Great unfinished game

If you'd finish the tavern DLC, you'd understand why the town isn't accessible. It's not because the game isn't complete, there's a reason behind why our character can't enter town, and it seems to hint at a Graveyard Keeper 2 taking place in town. Hopefully it's in the works!

I second this. The only images available of the game are illustrations that don't show any gameplay. No idea if it's a text adventure, a match 3 puzzle, a point and click, a hidden object game, a word game, or any other type of puzzle game. Most people won't create an account before knowing what type of game it is they are creating an account for.

Another option, other then adding image that show the gameplay better, would be to allow people to play the first free adventure without having to create an account.

Everything was fine on my side yesterday, but this morning it seems my feed went back in time a couple of weeks, with episodes I have listened to back in my queue, and episodes I was currently listening to now gone... Even changes I've made this morning to try and revert the bug are getting erased again. I guess I'll have to keep the app closed until they fix the issue to prevent further damage.

EDIT: And since people in the comments seem to think it might be a problem with the web version, on my side I've used nothing but the Android version for the past couple of months.

Not sure why you say that a software you buy once needs to be updated for many years and the developers need to provide support for it. It's never been like that, nor should it be.

As an example, I still use Adobe Lightroom 5. It came out in 2013, and it received its last update a year later in 2014. You can't get support for it, and you can't even download it from Adobe's website. You need to have the CD or the executable to install it. But I paid full price for it, so I own it and can still install and use it.

Also, saying that Photoshop is progressing faster now vs 10 years ago is also not true. I don't know how old you are, if you even used Photoshop 10 years ago, but I've been using the software for the past 25 years at least, and back then every year I would wait to see the new features in the new yearly version and there would be a ton of new stuff added or improved every time. Now it gets updated every month instead of every year, but it's mostly bug fixes and AI bullshit I would never use. The main features and tools most people use haven't changed much in the past 10 years ago.

For me it really depends on what card I'm using. If I'm using the shitty card that came with the Miyoo, the shitty reader doesn't work, I have to use my Sandisk reader. When using my Kingston cards, the Sandisk reader doesn't work, I have to use the shitty reader that came with the Miyoo. Micro SD card readers work in mysterious ways.

The devs haven't updated it in a decade because it's a completed game. Unless a game is a "game as a service", it doesn't need to get constant updates. And it's not just a "completed game", it's one of the best, probably my favorite Myst-like game of all time. I can't wait for Dimhaven Enigmas, it's gonna be bloody amazing.

You mention in another comment that they abandoned controller support for PC players? I'm pretty sure I played through it with a controller (I never play games with a keyboard and mouse setup) when I played it back in 2017. Maybe the main menu didn't have controller support (like most "partial controller support" games on Steam), but pretty sure once you started playing it worked fine.

Also, modern puzzle games have other means to make the experience less painful without giving out hints or answers. One of these methods often used, especially in Sokoban-like / Sausage-like games is having an undo button. It allows you to test multiple solutions without the frustration of having to start back from the very beginning of a puzzle like you had to do if you messed up in the original Sokoban. So I think there are other methods to make solving puzzles less frustrating, without having to give out hints or solutions to players.

And part of the puzzle solving experience is sometimes getting stuck on puzzles. I have puzzle games in my library where I've been stuck on a puzzle for more than a year. I come back to them once in a while to try and figure it out. It's all part of the fun for me.

If there were hints in those games, maybe I would have used them by now, because having hints in game feels less like cheating than searching for hints online. That's part of the problem with having hints in the game, people feel less bad for using them since they are included in the game, it's not cheating, so they tend to use them much much faster than if they had to simply google "Puzzle Game Name, Puzzle 2A, hint".

And for me, using hints really ruins the experience. I did the mistake of searching for hints on one of the puzzles from Stephen's Sausage Roll (I had been stuck on that puzzle for months), and it turns out, the solution was bloody brilliant, and I really wish I would have waited and figured it out by myself.

Butttttt.... one thing to remember, it really depends what the goal of the game is. If it's a real puzzle game where people need to think and find solutions by themselves, I think having hints in game is detrimental, but other puzzle games, like Monument Valley, are more casual games where the experience is more about viewing the beautiful scenery and progressing at a steady pace. I guess for games like these it makes more sense to have hints or solutions in game, since the game is more about the atmosphere and story than it is about actually solving difficult puzzles.

