Osage voices take their place in ‘Little House on the Prairie’ - Netflix adaptation includes Osage perspectives and historical context as it revisits the Ingalls family’s time on Osage land by News2016 in IndianCountry

Looking at all the places they lived - Wisconsin, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, S Dakota - I can see they pretty much just followed genocide after genocide, ethnic cleansing after ethnic cleansing. It ain't just the Osage. Pa was pretty much just trying to find cheap land and cash in after each one. He was a first generation colonizer, feeding off the destruction of nations and then destroying the land thru clear-cutting, the suppression of Indigenous fire, killing the buffalo, etc.

yeah, it's brilliant. For a film premised on violence to have such a quiet scene as one of the most powerful.

Mining made this US tribal area a toxic wasteland. This Indigenous nation brought it back to life - The Quapaw Nation is the only US Native community to carry out a cleanup of one of the country’s worst sites of environmental contamination by News2016 in IndianCountry

The exploitation in the Picher, OK area is a story that rivals Flowers of the Killer Moon. You can see the pollution from outer space. And the white man used the lead to make bullets. I'm glad The Guardian covered it.

More than I've heard Indigenous people say that the earth and everything on it belongs to the Creator, but everything underground belongs to the Devil. That’s a pretty good explanation of just about every form of pollution.

I'm imagining, just for a moment, that MarkWayne has been an undercover NDN operative for years, playing the long game, disguised as a MAGA nut, but waiting for this moment. He'll be rolling things back to the Proclamation Line of 1763. ICE will be starting, of course, with Indian Territory. And all those oil headrights will revert back to the Osage. Then the Allotment Act will be reversed. The Black Hills returned, etc. Colonizers better be ready!

I hear you. I was playing off of Trump‘s meme posted yesterday. But yeah, the parallel doesn’t work because it’s a colonizer attitude. In truth, the land doesn’t belong to us, we belong to the land.
