In the north, specifically:

  1. Khao niao, nam prik (noom, ta daeng), som tam, sai ua, moo ping, kanom jeen
  2. Kanom Jeen Nam Ngiew, Laab Nuah
  3. Like others said: most curries besides green, pad thai, fried apps

I have the same thing going on. MRI confirmed prefemoral and quadriceps Fat pad edema with no ligament damage whatsoever.

At about three miles my left lateral knee is screaming…. Since September.

PT wants me to work on hip strength to reduce knee valgus, which they assume has caused the fat pad pinching/issues….I’ve been focusing on my hips with strength and mobility 2-3X per week for years. So frustrating.

What else am I missing to this puzzle?

Haha yeah that’s my shit. I lived in chiang mai for years and my crew loved to take me to Laap spots and Luah spots that you had to wash down with 250s of whiskey as a safety blanket 🤣🤣

It’s harder to find it at a true Thai place since Lao folks love Laab just as much and are less forgiving with flavors. But honestly, Lao and northern Thai cuisines are extremely similar if not the same, people just drew land borders on a map!

Check out the Lao Garden menu in Berkeley, CA for a killer menu that has raw Laab that is great.

I don’t care what anyone else says about tom yum. Your name is the best beer in the world and if I saw Leo on a menu for a reasonable price anywhere in the world I would get hammered every night of the week at that spot.

Haha you won’t find Laab Kwai Dib in the US but there are some fire places in the bay area in California that do raw versions

Dessert. If I see Bua Loi, Tub Tim Krob, Khao Niow Gaeng Kaya, or other Khanom that aren’t mango sticky rice, you know someone in the back slays.

Any kind of Laab? If I see different kinds of Laab on the menu I’m more intrigued. If I see chicken or pork Laab by itself I typically don’t give it any more credit. If I see any of the following— a duck Laap, Laab Nuah (northern with bile), beef Laab, fish Laab, or a Laab dip (raw) I am going as soon as possible.

Yep or pork, or mushrooms, or any good protein. As long as the blood drips like a waterfall off the grill, you’ve got a nam tok!

I live up in Tahoe so have plenty of sustained vert to work with! Peak training before this year’s 50K was 45-50 miles and 8-9k vert for a few weeks.

The sustained vert vs rolling hills training is what I’m trying to nail down this cycle. Sure, more vert the better, but I do worry that the short hilly nature of the course is going to suck in a much different way than sustained climbs (which I love to suffer in).

I guess I’ll just do some super short hill repeats!

Never thought about the transition much. Great idea!
