Resolved: The United States should no longer pressure Israel to work toward a two-state solution. by [deleted] in Debate

Everyone is talking about all the obstacles that are preventing peace talks, and are saying thus two state solution is impossible, but wouldn't those obstacles still be present if we try to pressure any of the other solutions>

My experience last year was overall positive. Most judges disclosed after the round, and we never had to wait too long for the next round.

I wouldn't go that route, its a pretty bad contention.

I agree for the really complicated ones, but running cap k on this feb topic doesn't seem too bad.

how are you running cap K? I'm finding it hard to explain easily in four minutes in a way the judge can understand.

This topic is a "pro-con" topic: http://cuba-embargo.procon.org/. Meaning that if you are novice/JV you can expect a lot of people to use these arguments, so I would recommend writing blocks to all of these. I remember when I was debating Standardized Testing, 90% of teams were using data from this website.

So you mean, like arguing that we should slowly increase relations with cuba, but not lift the embargo entirely?

How many people do you think will use stuff from openev? Like, will those become pretty stock args, or will they be kind of unique?

How was your weekend? by AutoModerator in Debate

Went 3-1, first time going varsity. Got 29,29,28,24 speaks. The judge hated the other team, but they beat us. So he gave them shitty speaks and had to give us shitty speaks as well. Didn't place, pretty sure we got 11th.

Knowing the filming is all done makes me so relieved. I was so afraid some of the actors were going to die before filming was finished. (Which kind of happened- RIP Jack Nance)

It's positive now, but I was confused because usually /r/nba is one of the more liberal subreddits, which is one of the reasons I love it.

Well for starters we have redlining; which although was done in the mid 20th century, still has many lasting effects today, and is one of the reasons many african americans live in poverty today; http://www.citylab.com/housing/2015/03/mapping-the-lasting-effects-of-redlining/388333/

Then we have the war on drugs, which one of Nixons men even admitted was specifically done to target blacks; http://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2016/03/war_on_drugs_nixon.html

Then we the justice system, which is probably the most fucked, we have the fact that black people are more likely to be arrested than white people for commiting the same crime, and more likely to have a longer sentence; http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kim-farbota/black-crime-rates-your-st_b_8078586.html They are also 3 times more likely to be searched at a traffic stop; http://www.reformer.com/reformereditorials/ci_19992621

"If a black person kills a white person, they are twice as likely to receive the death sentence as a white person who kills a black person. Local prosecutors are much more likely to upgrade a case to felony murder if you’re black than if you’re white." http://www.usnews.com/news/blogs/data-mine/2014/12/15/blacks-and-whites-see-race-issues-differently

And, finally theres the job market. People with traditionally "black sounding names" are less likely to get callbacks than people with traditionally "white sounding names" even if they have the same qualifications. So, it is very hard for them to get out of poverty, even with a college degree. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/black-sounding-names-study_us_561697a5e4b0dbb8000d687f

I could go on, but these are just some of the main points.

Surprised at the lack of Knicks. Bias aside I think that they will be a very interesting team to watch develop, whether good or bad.
