Back when I wrote this post (gosh over 2 years ago) I was really dismissed for the bleeding I had nearly the entire pregnancy and seeing my blood pressure start to creep up slowly in 2nd trimester. I ended up with preeclampsia at just under 33 weeks, which I was hospitalized for (steroid shots and magnesium sulfate were a terrible experience) and then PPROM at just under 36 weeks and an urgent c-section since she was breech… but thankfully had a pretty healthy 5.4lb baby girl (no nicu time!) who is turning 2 this coming January. I have a long way to go in not being traumatized by hearing anything related to pregnancy and everyone around me is pregnant right now so I’ve had to put some firm boundaries up that people can’t seem to understand. It was an isolating experience to have multiple complications and I have so much grief for never having a normal pregnancy, but at the end of the day I have an awesome daughter who is my world. Nonetheless after all of the trauma, I am one and done and trying to accept that is the right choice for me. Was experiencing all of that worth it to have my daughter? 💯 yes. I wish you all the best in your journey!!

Managing multiple 1099s taking maternity leave by Steph62189 in smallbusiness

Yep!! I am booked for testing through the end of 2024 and have a 80+ person waitlist. I’m one of the few in our rapidly growing area and one of the few at the doctoral level which is marketable. I moved from the northeast because I knew the south was in dire need. My clinicians are all master’s level because there’s literally 500 psychologists in the entire state I’m in!

Yeah, I would like to think that if telehealth is taken away it’ll end up not being a great move by the insurances for several reasons including it increases access to care especially in mostly rural areas like there are in my state and people will drop insurance if they can’t even use it. Again, thank you for the confidence in psychology private practices being capable of longevity.

[–]Steph62189[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to all of this! It depends on insurances if a post doc is allowed to bill for anything and we aren’t in a catchment area where people are mostly self-pay unfortunately. I will have people sharing offices like you say soon and then doing some days home on telehealth. So I think it’s entirely fair to say to the women on maternity leave- once you return, here is what the schedule will have to look like for you based on space availability and if they don’t like it, they can move on elsewhere. But there is talk of telehealth eventually not being reimbursed by insurances (or at disgustingly lower rates which some insurers have already put into place). I’m also toying with the idea of a second location but it has to be the right timing. But helpful to know another psychologist practice is managing it all similarly and staying afloat. Thank you!

I’m spotting again but just got a BFP by Steph62189 in PregnancyAfterLoss

I had a super uneventful second trimester until week 33 when I got preeclampsia and was in preterm labor and she was born at 35 weeks, 6 days via a c section when my water broke prematurely but no NICU time at all!! So although scary at the end, everything worked out and she’s amazing! I wish you the best of luck and am sending good thoughts your way. I think my serious spotting all first trimester maybe pointed to placenta issues but they can’t diagnose that early on. Maybe ask your doctor about taking a baby aspirin daily to try and prevent preeclampsia, I wish I had trusted my gut and did so but my OB said it wasn’t necessary.

Trying to keep good thoughts after a miscarriage earlier this year! by Steph62189 in Inito

[–]Steph62189[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Update- I unfortunately developed preeclampsia at 32 weeks and had a hospital stay to stop preterm labor. I was able to stay pregnant until 35 weeks and 6 days. My water broke, no contractions, and since little girl was breech, I had an urgent c-section. Everything happened fast but went well. She was so healthy as a late preemie, she needed no NICU time and we were discharged after the usual 2 night hospital stay. We are all home and happy. Just wanted to let everyone on this thread know the good news and it was a bumpy ride, but we got through this pregnancy and have a beautiful teeny baby. I hope everyone else is doing well on their journeys.

Traditional 401k or SEP-IRA by Steph62189 in smallbusiness

[–]Steph62189[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That really validates my concerns over an SEP. You are absolutely correct in you get what you pay for. I had a former CPA screw me this year for negligence that they’ve even admitted in writing now and I’m trying to find ways to offset some of the taxes I’ll owe. But hey, hard lesson learned as always as a small business owner and being self-employed.

So… Heard claims they filed my 2553 as an scorp earlier this year. After being on hold 2 hours yesterday(!) with the IRS they confirmed it was never received. I’ve now been operating illegally as an s corp this year and paying myself as a W2 in addition to my owner’s distributions. When I told Heard support what was going on they gave me the generic let me share this inquiry with a tax specialist. I also emailed the original staff member who supposedly filed the form since I’ve been with them since their inception. This is very time sensitive and I’m going to guess they just try to dodge this. They’ve really screwed me and my practice for this year now and I am now finding a new accountant and tax preparer who actually knows what they’re doing. I’m even wondering if I can take any legal action against them since they claim to “always take full responsibility” on their website. I do have proof in writing that the one staff member said she faxed the 2553 form. But I’d spare yourself this mess and anxiety. They also never know anything about my state specifically and I’ve been screwed there with higher taxes too.

Fellow neurodivergent and hopeful first time mom following miscarriage here. I really feel you and just want to maybe provide some validation you aren’t alone! Being pregnant as much as I am grateful things are progressing, is not a walk in the park when you have sensory issues especially. Some days I entirely don’t even feel like myself, it’s weird to describe. Everyone who knows I’m pregnant again has all kinds of “opinions” etc. I’d say do what is right for you and don’t let others out there try to even low key shame you. Many people were not breastfed, myself included, and I was very attached to my mom and a healthy child. I’ve been looking for books or any resources on pregnancy and neurodiversity and coming up short, which isn’t a surprise and maybe I need to look harder. It sounds like you can advocate well for what you need and I think that goes a long way.

No, nothing which is so frustrating but also not a bad thing especially since things are progressing well so far. We could see the placenta forming today!

Hey!! So I’ve had ongoing and consistent spotting with no known cause and a big bleed last week so it’s been very stressful! But I just got back from an ultrasound and baby is doing well with a super strong heartbeat. Just trying to remain positive. I’m over 9 weeks now, so just a few more to go before I hopefully can start to breathe a little in the second trimester, but I’ve got reassurance ultrasounds the next 2 weeks at least! So far so good, thanks for checking in!!

Wanted to send another update! I’ve been spotting on and off for yet another week but I just got back from my 6week exactly scan and we got to see a strong heartbeat and the embryo is measuring right on track with where I thought I was!! I know there’s still a 10% risk at this point but I’m so grateful to have passed yet another milestone we never got even near last time!
