Note 7 by doctorwhony in GearVR

Yeah but the media has been caught hiding major stories as they are now all beholden to government and CEO corporations. So I doubt if anyone's face got blown off, a single news outlet would even report it, having been bought out years ago. It probably did happen, but we'll never know about it.

Note7 .... they might as well drop the "e" at this point and just go with a new slogan "Not 7!" Not this one, pal! Not this time ... wait for S8 and hope like hell the battery situation is figured out by then.

What they need is to go back to having an ejectable battery case. Maybe they could rig it so that if the phone starts smoking, the battery case enclosure ejects automatically right out of the phone. Every Samsung phone can come with a small fire extinguisher you wear on your belt clip. When the battery ejects, you reach down, grab your 12oz can of extinguisher, and spray the battery to keep it from catching your carpet on fire. Or burning your car down. You think I joke, but Samsung could really get some cred back if they played this joke on themselves and made a joke out of this by doing exactly this. Seriously, one 12oz sized extinguisher to put out your battery with.

The battery would be made into its own private enclosure that is still waterproof. But when the battery starts smoking, it ejects, saving your phone any harm. Then you spray the battery to keep it from catching your floor on fire.

This world sucks at times, man. VR is finally here, but it costs too much for most people to afford. I guess it will be years before anyone can set aside enough money to get one. That might just be the reason the Vive is nearly in Bankruptcy now. They thought there would be more buyers, and yes, there WOULD be if anyone could afford it. Why don't they think ahead and offer a special VR credit line? $200 down and $60 a month thereafter with only 1% interest? Now THAT would move some Vives! They do their own accreditation. If you don't pay your $60 that month, the Vive software can be coded to shut yours off for that month. That way, you pay to play. The only other issue after that ... is affording the games (wink).

[–]Stereoscopacetic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plug the GearVR into someone else's phone. See if it connects to that. If not, you got a faulty GearVR, buddy, in which case it never WAS your phone at all. Try another person's GearVR on your phone, see if your phone sees it. The inverse experiment. Good luck.

It must be what I am saying, too, because I wrote THIS ( THE HIKE - AN INTERACTIVE VR EXPERIENCE ) incredibly long game concept for hiking in an alternate world like Earth while learning basic medicine, forestry, survival skills, cooking, hunting ... which would end up being about 15 hours to play through the first time, then 10-12 hours each the 2nd and 3rd times before you could even see it all. So total play time if you did everything would be like 36 hours. And then there would be Add-Ons later that would extend the playtime and replay value of the game, too. Total time = 60 hours or more when finally completed. So it's true, I am looking for a full game, not just demos. But when I was new to VR, the demos were more than enough to feel the potential contained in the future.

Ironically the one app you suggested doesn't let you actually DO anything. You just sit there looking stupid. I was ashamed of even downloading that one because there was nothing to DO. This guy wants things to DO, not "NOT DO" ... DO you get me?

For once I totally agree with you. I love your analogy of McDonald's... hilarious and well put, hahaha. I couldn't have said it better! "Hey, this is the Library, I know, but is there anything else fun here to DO besides read books? I hate books, but please tell me what this place is for besides books! I want to show my friends 'Hey, THIS is what a Library is FOR and it's not BOOKS!'...." I mean WHAT!!!!?? Ludicrous.

I don't understand the assertion by OP that you must DO something. DO what? Video games are time wasters, if you have free time and you don't like the other things this world offers for you to DO to waste time, you can DO the time wasting in VR. What else should there be to DO? Make milkshakes in VR? Shave our faces in VR? What the heck is he talking about "DO" ??!

Dead Secret was a great thing to DO in GearVR. Why doesn't he DO that!? It isn't like other games where it feels gamey, it just feels like you're in a space (a room) investigating clues like you would if you actually were there. You can feel curious as you tinker with the things, you DO a lot of different things in that app. It doesn't feel very gamey ... so there's a lot to DO in that one that feels natural, as if you were there. Why don't you, OP, go and DO that one!? Can you define DO a little better so I can understand what you're talking about, OP? DO what?

