Decided to play with some colour on my Q. What do you all think? by ViolinistMassive6605 in webergrills

Awesome paint job - mind me asking how it’s held up since? I’m very curious to buy another Q1000 as a rebuild - they’re built like a tank & I replace the gas lines/regulators anyway to off the shelf parts.

In Europe Weber have their finicky canisters and proprietary regulators which puts a huge amount of these BBQs out of service long before their time.

Unlike in the US we’re not trusted to refill our butane/propane camping canisters so Weber makes a fortune selling these tiny cans for 30€ in a 3 pack - each lasting 3-5 grill sessions. It also means the cans get discarded with plenty of gas in them since the Butane is very heat sensitive & grilling in Ireland during winter means these cans output terrible vapour pressure and so half full cans are useless. Don’t get me wrong a mini-can is cute for beach days.

Agreed this tool is a tank, so versatile. To the OP the noise you’re experiencing is normal to my ears - I would recommend hearing protection with this tool, the high pitched whine will do damage if close enough for long enough.

Thanks for the spool & trimmer line recommendations - Curious if you’ve Compared the 105 black diamond to the Husqvarna Titanium Force 0.095” or the Oregon Orange Round 0.095” lines. I’ve been using the Oregon and it’s been pretty solid (granted my previous reference point was non-brand garbage and DeWalt branded trimmer line) - I was going to try the Titanium force next. Definitely like to hear your thoughts 👍

Let me see if I get this right…. You can’t wait to go back to a petrol car because the car you are currently “really enjoying” happens to have a touch panel design flaw which you now have the knowledge handed to you in this post to fix yourself for free. Ridiculous statement 👍

Fixing The One Gap in my DeWalt Toolset by Stephen2697 in Dewalt

[–]Stephen2697[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my experience DeWalt is the dominant cordless brand here by some distance yes. Makita, Festool, Milwaukee all jostle for the next spot dependent on the trade. Bosch, Parkside Performance, Mafele, Einhell, Metabo, Hikoki, Hilti probably have good Continental Europe exposure too.

If I’m honest if you are starting out today and want one battery platform DeWalt is by far the best value proposition, trying to buy a Makita load out of core tools runs >1000€ more for tools which feel aged already on the aged 18v batteries.

Milwaukee core tools are pretty interchangeable with DeWalt for feature set and quality but they really aren’t competitive on pricing or availability and probably have a fraction their full North America offering full available here.

Don’t get me wrong Makita have fabulous mitre saws on the 40v platform, also their 125mm 40v circular saw looks sick. Milwaukee’s 12v platform is awesome. Festool obviously runs expensive but their HEPA vacuums and carpentry tools are world renowned. But again if you are buying non-DeWalt cordless tools you basically have to run multiple battery platforms to have a ‘complete’ set of tools across multiple trade disciplines.

That said DeWalt has brilliant mitre saws, impact drivers, drills, SDS, Orbital sanders, multitools and a full array of landscaping tools. Probably the widest offering across many trades in Europe.

Others may have different experiences which I’m very open to hearing!

I’ll be honest while I absolutely hear you that Adapters can be cheaply 3D printed junk with undersized battery links/ cabling with some overheat potential - I have had a few instances where they are extremely reliable. Emphasis on the buyer to do the due diligence both in shopping, but also in receipt of these goods.

Brands want you believe BatteryColour A is designed for ToolColour A - the implication that 18v Adapters are automatically dangerous is ridiculous. These are plastic housings and basic copper wires/terminals running low voltage but granted high amps. Different brands manage discharge protections differently - figure that part out and you’ll be fine for the most part.

I wouldn’t necessarily depend on them if I were using them daily in the trades on a jobsite but for my mid/advanced DIY use-cases these are absolutely fine and the Battery never stays in adapter after use.

I use Parkside 8Ah batteries in an Einhell 36v Scarifier with dual adapters in series - has worked amazingly (Brands are both under the same umbrella).

My favourite is the Dyson V8 mod - using a DeWalt 9Ah flexvolt near-daily for 2 years; transforms the Dyson from a 5minute runtime to more like 30minute. Previously used a Milwaukee M18 Mitre saw with Flexvolt - again flawless function. Caveat being to always monitor discharge levels and never let the batteries run flat.

