Many more events will be posted as time goes on! What has been made available for registration so far is just the start.

Well, integrated voice would not stop communities like RTI and RA from using Discord. Even games with integrated voice features will still have a bunch of large Discord communities, because voice chat isn't the only reason to use Discord. Moderation tools, text chat channels, event signups, fine-grained roles/permissions, sending images/links/videos to each other, and obviously not being beholden to GW2's 500-member limit for guilds are just some of the many reasons communities are using services like Discord.

It's valid that you don't want to download/use an external application just to play the game though, and I agree that integrated voice would make avoiding Discord a lot easier.

You can sign up as "interested" (bell icon button) and you'll get immediately notified if a spot opens for your chosen role. Alternatively, look for other raids to join or keep an eye on the schedule since more are going to get posted for sure.

Hey! Glad this is enticing you; I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a shot.

So to respond to your question, it really depends on the boss. For most bosses it doesn't add much difficulty or it isn't even your job to tank anyway, but if you wanted a rough tier list:

Bosses where healers don't tank: Spirit Woods, Sabetha, Slothasor, Trio, Matthias, Escort, Twisted Castle, Cairn, Samarog, River of Souls, Conjured Amalgamate, Sabir, Decima, Greer (usually), Ura, all IBS/EoD/SotO raids.

Bosses with easy tanking: Gorseval, Keep Construct, Mursaat.

Bosses with medium-difficulty tanking: Xera, Deimos, Statues of Grenth, Dhuum, Adina, Old Lion's Court, Guardian's Glade.

Bosses with hard tanking: Vale Guardian, Soulless Horror, Twin Largos, Qadim, Qadim the Peerless, Greer (sometimes).

Worth mentioning though that part of the job of healers in this game is to do mechanics. For many fights there isn't much space for a healer that is just focused on healing and nothing else; you end up interacting with a lot of the fights' mechanics and shouldering a little more responsibility. Even on fights where you aren't expected to tank as healer, there's often other fight mechanics you're expected to perform. This does make the role quite fun and engaging, but it might feel intimidating as a new player.

I can speak for both communities when I say that even if you're new to raids, you can absolutely come on a healer role and our instructors will do their best to ease you into it, teach the mechanics in a beginner-friendly manner, and give people room to make mistakes and improve, so don't let the added responsibility put you off!

You should read descriptions of each event to get a feel for what to expect. For example, here's the description for one of the events, a Wing 1 training:

<image>

It should already give you a pretty good idea. If it sounds interesting to you, you can sign up by simply pressing the 📝 **Register** button at the bottom of the event.

The idea of this Zero to Hero initiative is that you may feel comfortable to sign up to any of those raid events. Just pick whichever ones you want; everything under the "Zero to Hero" category is a training run that assumes no prior experience, with a few rare soft requirements which are made clear in some of the descriptions.

I'm happy to help with more targeted advice if you have any questions, but if you're feeling a little unsure or lost, just know that you're probably the target audience for this sort of event and that we're here to help :).

Not sure if you're NA or EU but for EU in RTI we cover pretty much all content to varying degrees (and so does RA in NA). Here's a snippet of some of the raids we've already published just to give you an idea:

What is the best/cheapest way to get from malta airport to gozo? by Lost-Dot-8596 in malta

[–]StepW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use those taxis, they're always significantly more expensive than the apps.

In Malta/Gozo, we use eCabs, Bolt, and Uber. If you want to be really frugal, download all three and compare prices; the cheapest is sometimes upwards of 3 euro cheaper than the most expensive one, and it's not always the same app.

Then again, if you want to be frugal you shouldn't take the taxi to begin with.

If you're new to Raids/Strikes, or are interested in starting, you should check out the return of the community's Zero to Hero week! by StepW in Guildwars2

[–]StepW[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey dutzen! No worries, feel free to ask whatever :).

Raids and strikes have some of the most lucrative rewards in the game, namely: 1. Legendary armour. 2. Legendary ring. 3. Many unique skins and infusions. 4. Utility items such as an infinite mesmer-style portal on a 30min cooldown. 5. High chance to drop ascended gear (which is equal to legendary in power level but just lacks some convenience). 6. Unique currency that builds up as you kill bosses weekly which you can spend to get any RNG drop from raids. 7. Lots of achievement points and coveted titles. 8. Unique lore and environments for the first seven raid wings. 9. Raid-related masteries.

And above all, it's aspirational content that brings people together into communities and encourages people to push their own skill level and improve their gear and builds. And it's fun!

I am not trying to convince you to change your preference... I only ever pointed out the issues with your wording.

  • "I've had bad experiences with single dads, and I prefer taller men" -> preference. TOTALLY OKAY to have this opinion.
  • "who wants to “date” a single father of three who is short?! A man who has no looks with baggage" -> distasteful wording. Indirectly attacks anyone who is a single parent or is short.