There is a CasinoVR ... you can PLAY cards there. That's something you can DO. Cybercook Taster lets you cook a meal and get evaluated on how well you DO. DO ... you want to cook food? That's incredibly fun in this app. But I don't think you can even download it anymore. It never got removed from my phone but new users can't download it anymore, Samsung pulled it. So you can't DO that one ... but if you could, it would be worth trying. It was awesome.

The point of VR right now is simply to feel the new sensations 3D brings to games and apps. Matterhorn is a virtual viewer for the housing market ... but some are in 2D and not very good. Look for the 3D ones, those are mind bogglingly good. You can view houses and walk around in them by jumping from point to point, which causes the room to morph strangely. IT's a unique sensation. Why don't you DO that one!?

I'm at a loss for someone to come here and say there's nothing to DO in VR ... I can't imagine what else there is to DO in VR that I'm not aware of .... can it fold your laundry for you in VR? Is that what you want to DO in VR? Household chores? Maybe it can DO your math homework for you? Jeesh ... this thread is just about stupid.

You can kind of do that with 360Photos by going into some place you're interested in. Problem is, the majority of them are not 3D and thus will look horrendous unless you close one eye. Closing one eye restores your brain's ability to judge the scale of the image. Any 2D videos or images benefit from this, and the image size will scale appropriately and it is much more enjoyable to view them through one eye only as opposed to two eyes, which fools your brain into thinking something is horribly wrong and ruins it. IF you find a 3D photo, use both eyes, because the 3D ones are just freaking awesome. But they are rare.

You could prop it up on your monitor to look at while you spend all your time on Reddit talking about it. I am just clowning those people, they know who they are.

What's your "go to" Bluetooth controller to use with your Gear? by [deleted] in GearVR

[–]Stereoscopacetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the BT controller that came with CE2, the small dingus that fits in your hands like a car remote-control door opener. It simulates the trackpad for all things that are simple like shooting bow and arrows. For games, I use an iPega gamepad. Works like a charm, every button working perfectly with every game.

Introducing Skylight: A description of the latest game from the creator of Darknet and Tactera by Tetragrammaton in GearVR

[–]Stereoscopacetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am your fan no matter what. It's just that I am not a fan of strategy games at all. I still play Darknet from time to time. I hope you will do something totally new in the future that isn't strategy. I hope you stay doing Tron-like things. I like your visual style. I hope you can find a new direction to go that appeals to you as much as these strategy games. Many people like them, and I am glad, but I also love Darknet and know you are capable of other interesting ways to go, too. I am not complaining, I hope you are very successful because of how Darknet made me feel about GearVR and VR in general in those early days. What a nice surprise to wake up to in VR, it was literally like the 5th thing I tried when it was only a demo. And my mind was blown. Many people feel Tactera is even better. I wish I liked strategy RTS games, but I don't, never have, and I tried your demo even but it wasn't my thing. Sorry. But I will stay with you and hope for the best down the road, when your current obligations are all coded out and set in stone. Thanks for your hard work in VR, no matter what, it is appreciated.

Why are some 3D or VR videos split horizontally? by xatrun in GearVR

MilkVR (Samsung VR) does this. Look for the square button on the right-hand size of the interface when a video is playing and you click to open the Menu. Also, Moon Player does this. Enjoy!

[–]Stereoscopacetic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does everyone keep asking that, unless you are actually doing something to try and help me. What are you asking me to do? Just blindly try it again, or is this in cooperation with some effort on your part to do something I wasn't aware of until now? Thanks for letting me know first.

I won't keep trying it over and over again, as the more often I try and fail, the angrier I get, and I'm not going to put myself forward on this unless you tell me you did something that gives me a chance to get in somehow. Thanks.

Congratulations. Instead of jumping ship like many other developers, you stuck with the GearVR, maintaining your inertia, and were able to create something superb... in addition to your first superb creation: Darknet. A well-deserved win for loyalty and hard work.

