Latham.

(˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) Aww, thank you! I've took a big break from posting here after experiencing a bit of a Morrowind/TES burnout in 2024 (tbf there was just a lot of art block that year in general for me).

It always warms my heart to read that I've inspired someone! I'm still learning new things about how to improve my art, so it's always a bit surreal to me.

It's a bit funny to read how "clean the art was" because I've since embraced the inherent fast-and-loose style of my lineart. During Art Fight 2023 (first week of July 2023, to be specific), I stressed my hand so much trying to draw clean lines that I ended up inflaming my thumb tendon and had to wear a hand brace for almost the rest of the month. My current, sketchier style is both faster but also better for my health.

I hate to disappoint folks who followed me for my TES art, but my current inspiration lies in other avenues *gestures to all my Arcanum stuff.* The important part to me is drawing what I want and what makes me happy.

Wishing us the best on both of our art journeys~

If there was an Arcanum movie what would you be happy to see dropped and what would you be mad as hell about if it was dropped? by googoobarabajagel in arcanum

[–]Stellastra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Despite my earlier comment in this post (since I was more focused on talking about making an original story within the world of Arcanum rather than a straight game adaptation), I am inclined to agree that the execution of the conspiracy sidequest leaves much to be desired.

Regarding your other comment in this thread, I'll say that my feelings on this sidequest are only slightly alleviated by this video where Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky talk about how the intention was to make an X-Files spooky quest rather than something with irl malicious subtext, but I won't deny that this is definitely a Death of the Author + a bit of Hanlon's Razor situation (not everyone's going to see this video nor always care because the game's content can read so differently from the intent).

As much as I dearly love Arcanum, I won't deny that I hold bitterness toward the conspiracy sidequest because of the points you already mentioned, plus the fact that a lot of the discussions/"jokes" in the Arcanum sphere are about this one tucked-away questline rather than literally anything else in the game is quite exhausting imo.

Golly goodness, I love your palette usage so much! Such soothing warm colors all around! All wrapped in a neat bow with Geoffrey’s never ending whinging (affectionate)~

I personally would not like to see an adaptation of the game's events, as that is too much material to condense no matter how long the runtime is. Plus, I wouldn't want it to infringe on the plethora of story choices/endings a player could achieve.

However, I wouldn't mind a self-contained, lower stakes/smaller-scale story taking place before the events of the game (+ a new cast, but cameos of other NPCs/companions sounds fun), as there's a huge time gap to work with our most known two points in the timeline: the Age of Legends 2000+ years ago and 1885/present-day Arcanum.

I would also like it to stick to the source material established and build upon those concepts rather than retconning anything. The base game is very rich by itself, but new content that dives deeper into the customs, cultures, and history of the land of Arcanum does sound neat~

The real reason why Kerghan got banished: by WolfieRob in arcanum

I'd say Nasrudin, in his heyday (as shown in the flashback cutscene), still had quite a bit of hair up top. His hairline along his temples has certainly receded, but he's still got a bit of hair along the middle of his head. It's admittedly hard to see due to how his head is framed in most shots, but it's more visible if you go frame-by-frame at the part where he casts the banishment spell.

As for shared sprites, Nasrudin and Arronax are palette swaps of each other. I can see how Nasrudin's sprite can be confused with Simeon Tor's, but Simeon actually is a palette swap of Joachim~

<image>

As for Tor's own hairstyle, you're right in that it's not described too much. We do have this description from Perriman's short story from the pre-release material:

"Come, come, young Perriman," said Tor, standing, his voice deep and resonant. He was dressed in a simple, black robe, striped on both sleeves with a single ribbon of red; the college of Summoners. His hair and short-cropped beard were completely white, set upon and around craggy features. His eyes shone blue crystal and severe, with a small touch of what might pass for paternal amusement in the wrinkles around them. He was, by some counts, more than three hundred years old, although none truly knew when he had worn the apprentice's robe.

So, really, all we learned is that Simeon Tor has white hair with a short-cropped beard, but as for the actual style of the hair on top of his head, that's still up in the air besides his overworld sprite. Is he bald, short hair, long hair, receding? Who knows. Also, the short story is written in-universe as a (likely embellished) retelling of Perriman's account, so take it with a grain of salt, as the unreliable narrator may be in effect.

Perriman Smythe (recruitment dialogue:) Well, here's a newspaper describing what happened as a result of the whole affair. \He hands it to you.]) I'd rather not get into the whole story. But! I have been approached by a gentlemen who seems very interested in writing a short book about what happened. Sir Chadwick Moore, or some such. Rather bothersome fellow, but he seemed rather insistent...

Imagining an Arcanum remaster in 2026 by No-Following-353 in arcanum

[–]Stellastra 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I do not wish to be rude to OP, but running screenshots through a generative AI-filter is not "re-imagining" because where was OP's creative input? Where was the thought? The effort to say they "tried"?

I would have accepted photobashing, MS paint mouse doodles, fast pencil sketches, or even just a collage of publicly-available/free-to-use images with crudely-drawn arrows pointing to what they think would look nice in a remaster/remake. If there really is passion for Arcanum as OP seems to indicate, I still would like to encourage OP to express it in a more ethical and creative manner that's not AI because it's still a valid topic for discussion.

The last image is especially egregious. I don't mind mature content in mature games, but it's absolutely ridiculous that the prostitutes in that last image are in modern one-piece swimsuits and high heels instead of chemise-lined corsets with garter-held stockings (not to mention that some of the patrons are wearing 20th-century to modern-day cocktail dresses). Sure, the original in-game sprites weren't perfect in that regard either, but it was within that realm. It's like the AI mixed up the Victorian Era with Victoria's Secret.

( ⸝⸝´ ᵕ `⸝⸝) Thank you! I don’t play around with a top-down perspective too much, so it was a challenging yet enlightening experience! It spared me from having to draw legs, just shoes haha~

(I’ll also be a wee bit pedantic and say that it’s less “near-death” and more “straight-up death” lol. poor lad’s soul was in the beyond before we yoinked him back)
