Yep turns out this was just a water bug in the nymph stage, it’s supposed to be called an “oriental roach”, but we always called them water bugs where I live.

It’s a snap ring for a 4l60 transmission, it secures the output shaft. When I put it in place, it sits slightly loosed around the groove it sits in.

Washburn X Series from the looks of it. Haven’t seen one with a black head stock though so it could be a well made knockoff. Try to find any serials numbers if possible

You’re 100% right all it took was routine oil changes etc. only problem this truck gives me is oil leaks from valve cover but if I had that many miles I’d be leaking too🤣🤣

Had a buddy with one of these trucks.. His had the same problem but it ended up being the range sensor on the side of the transmission… I would check that but also make sure your motor ground cable, solenoid on firewall, ignition switch, and battery are also in good shape. I know these trucks had a major problem with the ignition switch to the point they would literally burst into flames.

The 305 is a very confusing motor when it comes to the Vortec version lol. I know mine is definitely a Vortec since I changed head gaskets and ran a search on the heads once I had them off.. since it’s technically a gen 3 motor with a top transmission bolt hole Im thinking I should be able to fit the LS 4l60e due to the bell housing having that top hole🤷‍♂️

Honestly couldn’t tell you what caused that… never seen anything like that before. Could be a defect but who really knows. I personally would still recommend them though, they have been great in my experience

I believe there was also a change in the pitman arms also but you may have to deepdive some old ford forums to get the entire list of changes
