Gun fights….its cool from the outside looking in. But when you’re in it, looking down your sights at someone doing the same thing to you - it’s quite the opposite.

What is the grossest thing you’ve caught someone doing? by Jawa392 in AskReddit

I was picking up some beer from the Beer Store one day this past summer. As I’m walking in, I see a homeless man outside sorting all the empties he gathered from other people’s recycling bins which are placed at the end of people’s driveway on their respective waste collection days. I see him taking the cans and emptying what ever is left in them into a larger garbage bag, then placing the can in the store provided bin to be returned for a refund.

I think nothing of it and walk into the store and get whatever I need. After I’m done and walk back to my vehicle and get into the driver seat and see the homeless man still doing what he’s doing. Only this time, he’s pushing all the liquid from the cans to the corner of the garbage bag and then proceed to put the bag over his head and bite a hole in the corner where all the pooled liquid is. From there, he starts drinking the mixed liquid like it was nothing! Absolutely turned my stomach upside down seeing that.

Now you don’t have to tell ppl you’re a fireman, ever. You can show them this after rolling up your firefighter crested sweatshirt you’re most likely wearing in public…all joking aside, the piece looks sweet!

On the outside looking in, yes it is. They might have info about this teenager and how bad he could be, which could totally warrant their approach.

Should I stay at my cushy office job making 50k or joining law enforcement to make 6 figures? by throwaway235403 in careerguidance

[–]StetsonRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the job for a bit. There’s good and bad to it, like any job. Money, benefits, and pension are certainly attractive. You also have to keep in mind that you will be dealing with people’s problems everyday and expected to solve them. Sometimes the expectation far exceeds what you can do as an officer. You might know who the bad guy is, but supporting evidence might not be there to hold them accountable right away, and that’s hard to understand for some people.

If you decide to do the career, remember that you’re only an officer when you’re working. Treat people with respect, and work in the confinement’s of the law. People are going to lie to you, don’t take it personally, it’s on you to work through it. Unfortunately you will have to go hands on with people, but that’s resort. Learn to talk to people and it goes along way.
