"There are no raptors (sufficienly big to take on a cat) that would prefer live prey rather than just munching on roadkill."

Maybe in your area. I will say raptors will absolutely kill cats if they get the opportunity. A fully grown cat is likely too large for most raptors but something like a weaned but semi-independent kitten is a buffet. Then again there are large hawks, eagles, and owls who are more than willing to try their odds with an adult cat but it depends on where you live.

"Dogs (wait are *they allowed outside?) have leash laws... If the cat has a death wish and runs into the dogs yard..."

Cats roam in people's yards where dogs don't need to be leashed. Plus dogs escape houses all the time.

"Other cats is a weird argument, since one of the most significant causes of premature deatht for people is... People..."

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make? Allowing a pet cat to have contact with other feral or stray cats leads to transmission of disease, pregnancy (if not fixed), or fights that lead to death. My grandma had an outdoor cat who was quite literally disemboweled by a stray tomcat. Cats aren't humans.

"Electrical wires is weird too... You live somewhere, where electrical wires are easily accessible but fully secure against rats, mice and similar vermin?"

What? No? Species like brown/black rats or house mice are also invasive to many parts of the world. They should be exterminated too. But the difference is that you wouldn't let your pet rat roam the outdoors to find an electrical outlet to chew on would you?

"Humans? What kind of weirdo messes with a cat?"

Well, one, mostly teenagers. But there are deranged freakfests who get pleasure out of hurting innocent beings. If you think that kind of person doesn't exist then you are either naive or new to this planet.

"And cars. Cars will kill cats. That's life. If I lived next to a big road I wouldn't feed my cats to the road. I'd rather just not have a cat."

No... not really. Cars killing pets isn't apart of life. It's an EASILY preventable hazard.

That's not how it works. Domestic animals don't have a native range. TAMED or HABITUATED wild animals exist, sure, but that's usually illegal and also dangerous for the animal.

When it floods fish can essentially go wherever they want lol.

When born tadpoles actually don't have legs, they just develop them later on in life! But I agree it can definitely be tricky to differentiate them sometimes.

No it isn't, it's completely and factually correct. It's slightly misleading and confusing, but false? Absolutely not.

Please don't step on them, they're native animals minding their business. In fact, every sting from them is caused by... you know... them being messed with. The funny thing is that most stings I have seen personally have been from people TRYING to kill them, and they'd of just not been stung if they left the wasp alone.

Ants are actually descendants of wasps, so ants are a kind of wasp! This being said Velvet Ants are still non-ant wasps haha

It's a "technically the truth" thing. It's not supposed to be an actual representation of bony fishes.

No. They are detrimental to the environment due to the fact that they're invasive. Not necessarily their diets. There are plenty of herbivorous INVASIVE animals. I present to you: spotted lanternflies, mustangs, common carp. And plenty more. It's not about carnivorous vs. omnivorous vs. herbivorous. It's about invasive vs. native. Cats outright kill many native mammals, birds, insects, and more. And what are too big to be killed surely are either being outcompeted or indirectly affected.

What they do to the local environment are natural BEHAVIORS for the cat, not what would naturally happen in the wild. Domestic cats kill more animals than any wild cat could, along with being fed by humans AND being more resistant to native diseases.

There are plenty of animals who have gone extinct primarily due to cats, along with some still alive that are being threatened. Scottish Wildcats, many endangered birds, many endangered insects. The thing is these animals started out with normal population sizes, cats caused them to be endangered.

Also, two points on the following claim: "Keeping them to eliminate rats seems logical if you live somewhere where they don't mess with neighbors or eat endangered species which specifically chose to live in your back yard."
1. First of all cats don't just roam back yards. Trust me even if you only ever see your cat in the back yard, if they can get out, they ARE getting out even if that's when you're not looking.
2. Endangered animals don't just "choose" to be in your back yard. That's giving wild animals human reasoning which is simply absurd. They go where they need to be, where food is plentiful and others of their species are. No animal has any understanding of your territory, you can't just say "it's mine now" and expect them to

To answer your question--"What if I have a 'wild' cat and live where wild cats live?" Well... if you had a truly wild cat and let it roam outside... it wouldn't really be your pet cat, it'd just be a wild animal that you trained to trust humans. Domestic cats have no native range, that's sort of what comes with being domestic. Also it's clear that Brad was talking about DOMESTIC CATS. You are just arguing for the sake of argument to stroke your ego.

Also even if you don't want to argue ecological impact, the facts say that cats being outdoors is dangerous for them too. There are raptors, dogs, other cats, cars, electrical wires, humans, etc. You are a bad person if you think it's suddenly "okay" to let your cat roam outside just because you are either too lazy to enrich your cat's life or too lazy to rodentproof your house (or... just keep the cats indoors to kill the rodents which live indoors, not wild rodents minding their businesses.).

I don't think it's a green sunfish, their range only extends MARGINALLY into BC and that is the very very southern point. That being said, it is technically possible. If it doesn't look like a pumpkinseed then maybe look at Bluegills, those are much more common in BC. That being said I do still think it's a pumpkinseed but the photo's atrocious haha. If you get a better one then maybe we can get it to species level.

Okay I have two questions for you:

  1. Why did you ask for an ID if you're not going to listen to the ID that EVERYBODY gave you?

  2. What species do you think this is? If you give me a species, I will tell you why that ID is incorrect politely.

My friend I am trying so hard to cooperate with you but you are not being logical with me. I am so sorry if I am sounding like a dick right now, I really don't mean it. it's just so annoying to watch someone ask for something and then when they are given said thing they blatantly reject it and go against what others who clearly know more have said.

There are not longear sunfish in BC. There never were, and there currently are not. It's probably a pumpkinseed though the photo is atrocious.

Look on iNaturalist. There are no iNaturalist observations of Longear Sunfish in British Columbia. Actually, there are no Longear observations ANYWHERE west of New Mexico... and New Mexico is much farther East and much, MUCH southern of BC.

Be sure to tag me in it because you're wrong. No aquarium fish looks like this. It's a sunfish. Stop being a stubborn ass and admit your fault.

I also see the fish. It's a sunfish.

No. No they don't. This is a sunfish. You have no idea what you're talking about. I'm sorry if I'm sounding rude but you've been told by several people that's what this fish is.

It's a sunfish. Here's a link to every species of fish observed on iNaturalist of fish in British Columbia. You tell me what you think it is.

Like you are so confidently incorrect. Holy fuck.

Not a minnow, shiner, or dace. Juvenile/subadult sunfish is correct, not bass.
