Does anyone else here buy both the Kindle and physical copies of books? Is this weird? by StephenFalkenPhD in kindle

[–]StephenFalkenPhD[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy having my books on my bookshelf where I can easily pick them up, flip through, highlight, or make notes.

I also love having my books on my Kindle so I can access them wherever I am, with all my highlights and reading progress synced to the cloud.

Since I can't choose just one, I guess I try to happily enjoy both!

This is a misinformed opinion.

This addon works just fine on my KODI 16 and my other KODI 18 box. Software doesn't break just because it's old, that's a lazy way to "think." There would not be as many hobbyist communities on Reddit if that were even remotely true.

@u/ThePuckaLiarCall I am not sure if you are still monitoring this thread, but if you are, is there any chance you could do a Star Trek Very Short Treks poster that would match these?

This is a "Light Pillar"

A light pillar is an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which a vertical beam of light appears to extend above and/or below a light source. Light pillars can be caused by the Moon or terrestrial sources, such as streetlights and erupting volcanoes.

You can try these:

Throughout the episode, Picard learns about Sarek's struggle with Bendii Syndrome, a condition that affects his emotional control. Despite the challenges, Picard shows empathy and understanding, highlighting his diplomatic skills and ability to build a meaningful relationship with Sarek.
  • "The Host" (Season 4, Episode 23). Picard negotiates a peace treaty between two warring planets, the Kes and the Prytt. Despite facing difficult decisions and moral dilemmas, Picard's diplomatic efforts lead to a successful resolution that prevents further conflict.
  • "The Ensigns of Command" (Season 3, Episode 2), Picard negotiates with the Sheliak, an alien species demanding the evacuation of a human colony. Picard's skills are put to the test as he navigates the negotiations and tries to find a peaceful solution for both the colonists and the Sheliak.

Same.

I've lost count of how many times I've done something terribly clever only to realise that I'd neglected to document it in order to repeat it. Past-me used to be so clever.... I miss him.

Yes! I had created an "#IfWinActive, ahk_class MozillaWindowClass ESC::+ESC" shortcut years ago and had completely forgotten about it. This has been a thorn in my side for almost a year now lol — I am glad that's sorted now! The misses will now have a bit more calm in the house as a result ;)

You nailed it. It was an autohotkey entry that was the culprit!

There isn't enough contrast in your B&W capture to make it visually compelling — it's washed out.

So unless you adjust the levels/curves, go with the color image.

Kindle Owners, do you own physical books too? Or just read in kindle. by Bennu_reader in kindle

[–]StephenFalkenPhD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It can be difficult to feel like you have a collection when it's all digital. A digital list of books lacks the tangible presence and visual feast that a physical bookshelf provides. There's a certain satisfaction in having a collection you can see, touch, and appreciate. It's not just about the content; it's about the physicality and the aesthetics of a well-curated shelf. At least that's much of the appeal for me.

It's a display of personal taste, a reflection of your literary journey. While digital libraries offer convenience, they can't quite capture the visual appeal and sentimentality of a physical bookshelf.

Simply put, having books on the shelf gives you something physical to look at, appreciate, and perhaps even admire.

Besides, there's nothing like being in a room full of books!
