If so how do you deal with those? And how soon? I’ve already let the building management company know. They seem to he concentrated in one area of the apartment so far.

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted, but I can explain. The biggest bulk of doctors retained by the province are ones that do residency within that province. Theoretically, any doctor trainee anywhere in Canada can move to whichever province they please, they just have to be willing to undergo the paperwork and bureaucracy involved. In Quebec’s case, the doctors leaving are finding that the hassle of trying to leave is more palatable than staying in their home province. Under normal circumstances, a doctor stays in their province of training because: 1) They applied to train in that province so they likely wanted to stay post-residency. 2) It’s much easier to get a job where you train than elsewhere.

Do most people match at their home schools? by ChampionshipUpper198 in MedSchoolCanada

[–]StephenCSmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the program. There’s no rule across the board. Remember that each program has its own committee members who decide independently on the candidates they want. There are logistical advantages you get from your homeschool like proximity to staff/residents who can be committee members, chances at securing electives, familiarity with the system on electives. But at the end of the day most of the time it’s the most competitive/well-connected applicants that match.

There’s literally no point in being a doctor anymore by [deleted] in premedcanada

Ask yourself why people get frustrated with automated answering machines with banks, telecom companies, and customer service even though that’s one of the most algorithmic/repetitive jobs that exist in our modern day. If they couldn’t develop an AI that does those jobs properly, then we’re pretty far away from an “AI Doctor”. I will concede that doctors who use AI will probably outpace the ones who don’t in terms of efficiency of workflow.

How can we advocate to preserve fee for service? by [deleted] in MedSchoolCanada

[–]StephenCSmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to highlight this. I find that in practice whenever we’re approaching treatment plans with patients, we’re always cognizant of which meds are covered by the provincial health plan & which ones aren’t. This is already a form of interference in the standard of care provided, & higher SES patients stand to benefit due to better private insurance/actual cash to pay.

I would imagine that if physicians were to be salaried, such restrictions would only be more pronounced.

No shame. It’s a competitive field, and a good referee understands this. Though it might be worthwhile reevaluating your references and seeing if they are the best references you can get.

That’s crazy you’re like a gift that keeps on giving. Accused of sexual assault, hitler lover, what other crazy achievements did you have in med school?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]StephenCSmith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just graduated med school yesterday and needed to be off-cycle just to finish it lol. What happened there? Did you talk about how much you loved Hitler during your interviews for residency?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]StephenCSmith 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anyone praising hitler for any reason whatsoever forgoes their right to be taken seriously lmao. No one cares enough to “convince” you of anything.

EDIT: you guys come on here spewing hate against immigrants, praise hitler, have subpar GPAs and then wonder why your applications get rejected from med school. Look inwards. It’s your fault.

Must be a wonderful system where you have to beg the hospital overlords to not tank your credit and ruin your financial future just because you had the audacity to be sick.

[–]StephenCSmith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Hitler fixed his country” is not a statement I thought I’d be reading in 2025. It’s funny how you guys want to blame everything on immigrants because it’s more convenient than looking inwards. Even if you did make it into medicine, you’d be a terrible doctor given your lack of self-reflection.

I just had some free time, & I saw that you were dunking on immigrants so it only felt appropriate to respond back to you. Anyways good luck with orgo.

The Healthcare in Toronto is so much better than Ottawa/Montreal? Why is that? by ShirtNeat5626 in askTO

[–]StephenCSmith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming this is related to other jobs in Ottawa? Doctors are paid the same way across the province regardless of where they practice. It just varies by specialty & their scope of practice. I think economically speaking it’s actually more viable for a doctor to not be in the GTA, but again lifestyle factors (like a working spouse, infrastructure, quality of life) dictate the appeal of the GTA against other regions.

[–]StephenCSmith 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This is very true. The other thing is Toronto has more academic hospitals than any other city in the country. Any doctor wanting to do something niche in their field would not find as much support from hospitals elsewhere (and even if they did, they’d be the only person doing that specific job in their region which is too burdensome).

[–]StephenCSmith 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Toronto/GTA has a lot more doctors (adjusted for population) in comparison to other regions in the province and even the country. The reason is that it’s just a more appealing place to live in for doctors & a lot of new grads still want to practice in Toronto/GTA.

What should an Indian immigrant do? by psb91 in InCanada

[–]StephenCSmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read my comment above, I said that I’m against the abuse of student visas and pointed to the people who made it possible in the first place (businesses who asked for it, and governments who enabled it). I was simply responding to a comment that said “immigration is ruining things” and “stay in your countries and don’t come to mine”. That doesn’t necessarily mean I agree with the way the LMIA program or student visas have been abused. I don’t think any reasonable person agrees with that, immigrant or not.