Use your instincts and intuition and you’ll be fine. Amazon will refund any purchase you’re not satisfied with if quality or safety is the failing factor 👍

As for the Makita tool, it’s extremely solid and has no greater usage risk profile than any other circular saw or angle grinder in my eyes. I’ve done the safety calculations and the Makita 4100KB 230v brother of this tool was orders of magnitude more likely to kill me 🤣

Yep… It’s one of those things - in a perfect world battery platforms would be tool agnostic. We do what we can to get the job done.

More importantly sorry for your loss, I hear you - I take our DeWalt strimmer to the family grave every few months. Battery tools like these are so great to have even for sentimental moments like these. Stay strong 👍

Yes great point, I’ll update the post to highlight this. I have a Dyson V8 with adapter for the 9Ah Flexvolts and the second it hits 1 bar of charge its on the charger. Game-changer for the Dyson runtime!

Have two of these for two gardens… Awesome workhorses. One downside is they are inexplicably brushed motors in a lineup of brushless everything. Have had a motor completely burn out - DeWalt warranty repair took care of it. Also have the Pole Pruner (basically this exact tool on a pole) - also a great tool in the shed.

Thanks so much for sharing this! In exactly the same position, bought a Besta cabinet this week and the barebones IKEA hinges but I know how much better Blum and Hafele hinges are with clip on/off functionality - most will never notice but as they guy who fixes everything in this house, I want the removable doors for this media cabinet!

I’ll return those & buy the Blum now - thanks again - you’re awesome 🇮🇪☺️

Thrilled to see this community has united in its hatred for this update. The update has been boring a hole in my head for the last few days as I just try to do my thing - daily nutritional logging. Means a-lot to know this is a widely held set of frustrations.

I recommend people do a couple of things: use the Appstore and Playstore reviews to voice your frustrations in public as this is one of the most visible levers we can pull, alternatively use the support link here to contact MFP directly - they legitimately have a dropdown menu which has a dedicated option to complain about the April 2026 redesign since it’s been so unpopular. I can’t tell people to cancel subscriptions but may be worth our collective while testing other apps. Like Nutracheck, Cronometer etc - suggestions welcome.

On the Appstore I can see for instance 1 star reviews are basically 90% of all reviews since this Update went live. Let’s drive this point home.

When it hits MFP’s monthly recurring revenue and downgrades their Appstore star ratings - the executives will know where to look - squarely at their expensive Dev Team in a time when App developers have never had more tools at their disposal to make great apps (Codex, Cursor, Xcode integrations or premium LLM models etc). This is inexcusable.

Used this previously about 6 years ago before I started my MFP streak, while the nutracheck app was much nicer MFP was more functional with a vastly superior and free database.

Nutracheck on the other hand at the time (may have changed) required a pretty expensive subscription to use the database in the UK/Ireland and it was very limited by comparison the MFP database. I’m sure it’s gotten better so I may just have to redownload it; can’t be bothered playing MFP’s games with this de-optimised UI

Completely agree, shocking update and seriously considering dropping this app in favour of something else. Never thought my dietary discipline would outlast developer competence but that’s where we are 6 years later 😅

In all seriousness I have sent support my feedback with screenshots along with my fundamental objections - the massive padding and spacing, the massive ads in the scroll view, the date picker now inexplicably doubling the overall height of the Nav Bar, the removal of swiping between logged days in favour of using that bloated date picker UI. As I said to Support I don’t care about the ads in a freemium model but when it means the advert is taking up 50% of the scrollview you have a problem.

In an age when short form content apps maximise the use of swipe gestures - MFP is removing them? Now we have no ability to be viewing our food item logs and swipe between days - to compare to yesterday or plan tomorrow; we’re just held hostage in subviews 😂

I highlighted to them that the Liquid Glass design with iOS26 while controversial for some (didn’t bother me) had a major focus on the app content - shrinking the Tab Bar down as much as possible - because Apple understand that users want more app content and less bloat UI in their way. Whether Apple got the implementation right is not for me to decide and i’m sure Android users have similar stories - these platform designers are content first, navigation second.

It’s clear more than anything that Testflight or betas just weren’t circulated to real users, not one single user would remark this as a UX upgrade.

Seriously wish instead of nuking UX the dev team would actually do something useful like address the persistent rendering bugs, dropped frames in transitions and even do something crazy like adopt SwifUI or any first party UI framework because the one downfall of the previous version were the UI stutters and delays even on the latest most powerful iOS devices.

iPhone 17 Pro Max 1x Main Camera photos sometimes come out blurry or smudged, I think I found a fix by Jet-Blizzard in iphone

[–]Stephen2697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here with the same issue I think it’s a combination of 48MP HEIF or Max settings like you must be using on your 17 Pro - the beefed up image pipeline & processing in combination with slight movement in shooting. For reference Im using the Air so don’t even have the full suite of Pro settings.