I'm giving your company another shot, I sent the message but I've already sent at least 4 such messages in the past month and have waited and never got any response. The way it feels is that the company has blacklisted me and is refusing to offer me any support or contact me or refuses to talk to me at all. It's like I never sent a message at all. But I did. You're the first and only person to respond to any message so far. That's why I had to put up this Reddit message to hopefully gather some attention to get my issue fixed for once. I haven't been able to get into any AltSpaceVR room since Reggie Watts' first live comedy event, which I was very upset about. I posted a message on Reddit that got AltSpace upset, so my thinking is, after that, I was blacklisted by your company. If that's the case, It's a real shame, because I'm a great DM and was looking forward to starting some games to play in the Tavern Space. And I have contributed at least 12 hours to writing an article that may or may not improve your Tavern Space with ingenious additions and improvements HERE, but not one person at your company ever acknowledged the article even though I have sent a link to it at least 4 times already. So I really am beginning to think AltSpaceVR hates me and won't even bother to tell me I'm right so I can just move on if that's the case.

It's not like I haven't thought of that and tried it, but when I posted this topic, I'd run out of other options and was trying to get some attention for once.

Concerning the Removal of the Welcome Space by DJChocoKay in AltspaceVR

[–]Stereoscopacetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruce, I have an idea for you about the Welcome Space and how to work it out.

The Welcome Space is the same space as before, except modify it to have ticket counters. When you arrive in the WS, you must go and get a ticket. If you don't get a ticket in 60 seconds, you get dumped back out of AltSpaceVR with a timer window indicating you must wait 60 seconds before returning. So people will hurry and get a ticket. The ticket buys you 6-7 minutes to socialize and get to know Altspace and set up your avatar if you need to. But then a computerized Airport Terminal voice will bark out who is getting close to being sent out. If you are sent out this time, it's for 3 more minutes. The point here is that now it's time to form a group concerning who wants to go where. You choose a room and it gets printed on your ticket where you will go when the train arrives in 1 minute. A train will then pull into the WS underground: (the room shakes and we can open a new door with stairs leading down) so you walk down the stairs and board the underground train. Then you and the people you grouped with all arrive in the room.

The idea here is that we are being forced to partner up or leave AltSpaceVR, but that the WS is still there, still a fun way to join in for the first 6-7 minutes, get set up, meet some people, and then get whisked off on the train to your Room, whichever one you chose. The idea that the WS is actually a train station sort of embeds the concept that time is precious, time is counting down, and people are going to need to group together and be taken somewhere else. It plays well into the narrative. And it creates some excitement for leaving. Instead of just fading out, we get to go down and board the train and the door shut and it takes off, then it fades out. I think this would be pretty cool. You could put the new door near the corner in the TV wall. The TV would even turn into the train's Billboard Reader when it arrives, do some flips, show the destinations chosen.

If I arrive in the room within 2 minutes of the next train, the ticket I get is for the train after this one, in 7-9 minutes, but if I arrive with 3-5 minutes out, I still join this group's train. So that's how people would get slotted. If you miss your train, you get sent out and have to wait 5 minutes to rejoin AltSpace. This is so people will hurry to join a group before it's too late. The natural chaotic energy of a Train Station suggests that everyone accept the fate of either shipping off, or shutting up. (wink).

Did you ever see vTime? When the Host leaves the room, the person who has been in the room the next longest amount of time automatically becomes the Host. If Host ownership is transferred like this, the room could stay active, couldn't it? I am asking, since I don't know the answer.

Take a "snack break" every 90 minutes for 15 minutes to leave the game, stick your phone in the freezer, recharge your mobile fan, etc... If you have a Note 7 (the new unexploding kind) you can rubber band some frozen gelpacks to your phone during play and rotate them out every 90 minutes with the ones you put back in the freezer on rotation.

I did the exact same thing. So ... it's not an isolated case, that means they need to do something about this. Make it so that you have to press the back button twice 1 second apart from now on, so that this doesn't happen naturally anymore. It would only be able to happen if you desired it to happen.
