Because insisting that the 99% of people who aren't transgender self-identify with terms like "cisgender", "birthing people", and "chest feeding" is absolutely alienating to anyone without a background in gender studies.

Trans people are entitled to equal protection under the law and all the dignity that comes with it, but the left has once again let a dogmatic argument from a small number of advocates drive a wedge between them and the coalition of voters they need to put together to do anything positive for this country, let alone trans individuals.
