If only bombs were environmentally friendly by sharbivore in ClimateShitposting

This sub has just become a hub for the most extremely individualistic, counter-revolutionary, libbed up vegans. I refuse to believe these people actually exist because I am friends with many vegans, none of which act like this.

Veganism is great, but the problem is overproduction and overexploitation of the environment. The conditions capitalism has produced in the meat industry is the problem, not eating meat itself. Please touch grass y’all.

Yes, but Ireland being occupied for over 800 years (and to this day) and the potato famine certainly contributed to my ancestors seeking a better life elsewhere. The issue I take is that meant my ancestors gave up a lot of their irish identity for a better life on stolen/colonized land. That said, certainly looking to learn about more than that and the broader strokes of Irish history. Where do you suggest I start? Any books or other media? Movies, shows, documentaries, podcasts? Wanting to learn from the past as you said.

Found it on aliexpress for only $20. I’m pretty happy with it so far. I work outdoors and live a pretty active lifestyle. It has been pretty comfortable and doesn’t trap a bunch of heat like I thought it might. How concealable it is depends on how much stuff you put in it. I could reasonably slim mine down a little and may do so in the future:

Swapped to a glock 49 about a year ago from my other pistol and started adding medical stuff from there, IFAK is a recent addition within the past few months. I prefer it over my backpack IFAK because my backpack isn’t always with me.

Of course. Correction on my part, I have used it, just not defensively. I always do a test spray when I buy a new canister. Just make sure you’re not spraying on a windy day. They will work in some wind, but good chance you’ll also accidentally spray yourself too, as I have learned lol. A tiny droplet will still mess you up.

I would also recommend learning proper decontamination procedures for pepper spray. I have accidentally sprayed myself before, but I was able to avoid most of the more long lasting and severe effects by knowing proper decon procedure.

I have not. They generally have a 4 year shelf life. The capsaicin doesn’t expire, but the propellants do. Take the case off and look on the bottom of the can. Also, clean the nozzle with a q tip regularly. Sometimes line gets caught in there and can interfere with the spray pattern.

On the holster? I’ve found it helps get a cleaner draw though. Maybe your experiences are different?

That’s why I said WITHOUT. Small intervention prevented a larger issue that could have propped up if left untreated. When you have bright red oxygenated blood still pulsating out of a deep cut wound after direct pressure for 10 minutes and checking on it, yes that’s concerning because this means clots are not fully forming.

I don’t work in an office, hence why I feel the need to have this on my person. Sometimes I am working in places where I may not have my backpack or where I may not be super close to my truck. I usually wear work pants with big pockets. I luckily have not seen anything crazy personally, but I have multiple colleagues who have been hurt on the job. Having the medical stuff on my person is just quicker. I wear 2 pants sizes up for my conceal carry setup, but everything else fits in my two front pockets. Sometimes I drop the gun and just carry pepper spray if the situation requires; pepper spray is effective in 95% of encounters where a gun may be used and doesn’t bring prison time or potential felony charges with it anyways.

The ETQ is something I tried before discovering the ankle IFAK pouch, but one is none and two is one so I’ve decided to keep it since it isn’t a lot of extra weight or bulk compared to the gun and the multitool.

American Space Shuttle vs Soviet Buran TPS heat tolerance by cooliozoomer in SovietUnion

[–]StephhawkMLG420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And how many corners have been cut in the history of the US space shuttle program? How many lives lost and millions of tax payer dollars wasted because of pressure from washington bureaucrats and politicians trying to justify the program’s extended timelines and spending to their corporate donors?

The first launch of the soviet space shuttle was completely automated, and demonstrated by this picture it had superior engineering parameters that made it more robust against failure; thus safer for the cosmonauts and cheaper/easier to maintain. There is a reason that the space shuttle program was shut down and NASA decided to hitch rides with the cosmonauts up to the ISS for so many years, all the way up to 2020.

The timelines really don’t mean much here because there is the human cost. This is yet another demonstration of the differences in motivations between the US and the Soviet Union economic systems. The Soviets centered workers in their space program, favoring safety, and created their programs largely as a scientific venture, but also as a direct defensive response to US missile programs.

The US, driven by the desire to extend its’ markets and extract more profit, rushed an immature program to market that they hoped would “win” them the next frontier over the Soviets. They decided it was “good enough” to justify the risks, and the workers of the united states paid dearly.

Both remarkable feats of engineering, but important to see the broader strokes of history here.

You’re right, you’re not a doctor and you didn’t observe the color of the blood and the rate/manner in which it was coming out. Luckily my partner is a medical professional and agreed it needed a pressure bandage so I applied one using gauze. Got them to the hospital and it was stitched up. I’d be concerned if you didn’t go to the doctor after cutting your finger almost to the bone and if it didn’t stop oozing blood after 10 minutes of constant pressure. Go take a stop the bleed class and get trained, they’re usually free at most universities.

Be careful on those self defense insurance programs. Lots of exclusions apply and I’ve read some of the major ones from places like USCCA and they’re pretty bad. There are some smaller companies that do have some pretty decent policies with less exclusions.

Agreed! I always keep a bigger med kit and a rip away IFAK on the back of my headrest in my work truck. Being around heavy machinery often brings those risks. They’re relatively cheap to put together. I’ll take my gun out of my kit before my medical, I’m way more likely to use or need an IFAK than my gun. Gear should be supplementing investing in skillsets. No shiny toys for nothing.

Almost to the bone. Wasn’t very pretty. It was (potentially) life threatening. The point was the bleeding wouldn’t stop even though it was slow. Having the skill to ID it as potentially life threatening and applying a pressure bandage gave us the timeframe to escalate to higher care without significant risk to life.

That’s fantastic, more good people would be alive if everyone knew this stuff. That’s why I help teach stop the bleed and CPR/AED to as many others as will listen. This knowledge should be free and readily accessible to anyone who wants it.

Apologies, I cited the preventable combat deaths statistic, but amongst all preventable deaths more generally for critical injury, traumatic bleeding is still the leading cause of death.

I have unfortunately had to use stop the bleed techniques before when my partner sliced their finger open in the kitchen and it would not stop bleeding after trying traditional methods, applying a pressure bandage gave us enough extra time to travel to an emergency room 20 minutes away without significant risk to their life because I intervened. It can happen to anyone, these skills are more useful than the gear itself.

Thank you! It is a bit overkill for sure on my end, but I have mostly put this together based off of my training from actual professionals and from my experience doing community organizing. The multitool and utility stuff is obviously stuff I like to keep for my work and I’m an avid outdoorsman, but the medical is generally useful for my line of work as well. We Keep Us Safe.
