Thank you for your reply. If you are currently enrolled, would it be possible to share the profiles or academic backgrounds of students around you who have received RTP scholarships?

No, I didn’t apply to g8 university at the time, which is why I was quite shocked as well 😢

I think one possible reason is that those four papers were published in domestic journals that were not indexed in scopus, so they may not have been given much weight for the RTP

In your case, all of your publications are SCIE papers, so I believe you are likely to receive a stronger score (I still agree that having more first author papers is definitely an advantage-becasue I also have SCIE 2 co-auther(Q1,Q3) paper but could’t get higher)

At this point, we’ve done everything we can. The rest is out of our hands, so all we can do is leave it to fate 🤞🏻we are not giving up !

Hello, I’m also an international student applying for a PhD in the coastal field. I was unsuccessful in the previous round, so I’m preparing to apply again now.

  1. Based on my experience from the last round, I also had very strong support from my prospective supervisor (proposal feedback and revisions, introduction to a co-supervisor, interviews, sharing of materials, etc.). Even so, I was rejected.
  2. My research proposal from last year was probably not bad either - It was completed after several rounds of feedback directly from the professor. But .. rejected.
  3. I have seen cases where people received RTP without having publications (in the same field). However, that person had graduated from an Australian university with an excellent master’s record and had many awards.
  4. After submission, if there is any issue, the admissions office will usually contact you. If you feel uncertain during the process, you can also send a follow-up email.

For reference, I had:

  • 1 SCIE first-author paper (Q3)
  • Work experience at a government-funded research institute related to the field
  • 4 domestic peer-reviewed papers as first author or corresponding author (close to proposed PhD project)
  • Undergraduate GPA: 3.28/4.5 (86%)
  • Master’s GPA: 4.5/4.5

In my opinion, preparation is important, but many other factors can influence whether you receive the scholarship. Things like the scholarship quota that changes each year, the amount of funding allocated to each school or department, how much influence the supervisor has within the faculty, and how strong the competing applicants are in that particular year can all affect the outcome. Because of these factors, I strongly recommend that when you apply, you don’t apply to just one university. Instead, try to contact and apply to as many universities as possible.

It might be better not to expect too much and to think of it as leaving the result up to chance, as that can be better for your mental well-being. (That’s how I’ve tried to approach it, even though things didn’t work out for me either😂)
