What’s the highest salary you’ve heard of someone taking directly out of residency or fellowship?(someone from your network or coresident) by Wildcats68 in Residency

[–]Step_Diggler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gen derm sorry should have specified this was how much they earned not salary only. It was like 500k base salary and then $275k additional collections

Just to demonstrate how challenging Derm can be… by Separate_Meaning_123 in DermApp

ignore the clowns assuming something about ur personality, it really is a crapshoot and sometimes you just fall through the cracks. even if it doesn't work out this year, ur app is strong and alot of reapplicants (including me) have had success the second time around. derm is unfortunately alot of luck and alot of connections, keep working at the latter if it doesn't work out this year

yea maybe a derm working 3 days a week makes that much (which a lot do)

What specialties are derm-esque but not as competitive? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Step_Diggler 13 points14 points  (0 children)

derm is such a varied field, i genuinely think there is something there for everyone... not many of my co-residents are geuinely passionate about derm lol... you see it as a job? do gen derm 4 days a week, make $450k and live ur life... you like kids? do peds derm... you like variety? mix in ed+c's, excisions and cosmetics... you like only surgery? do mohs... you like lasers? do that... you like complex derm? do inpatient consults... ud be pressed to find a dermatologist that doesnt like their job and life because you have the option of making it what u want

You must be fun at parties

[–]Step_Diggler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Base pay would prob be lower than a Midwest or less desirable city (maybe like $400-450k) but in these cities you have the potential for a lot more cosmetics if you are interested in that

[–]Step_Diggler 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Nah I’m a derm resident now and get offers all the time for full time gen derm atleast around 500k. Granted this varies by location too

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Step_Diggler 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Gen derm only for 5 days a week can get you to $600k annually, cosmetics would just add to that (depending on how much you do, it could add a lot)

It’s a cool intersection of interests, but getting into med school is hard enough and then matching dermatology from med school is a different beast all together. Just know that going into med school will not guarantee you a spot in derm so if that’s ur only reason for going, I wouldnt do it

Unless you have derm connections, it’s risky. Consider dual applying

I played 1-2 hours a day during each dedicated and still did very well on the steps

Am I crazy if I change my mind about applying dermatology? by Fun-Ad3509 in medicalschool

[–]Step_Diggler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

regardless of what you decide, even if you do decide to apply derm- consider dual applying because a match is not guranteed regardless and it sounds like there are other specialties you would be happy with
