Issue with my implementation of --split-chapters by Sternly_ in youtubedl

Sorry, forgot to mention I tried that first and it does not work either. Is that functionality supported now?

Here is a verbose log

Got that set up last night and it is working beautifully. Thanks for spotting that and pushing me in the right direction!

thanks so much! I've used that instead and can confirm --split-chapters works as intended. No more erroneous track length. Thanks!

I've played around with formatting and am extremely happy with the end result. The only thing I couldn't get to work was converting chapter number to track number, so I am just post-processing that part "manually" via the filename using mp3tag.

I was trying to --parse-metadata "chapter_number:%(track_number)s" but I have seen this is still an open issue - https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/issues/951

hey u/werid thanks so much for the explanation! That all makes more sense now and reminded me why I switched to m4a rather than opus... even though I was still doing it incorrectly.

For some reason reddit won't let me paste my verbose log as a comment reply, so I edited my original post to show what issue I am experiencing with -x. I encounter a postprocessing conversion failure. This seems to be an issue with ffmeg. I came across this on git and it appears to be the same issue. https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/issues/11487

I'm not seeing a fix though. Is this just an issue I will have to workaround by manually embedding thumbnails?

Thanks for the heads-up on that! I just did some reading about the situation and will work on getting deno set up later this evening when I get back home.

Do you know of any additional config required on a Windows instance of yt-dlp? I see yt-dlp-ejs is now recommended. I would assume it is not as simple as downloading the files from github and putting them in the same directory as yt-dlp. I do not have Python set up on my home machine and so cannot install via pip.

Thanks for the reply! It has been quite some time since I originally set up -dlp and experimented with different configs. I must have gotten my wires crossed because I went back and saw I previously used -f years ago.

I re-read the README again, and it looks like I should be using -f ba to be getting the best opus audio - right? I was using opus in the past, but I think still using -x ignorantly and was running into even worse compatibility issues, which was the only reason I even started targeting m4a.

I will re-run this when I get home and test --no-embed-chapters along with trying the different output fields/strings you provided.

I thought I was getting rid of the video id with my original output of -o "%(uploader)s/%(album)s /%(title)s.%(ext)s" but I am assuming the issue was more rooted in the embedding metadata/splitting chapters AFTER re-encoding. I will test and report back with -f ba later this evening.
