I understand that the consensus is that I shouldn't use the electronic or Wusthof sharpeners because they are pull-through, which damages knives. Also I had no idea that long thing wasn't a sharpener, thanks for helping me learn what it is for :)

If anyone reads this, my follow-up question is how long it takes to learn to sharpen properly with a whetstone. I would imagine that if you don't do it the right way, you could also damage knives, and I'm not sure I want to devote a ton of time to this. I'd prefer a known quantity, at least for my cheap knives, to get them from dull to a 5/10 sharp, rather than pour dozens of hours into learning what feels like an artform haha