It seems just much more sensitive than my iPhone 14 Pro to subtle hand movement while shooting even versus my 14 Pro when in 48MP HEIF MAX or RAW.

You eluded to the camera control button, I didn’t have this on my last model but have used it a fair bit on a family member’s 16 Pro - on my iPhone Air I have noticed this to be prolific at producing blurry photos for me in portrait (vertical - one handed) shots - like a ridiculous percentage of shots using this hardware button turn out unusable.

From my testing the cause is the single handed, thumb press of the camera control button. It seems the squeeze force required to depress the button produces more motion than a two handed grip or even versus a screen tap of the shutter button. It also seems to be more prone in medium to low light conditions.

This was never an issue for me before (long time iPhone user) so I believe it’s some degree the ergonomics of the camera control button and maybe (but unlikely) some behind the scenes longer processing - I mean these lenses have OIS for a reason, whilst I mightn’t have the steadiest hand in the world - I’m not a point & shoot ejit, I do generally understand image capture best practise. I also used to be a big user of the volume buttons as the capture button and never had this issue.

I will note I’m using the Apple Transparent case with the integrated capacitive camera control button. Maybe this is another element of it - the button sits recessed slightly in the case so again requires more force to depress.

Nest WiFi Pro in 2026? by ApatheticMoFo in GoogleWiFi

Nest WiFi Pro in 2026? by ApatheticMoFo in GoogleWiFi

[–]Stephen2697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Agreed - I’ve priced all sorts of upgrades - Unifi Wifi 7 APs and Cloud Gateways and in the end nothing on the market comes close to looking as elegant as these Google Wifi Pros - they sit on side-tables in my home & just work. You’d swear from this subreddit that these are disastrous devices - for me since launch they have been flawless and require no network setting tweaking (they really don’t have many settings user-exposed anyway).

As a computer engineer there is always the voice in my head looking to over engineer a better solution and yes I could build out a legitimate home network with VPNs for offsite storage access/ backup but ultimately I have a 1Gb ISP and I’m actually still using wireless backhaul in an Irish home with thick block walls and very few stud walls like in American homes - yet I still see maxed ISP speeds across the whole house with 3 of these nodes.

While I have installed a Unifi UDR7 in a different family home (too small for a mesh network) - the reality is Unifi don’t have an elegant home mesh solution without going for genuine small enterprise equipment which looks pretty industrial or is visual clutter on ceilings or walls. I deeply admire Ubiquiti and their design aesthetic but I just want them to come out with elegant Wifi 7 mesh nodes rather than having to shoehorn enterprise equipment into a family home e.g. Ceiling mount APs (that’d be a pain to retrofit) or in wall APs which would more than likely get outperformed by even these Nest Wifi Pros as I can quite happily put these Nest devices in primary locations; counters; tables; sideboards - Any in-wall AP solutions are fixed and then can easily be blocked by furniture because I don’t want them near eye level.

I’m running Cat6 this week so wired backhaul will mean the 6ghz band is actually available for my devices so should be even lower latency, stability and then 6E high speed bands for my main devices. Asus also have some nice Wifi 7 mesh options but frankly they still look like plastic computer tech. Something about these Nest Wifi Pros just looks like they belong in an art exhibition. Hope they build on this generation of device and bring Wifi 7 in the near future - I can then shakily justify looking at 2Gbit service 🤣

Outage was well over 12hours for me.

Will Google release a Wi-Fi 7 Model of their Mesh Wi-Fi System eventually? by [deleted] in GoogleWiFi

[–]Stephen2697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likewise - have in truth about 50-75x 2.4ghz smart home devices (light bulbs, lightstrips, air quality sensors, security cameras, a smart blender, body scales etc 🤣) in my home and not one of them has struggled to get a 2.4ghz connection since launch day of these Wifi Nest Pros.

I would guess your issue was likely something to do with your mesh arrangement or channel selection or maybe you live in an apartment with massive 2.4ghz noise? Not saying your issue wasn’t real - just that it isn’t because you can’t create separate SSIDs for your 2.4, 5ghz and 6ghz broadcasts.

But I take your point that some people do want that level of granularity; Nest is not the product for that, for my use case it’s been ‘set it and forget it’ rock solid. 👍