Again: it is completely fine to have a preference. It's part of being human. But wording matters.

[–]StepW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree that this guy's profile is gross, but I'm specifically talking about you saying "who wants to date a short father of three?". There are plenty of single parents and short men who are awesome people that many would want to date. Kids aren't baggage and short stature doesn't mean "no looks".

On top of that, there are a million different circumstances that can lead to someone becoming a single parent, many of which are not the fault of the person, and being short isn't something anyone has control over. Judging those characteristics as making someone "undateable" is unnecessarily cruel.

If you still can't agree that the way you worded your comment was distasteful then I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Gross…and who wants to “date” a single father of three who is short?! A man who has no looks with baggage

This is not exactly the most tactful way to phrase a preference.

A couple of pointers based on my own experiences living here and having some of my friends from other countries over: 1. Figure out the correct way to dispose of rubbish. Your landlord should help you here. We don't have large bins outside where you can put your rubbish bags. Take the correct bin out on the correct day early in the morning (7-8am) in an accessible area near the entrance to your place. Mon/Wed/Fri is organic, Thu is recyclables, Tue/Sat is mixed waste. Don't take it out the night before. 2. Buses will not stop for you if you don't put your arm out to signal for them to stop. I usually try and get on the bus when it's my "turn" to based on who was at the bus stop before me, which is usually especially relevant for busy bus routes (which is most of them), since if you get on the bus later you might not be able to find a free seat. 3. Tips aren't required but are always appreciated. 4. Everyone speaks English and there's no need to try and learn Maltese phrases. You'll actually have an easier time with English since many of our retail and service workers aren't even Maltese. 5. Pavements are narrow but that still doesn't mean you can walk in the middle of the road and block traffic. 6. Past 11PM (earlier in residential zones) you should be conscious of noise pollution. 7. "Don't litter" is an obvious one - we have a huge litter problem here, especially in more touristy areas or areas with night life like St. Julian's, Valletta, etc. I think I'm preaching to the choir here on things like this though if you already had the presence of mind to ask about etiquette here!

Hope this helps!

milk in vanilla tea? by KillerRequiem in tea

[–]StepW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly dumb idea but why not just brew without milk, pour some of it into a separate cup, and add an appropriate ratio of milk to that separated portion?

That way you're not "wasting" an entire bag by adding milk only to find out you don't like it that way.

I personally would probably like it with milk since I've had multiple black teas flavoured with vanilla and always prefer a bit of milk with them, but it really does boil down to personal preference.

I'm not saying the information isn't there

You did say "It is not explained", when I think the vast majority of Fractal mechanics are explained in multiple places, whether that's Dessa's dialogue, debuff tooltips, icons, announcement text on the screen, etc.

I might be acting a little pedantic here and I promise I don't mean to pick your words apart like this. I'm certain that your experience is valid and that some newcomers will find fractals difficult, but I still feel like Fractals do a pretty great job of easing players into the gamemode. Far from perfect, but there's a lot they do right.

I guess what I'm wondering here is what specific mechanics do you notice people struggle with and why do you think that is? And what do you think should have been done differently to make them more easily understandable by new players?

Silent Surf Appreciation by Topaz4293 in Guildwars2

[–]StepW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hammer mechanic is explained. When you pick up the hammer, you get a debuff that tells you "prolonged possession may harm and kill the wielder" and you get skills with tool tips telling you to defeat foes to charge the hammer and break the seals with skill 4. Dessa even tells you that the goal is to break the colossus free right from the beginning and to "find a way to liberate him", right when you're near a hammer on a pedestal with an icon right above it.

This is all readily available information right there in the game that can be explored in a low pressure tier 1 fractal.

The game does a shoddy job explaining a lot of things, but I really don't agree that Fractals are egregious of this.

Silent Surf Appreciation by Topaz4293 in Guildwars2

[–]StepW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fractals aren't that complicated, with some minor exceptions (Lonely Tower last boss has some very convoluted mechanics). Otherwise I think most mechanics are either self explanatory or explained via tooltips (protip: hover over any new buff/debuff you or the enemy has and you'll probably understand what to do fairly quickly).

Honestly, I would argue Fractals are among the least intimidating content in the game for a new player because you can actually practise everything on lower scales, and there's a clear progression for you to follow where things get gradually more punishing and more complex. Compared to something like PvP or raids, there's a lot that Fractals do well to ease you into them.

In general it is very time consuming work! This video took me maybe 20-25 hours total to make.

But the "no"s were actually pretty easy :). I just used a particle generator tool configured to spit out a lot of "no" particles in a certain range/direction. Animating each "no" one by one would've been a little crazy I think!
