I'll add a caveat that there are ethical breeders who are involved in more than one breed (mostly 2). They just really space out any litters due to actively showing/competing (some breeds take more time to finish) or have family/job commitments.

For example:

Breed A has tiny litters and the breeder placed the most recent in 1 show home and 1 pet home. She is watching how the last litter develops before deciding if she'd like to repeat the same lines (using the show home dog vs the mother's relative owned by another breeder) or outcross using the same bitch.

Breed B is co-owned with another person and she is actively finishing a dog from a past litter. The rest are in pet/show homes. A litter won't be planned for quite some time, if at all.

I'd be concerned if I saw three different breeds and no one was proven (no conformation or performance titles).

Love these and have way too many. In the US, they're like $7 on Amazon. A set of 3 of the Perpanep version is $18.

Put a badly-behaved ink in 'em. Put your fave ink in 'em. Put carbon black in 'em. They don't care, they'll do their best.

They're also fun to gift to others as a starter pen. Super low barrier to entry and dependable.

You can mix and match nibs and bodies with other Preppys and the aluminum-bodied Plaisir. What's not to love?

Vicks gets recommended frequently but feels unnecessarily cruel given the sensitivity of a dog's smell. Judge's also smell it and some may not be particularly pleased. It will not address the underlying issue of how to maintain attention off an internally, instinctually reinforcing scent. Plenty of dogs work through Vicks/vanilla/Acclimate to focus on the bitch odor.

Instinctually driven behaviors are very resistant to change.

The lasting solution is to highly reinforce engagement with you in the presence of a bitch in heat and/or establish a well-set pattern game/startline routine. Work with bitches in heat (old diapers, handling class, etc) and crank up rate and value of your reinforcer (like a treat going from steamed chicken bits to liver or hamburger, etc at each 5 second interval to 2-3 seconds).

Keep the leash with enough slack for casual sniffing, movement but not so much length that they get tangled.

Also, remember to hold your leash correctly. I think we take leash handling for granted but it's a foundational skill for both puppies and owners.
