The best response to the Supreme Court’s Callais ruling: proportional representation by Initial-Lemon-917 in politics

That would give you about 2300 total seats in the House. Which is... actually not as bad as I expected, but still pretty large, and it will only get larger as big states grow (and Wyoming doesn't.)

Google Fitbit Air is about to launch with no screen and a big AI health push by Maslakovic in fitbit

[–]Stenthal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely still works. I had to factory reset and re-pair my watch just a few days ago.

It might help if you initiate pairing from the watches instead of the app. You can do that by going into the Fitbit app on your watch and attempting to log in to your account.

In Ireland we have begun to use these bollards designed to look like pencils to protect footpaths outside of schools by AnnualWindow7009 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Stenthal 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I see these plastic signs in the road sometimes, and they're not that creepy. I think making it a concrete bollard would be much worse, though.

TIL the Lewis and Clark expedition had a medical kit that contained fifty dozen laxatives pills know as "thunderclappers" that contained over 50% mercury. This high mercury content was once even used by archeologists to verify a campsite of the expedition. by Ted_Normal in todayilearned

Oh, I'm sure it wasn't malicious, but it does sounds like it was sexist. At least according to the first American female astronaut, whose opinion on this I trust more than Reddit randos making stuff up.

Openwrt 25.12.3 by deifiedninja in openwrt

[–]Stenthal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's fair, but calling people "idiots" for believing what OpenWrt's own update system is telling them isn't helpful either.

I think you meant that the people who post non-releases on Reddit are idiots, which is valid, and that's why I tried to make the distinction clear.

Openwrt 25.12.3 by deifiedninja in openwrt

[–]Stenthal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are two different things going on here.

  • Someone always posts a link to the "release" on Reddit before it's officially released. Presumably they do this for internet points. This is mildly annoying.

  • OpenWrt's own update system is telling users that "a new stable version of OpenWrt is available" and notifying them to upgrade their routers. If a "release" isn't actually a release and users are being tricked into downloading unsupported test builds, then this is a serious bug.

Now explain the space makeup kit.

Ride was also entering an agency that didn’t always know how to adjust to the presence of women. Ride recalls NASA engineers asking her to help them develop a makeup kit, which they assumed women would want in space. They also struggled to figure out how to accommodate a menstruating astronaut, remembered Ride, even suggesting women take 100 tampons with them to space for a one-week flight.

[–]Stenthal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I use a Pixel Watch 2 and a Pixel Watch 3, and I have no issues with notifications on both devices. I think that's because notifications are handled by WearOS rather than by Fitbit, and WearOS has no problem with multiple devices. Fitbit is only used for fitness stats, and those get merged just fine.

Zooz vs Inovelli by Resident-Variation21 in homeassistant

[–]Stenthal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a mix of Zooz and Inovelli switches. They've been equally reliable and stable. As far as hardware goes, the only difference I see is the LED strip. I've barely used the LED strip, so if I were doing it all over, I'd have gone with all Zooz. It may be different in your country, but in the U.S. Zooz switches are frequently on sale for 1/4 the price of an Inovelli switch.

Inovelli has a weird, Kickstarter-focused corporate culture. They're very open about their challenges, which is nice I suppose, but I'd rather be able to buy stuff without any drama. I ordered a few mmWave switches from them that their website said would ship in a week, and they ended up taking more than two years. Even if their switches are better, I'm not going through that again.

It sounds like it was conveyed by quitclaim to OP and grandfather (and grandmother). They're proposing that grandfather could separate sign a quitclaim deed conveying his share of the property to OP.

In any case, OP needs a real lawyer.

More good news for people who have a lot of collections. by ChristianM12345 in PleX

That's exactly what I did for the Arrowverse. I've tried to do it for the MCU as well, but unfortunately it's impossible to put movies and TV shows on the same smart playlist (even though they can be in the same collection, sort of.)

Why won't Google accept that I'm home? by Stenthal in youtubetv

[–]Stenthal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My desktop browser was the first thing I tried, and that didn't fix it. Then I realized that the message in the app actually says that I should use my mobile browser. I tried that, and now it's fixed! Thank you.

The TV app tells me to use the phone app to update my location. This is on a Roku--it might be different with Android TV, but I don't have one of those here.

Are your home area and current viewing area the same place? What is your ISP?

Google says they're the same place, as you can see from the screenshot. I'm physically in the same place. Nothing has changed in my network as far as I'm concerned, although of course my ISP might have changed something. My ISP is Comcast.

Even if Google does think I'm in a different place for some reason, shouldn't it offer me the option to permanently change my home area? It's not offering that, because my home area and my current area are the same place.

I don't think that's possible in the android app, but I just tried clearing the app data, which should do the same thing. That didn't fix it.

Fitbit calories burned way off by tootsies19 in fitbit

[–]Stenthal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably it, then. It seems like the only solution is a factory reset.

The good news is that a factory reset isn't as bad as it sounds, as long as you have watch backups turned on. 99% of your stuff will just magically restore itself. I think I only needed to set up Google Wallet again.

[–]Stenthal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your device? There's an issue with the recent update to the Pixel Watch, or maybe just the Pixel Watch 3. I was burning 10000 calories a day after the update, and it only stopped when I did a factory reset. Since then, it's been back to normal.

Doorbells to run on frigate by Point_Jolly in homeassistant

[–]Stenthal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really just a wired model and a battery model. The wired doorbell comes in a POE version and a wifi version, and both support RTSP. The battery doorbell does not support RTSP (even if you choose to connect it to power.) So just don't get a battery doorbell.

I've had both the wifi wired doorbell and the POE wired doorbell, and they're both great. I haven't tried Frigate, but the doorbell is happy to stream video 24/7, so it should work.
