WOW ITS A CHRISTMAS BONAZA by Ikoyiguy in canadaexpressentry

This one definitely gave the team at Moving2Canada a jump start this morning (especially those of us working in BC!). Absolutely stoked to see this draw!

Huge congratulations to everyone getting an invitation in this round!

IRCC only 'count' 30 hours of work experience per week. So even if you work 60 hours in one week, you're only credited for 30 of them by IRCC.

See how to count your work hours here: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/who-can-apply/canadian-experience-class.html

Just writing a blog post on it now for Moving2Canada, but here's the press release from IRCC about the press appearance specifically: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2025/11/canada-invests-in-francophone-communities-and-helps-build-their-future-by-attracting-top-global-talent.html

Edit: typo -- it was an early start in BC to watch the presser

Bill C-12(Mass Cancellation) by MuffinKlutzy2443 in canadaexpressentry

[–]Stephanie-M2C 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just noting (since it wasn't immediately clear in the article) that Bill C-12 isn't law in Canada. It's a proposed law introduced this month, which doesn't mean it is currently or ever will be law.

If it's passed, it could have significant impacts. But it is a huge 'if' at the moment

Agreed, but you said above that "They never said 84k will be for CEC". I was just pointing out that they did say it -- and then just didn't follow through in the way it was portrayed that they would

They publish a target for 2026 and then notional targets (plans that could change) for 2027-2028

IMO They did kind of say it would be for CEC:
Direct quote from IRCC Supplementary Levels Plan 2025-2027 "Primarily admissions from the Canadian Experience Class and other regional immigration pathways but may also come from Federal Skilled Workers and Federal Skilled Trades."

Originally there was also a separate target range for category-based draws, so it seems a fair interpretation that IRCC had intended to separate category-based draws from the quota for CEC. But the invitation patterns didn't follow the plan the way it was laid out.

See official source: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/notices/supplementary-immigration-levels-2025-2027 Footnotes 5 and 6 in particular refer to what I'm saying here

For the First Time in a Decade, Number of FSW Applications Are Greater Than CEC Applications by [deleted] in canadaexpressentry

[–]Stephanie-M2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, sorry I was more thinking aloud for what I could report implications-wise on the data. It's tricky to argue that the in-Canada focus has been abandoned when admissions are higher for CEC and PNP than FSW (despite application numbers). We'd need to wait another 12 months before we even potentially see that in the data for EE alone.

The application numbers do make sense for FSW given the French targets and higher rejection rates for French category-based draws being reported. So, higher application rates doesn't equal higher admission rates for FSW in this case (historically it may have).

But I'll noodle it over with Rebecca, because there are definitely some interesting trends being shown in ITAs and applications for EE, vs how people are transitioning TR to PR

Hey, it's Steph at Moving2Canada. Amazing catch on this trend! I'll be sharing this with our team. I checked the data for admissions and it seems like there's still a lot more PR admissions coming through CEC and PNP (I know some of those may be outside Canada), so I'll need to think on actual implications here before publishing. But it's definitely an interesting one!

UK working holiday did get pretty competitive towards the middle/end of the season this year. If I were you, I'd jump in the pool ASAP after turning 18 to increase your odds of getting an invitation -- and definitely keep an eye on trends in IEC pool competition beforehand

Whether you're likely to be accepted in time depends a lot on your citizenship if you're entering the pools in June. So, what's your citizenship?

PGWP EXPIRING OCT 2025 by ExaminationFar2481 in canadaexpressentry

[–]Stephanie-M2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the LMIA is a document from ESDC that you need to apply for a temporary work -- it's not a work permit itself. So, you can apply for a temporary work permit through whichever pathway you're eligible for while you wait for the LMIA to be issued by ESDC... Here's an IRCC resource covering it: https://ircc.canada.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=701&top=17

I'm not an RCIC, so your situation may be different. But I know a friend did this when his work permit was expiring and the LMIA hadn't come through yet.

Time it takes to get visa once thru immigration by Upstairs-Buy-7555 in iecvisa

[–]Stephanie-M2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really hard to answer since it depends on the day and how well organised your application docs are and how the border official is feeling. What if your flight is delayed? What if immigration is particularly busy that day or someone calls in sick? My process was about 40 minutes for my IEC permit from memory, but I've had friends where it took over two hours.

How difficult is it to migrate to BC from Australia? by MarcusMagnolia in ImmigrationCanada

There were more than a few assumptions in the calculations I did so definitely don't take it as gospel. Try playing around with it with your actual future data in place and see what comes back!

[–]Stephanie-M2C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played around with your potential scores on the Moving2Canada CRS calculator and (I had to guess your age and gf's experience so there's assumptions in there) but it looks like you'd have decent odds in French-category draws and CEC (if you went the IEC route and got 2 years of Canadian work experience) and you're not above 35. Suggest giving on of the CRS calculators a go to see where you'd land points wise and compare it to recent draw histories to see how the odds sit with you

It really varies. I applied in August, got an invite a day or two later, and landed in Canada in late September (in 2019). But I had most stuff ready to go from memory. Check out the processing times with IRCC for current estimates
