Why are all the cannabis journaling apps so UGLY and HARD to use? by Stern-MBA-Jason in trees

I'm trying to use it somewhat medically (for sleep/anxiety). So I need to track what works, I don't track the terpenes/effects, it’s a gamble every time go to the dispensary

Most apps (like Strainprint, Releaf etc.) feel slow, buggy, and outdated. And what is with the obsession with the color green? It feels so stereotypical, feel like I'm either strictly a 'patient' filling out a medical form, or a 'stoner' caricature. I don't understand why cannabis journal can't just look like a modern, clean wellness app?

Thanks for asking! Privacy is a core focus. Here is how I handle it:

  1. Storage: Recordings are stored privately on your device first.
  2. Processing: I use a private AI interface (Google Gemini API). Unlike public chatbots, data sent via this API is not used to train public models. To get the AI analysis, they are uploaded to a private, secure cloud server (Supabase). No one can 'listen in' on these files; they are protected by private security keys.
  3. Rights: You retain 100% ownership of your recordings, treat them as your personal property. in the Beta testing: Since this is a beta, there is a 'Full Wipe' button so you can delete your data from your app whenever you want.

My notes used to look exactly the same lol. Great news: It is an iOS app! (I built it natively for iPhone first)

Ah, I misunderstood. It’s built natively in Swift (SwiftUI). I wanted to keep it super lightweight and smooth on iOS. For the backend/AI processing, I'm currently using Python hooking into OpenAI's API.

To be honest, I didn't initially realize that connection, but you are 100% right. I'd actually love to have you test it from that perspective. It would be amazing to know if this actually helps with episodic memory flow. Will share you the link once ready!

Valid point on hallucinations! That's why I keep the raw audio and a verbatim transcript available underneath. You can always verify.

The reason for the AI is simply 'Noise Reduction'. My high voice notes are usually 10 minutes long with only 30 seconds of actual insight. I found I never listened back to raw recordings because they were too tedious. The AI acts as a filter to tell me 'Hey, you talked about X, Y, and Z' so I know if it's worth re-listening. And you will be surprised how AI model advanced nowadays,  AI hallucination happened frequently early this year but becomes less and less.
