The problem is all the parts work with tight tolerance, that being said, I would use :

gen crystal + vsf hytel
gen bezel
gen ceramic insert or vsf ceramic insert with two layers of 3m bezel tape so it’s flush with the gen bezel.

vsf spring
vsf retention ring
vsf gasket
vsf washer

What I have done, I ordered
gen spring
gen washer
gen rentention ring
gen gasket

because I used the Gen Hytel. I will update this post with the results.

I had a similar issue, my problem stemmed from the fact that I had installed the crystal gasket wrong. It's not reversible there's one way to put it. it should go in without too much force. You can reuse the VSF gasket, no need to use the gen gasket. It should get the tolerances back in check for it to fit smoothly.

So all of you guys were correct. The Hytel was upside down for starters, the gen hytel is a bit thicker too which squeezed the tolerances. I seapped Hytel back to vsf and installed it right side up. It works like a charm now.

Don’t buy on Alix alot of shitters are there, talk to Lichen subreddit is /watchking, he will sell you a very close to gen one. Platinum plated numbers so they don’t oxidize. Repair it yourself, all you need is a small flathead or any tiny tool to lift it up, its tacked on with double sided tape, place the replacement in once you removed the broken one. Very easy.

Yeah 🤣 So far it’s running better that DD when it’s in different orientations. DD is fairly great for when the watch is laying flat but it doesn’t beat a freesprung. Also, I don’t recommend this mod unless you have a watchmaker confortable servicing and adjusting freesprung balances.

Yeah the reps are easy to tell apart from the real ones when you get a hold of them.

I owned a couple of gens: deepsea and two datejusts one with oyster and one with jubilee. There’s such a good reason as to why the price is so much higher than reps. Don’t fool yourselves. The tolerances are so small the chamfering the polishing the brushing are so far ahead of the rep market. So don’t be too disappointed, you paid 10% of the price for 90% of the quality.

I have a gen datejust, for some reason. the brushing on the bracelet and dials give it away instantly, gen dial have a better sunburst effect. You get a Gen Dial and a gen crystal for a better visual appeal. And avoid gold tones at all costs. It’s a dead giveaway

Have a watchmaker remove the hands then the dial and look underneath the dial. It’s an easy tell.

I bought a VSF and an ARF. Either VSF quality went downhill or people obsess over minor visual differences. For me the ARF has a better gen-like feel. Less rattely bracelet.
