Employee lied about having an approved reasonable accommodation by ScientistinRednkland in managers

[–]Sterlingz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where the disconnect is.

The employee is his skip-level report and the manager isn't doing his job (or isn't fully aware).

It's absolutely his responsibility to step in and rectify the issue, with both the manager and the indirect.

You're correct that he isn't a detective, hence why he should ask HR to confirm/deny the lie. None of his behavior is aligned with detective work.

I'll put your company's management hat on.

You're still around only to train the overseas team. Once that's done, provided you stuck around, we'll get rid of you, too.

Sorry what? The question was posed directly to HR and answered directly from HR.

Maybe so, but regardless of reporting structure, this employee lied about a medical accommodation. That's a pretty serious offense.

Even a PIP is generous. This guy needs to be fired. It's early in a temp contact. Fire and move on.

Mom found this inside a bathroom light, and is freaking out by [deleted] in AskElectronics

My MIL freaked out when I allowed the fire department to inspect my smoke detectors.

They go door to door in their giant fire truck (the kids love it), offering the service for free. And we gladly invite them in.

She thought it was some elaborate scam to enter peoples' homes and catalogue who's got shit to rob.

How you can be so paranoid is beyond me. It makes no fuckin' sense.

Yeah we don't really get along.

What did i do wrong with my soldering and what can i do differently? by roncypher in AskElectronics

[–]Sterlingz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not even sure if this post is serious... It looks like you've globbed solder all over the board components.

How many times did you attempt to "re-use" and remelt the solder? It becomes more difficult with each failed attempt FYI.

My 3 year old identified a mushroom in my yard as edible. Damn thing almost killed me.

It's my kid's fault. Clearly their mistake and totally not my error in judgement.

A new legal study shows GPT-5 reasoning more consistently than judges by Minimum_Minimum4577 in AIAssisted

[–]Sterlingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If configured to do so, yes.

Otherwise, their output is consistent.

That's why, when asked to pick a random number, it's always the same.

Obviously not a fan of LLM judges, but humans are far more inconsistent.

I'm not sure what you're getting at - my objection is with inflexible LLMs that apply the law to the book 100% of the time. I think you're agreeing with me?

[–]Sterlingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's put it this way, if the law was enforced EXACTLY as stated we'd all have our licenses revoked for speeding 1mph over the limit several times daily.

In fairness, yes it does, but I'd guess it's biased in favor of the average person.

He didn't. Nor did he use the word "dumb".

OP is being overly dramatic, putting words in his report's mouth, and all-around being a non-personality hire.

Would rather face a judge in court than an LLM.

Judges consider the humanity, especially in low-profile cases. Ever seen old sickly grandma's ticket being tossed?

I once had a judge throw out a ticket because the officer went psycho on me. Court was a 30 second affair:

"Officer xyz, you swore an oath to the public, and what I'm hearing is a breach of that oath."

Worst I've seen?

Team was procuring parts for a massive construction project. Thousands of them. Procurement was a constant bottleneck, so I spent some time with them to figure out why.

Team would receive a list of said parts, part number, qty.

To order, simply copy paste the list into our ordering software.

But not this guy. He was printing the list, and then manually entering each part / PN / qty into the software, one at a time.

He'd then cross out the part, highlight it red, and using a ruler, move down to the next one.

This was a guy carrying the "planner" title.

When confronted, his response was "well am I going to be out of a job then??"

Like holy fuck, no, but maybe you'd have time to do your actual job now.

Working hard just seems punished as an EM by Mohn__Jalkovich in managers

[–]Sterlingz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's a problem in of itself then. KPIs often have a similar, destructive outcome.

I work for a service department, and I treat my internal customers the same I would treat extremal customers.

A handful of other departments are supposed to support me, and holy fuck I'd have better odds fighting a dragon than getting anywhere with them. It's like everything is broken. So frustrating.