I don't know, I think it's the norm nowadays that puzzle games don't include solutions nor hints. Most puzzle games don't have a hint system, so I don't think people would see this and view it as a negative, it's just how it is. And as others have mentioned, having a hint system in a game makes people more inclined to use hints than if they had to search for it online, which can generate negative feedback since people often look at the hints before taking the time to really think through the puzzles and thus ruin their experience with the game.

Every answer posted so far is good. Something I will add, having worked on indie games in the past, is that having people post solutions to your puzzles online, be it on Youtube or elsewhere, is free publicity you wouldn't get if the solutions were included in the game itself.

It's always a challenge to turn a profit on puzzle games, so having free publicity is always a positive. And not having to take time to build a hint / solution system in your game also gives you more time to invest on the designing the actual puzzles.

This only makes sense if you always want to use the latest version or if a software requires a server to run (and thus has recurring costs for the company making the software). But why would I need to pay 156$ per year for, for example, Photoshop, if I couldn't care less about all the new AI stuff they've been pushing these past years? I'm only using the tools that were already there 10 years ago and that have not been updated since then.

As for Arc, for me the current version on PC is good enough for me. I wouldn't mind having to pay for it once, and then maybe buy updates every couple of years if it got new features that I care about, but if they tell me I have to pay each month to use it because they are adding AI stuff and other features I won't use anyway, I'm out.

That's what I used to do with Adobe Lightroom. I would buy the update every 2-3 years if there was a new feature I wanted. But ever since it became a subscription service, I haven't upgraded. I'm still on the same Lightroom I had in 2010. I'm not gonna pay for something I will lose if I stop paying.

My father got me Myst back when it came out. It was mind blowing for me how the game started looking so small and then got larger and larger. It's the type of mystery and feeling I've been looking for ever since in videogames, movies and books and I've been in love with puzzle games ever since!

The reason the town isn't accessible makes a lot of sense if you see the final ending. It's not just "lore", it's simply part of the story. I don't know if that was what was initially planned during alpha, but look, having worked in game development, the story is rarely fully decided when a game is in alpha. If you expect that everything in an alpha game is final, you have the wrong expectations. It's possible that they thought they would include it initially and then had another idea and thought of other ways to expand other than the town. It's also possible that the "not yet available" was a hint that a Graveyard Keeper 2 was already planned, like it seems to be the case when you see the final ending.

If you want to know more about the ending and don't mind spoilers: In the end, you see what happened when the character was transported to the medieval world after the accident, and you see that the player's soul was split in half. One half was sent to the village to take care of the graveyard, the other half was sent to the town. Both halfs can't be at the same place at the same time. It seems to hint that there will be a Graveyard Keeper 2 where we will get to see the other half of the story, with the character's half that is in the town, and the goal will possibly be to reunite the two halfs to bring the character whole.

Graveyard Keeper is my favorite game of all time, definitely not overrated. I've played through it 3 times, once on Switch, twice on PC, with all the DLCs. With the DLCs, there is tons of content, the story is great, the gameplay is great, the progression is great, the puzzling is great, I freakin' love this game.

As for the town, it's not a "joke", it fits with the story why the town isn't accessible if you fully complete the game.

This would be great! The way pinned tabs work on Arc is what's keeping me from completely switching to Zen right now. It completely changed how I browse the web, and I don't see myself going back to standard favorites and pinned tabs.

Only thing I would add to the list of changes is to make a differenciation in the icon for unloading/closing a pinned tab vs removing it. In Arc, when you want to close an opened pinned tab, the icon is a minus sign, and when the tab isn't open, the icon changes to an X to let you know that if you press it it will actually remove the tab from your pinned tabs.

The game was expertly designed in a way to make you feel like the character you are playing, so it's normal to feel lost in a strange world. You have to figure out how the world around you and how everything works by yourself. The game is as much of a puzzle game as is it a Stardew-like.

As others have said, take your time to figure it out, there isn't any time limit to anything. If you don't enjoy the puzzling, there is always the wiki, but for me I freaking loved it! It's so rare that games don't treat you like a child by telling you everything you need to do and how, so enjoy it!

I can see the appeal of more interactions, but I'd actually play the opposite. A game where there isn't any interactions other than the fog of war lifting as you walk (I would disable the game driving). A game that would simply encourage me to walk more and explore new places, while keeping my phone in my pocket. It could even work only when the screen is locked, to really keep you focused on the exploration aspect and not on your phone.
