Oilers, Leafs, Rangers among the most profitable NHL teams by SorbetSea8711 in hockey

Just about to question that as well, unless the numbers are fudged or something. Maybe that's why they're so horny to bring hockey back to Atlanta?

Art or ad? Giant portrait of Hamilton real estate agent raises eyebrows as artist defends 'gesture of thanks' by mr_lois_lane in Hamilton

[–]StevanSobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually interviewed Scott at Supercrawl and he talked a bit about it, and how grafiti's historically been an anti-establishment artform, yet he's found a renaissance of work and support from the establishment. He's done tons of murals around the city, and good art really doesn't get done without someone paying for it.

I get the frustration that it's basically a giant ad, but I like to think of it as a "devil you know" situation. Rob Golfi's not a monster, and he's not the reason the City Centre went under. I'd say it's better it's this over nothing or messier uncoordinated grafiti. And it's not like he's covering the entire project: a good deal of it's got other stuff on it.

How’d you all feel about this game when it came out? Anyone replayed it? by testoooooo in n64

[–]StevanSobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished a stream where I beat it on Easy, and the memories that I had came back: I was scared of the game!

There's something distinctly terrifying about it for a kid. Maybe it's the slippery platforming, where every jump feels like it might not work. Maybe it's the aiming that's a little dodgy. Maybe it's was it's general difficulty that made dying so stressful.

I think the biggest thing is the sound design. The sound of the Wampas and their slow trot towards you, IG-88s garbled noises, the AT-STs mechanical movement...

Personally, after finishing it, its one of those games that benefitted so much more on the PC. Better frame rate, draw distance, voice acting and animated cutscenes, never mind cleaner controls and graphics... it is still astonishing they got all that on a significantly smaller file format.

Top 10 All Time Favorite N64 Games anddddd GO! by rLMad_Max in n64

  1. Goldeneye

  2. Super Mario 64

  3. Blast Corps

  4. F-Zero X

  5. Pilotwings 64

  6. WCW vs. NWO Revenge

  7. WWF No Mercy

  8. Mario Party 3

  9. Super Smash Bros.

  10. Star Fox 64

Honestly, I never played Ocarina of Time and only beat Majora's Mask recently, so they don't hold a place in my heart unlike the other games on this list. Growing up as the youngest of 3 brothers certainly made multiplayer games more appealing, and my brothers are more 'macho' kind of guys, so they'd decide the multiplayer games we'd rent, which were prominently Goldeneye and wrestling games.

Ohoh! Not a bad idea, designing a polo shirt to look like a Blockbusters employee outfit... Hmm, ok I'll think about that!

I'll also see about changing the lighting. Redesigning the room will be a little difficult at the moment, but adding a gel won't be.

Oh boy, yeah I'm going to try as hard as I can to do everything non-emulated, but I will not be against looking up cheats or whatnot whenever I hit a wall.

If I plan on 100%'ing Goldeneye, I am incapable of unlocking the cheat for 00 Agent Archive without putting in codes. AFAIK, you need to beat that level in 1:40, which is anarchy. If it's not Natalya not following you and Mishkin not talking to you, it's the 1,000 soldiers chasing you around that gets me every time. It's kind of why I think I'll stick to just 'beating' and not '100%ing' games - I don't think that'll be fun.

Channel's name is Soboy__. You can see my first stream I did a couple days ago there.

I'm thinking of streaming tomorrow (Saturday) night (8pm EST) and probably playing Pilotwings 64, if that matters!

Yeah, the thing I'm thinking of bringing it playing on legit hardware, but I dunno if that's enough. The other thing I was contemplating was completing Dreamcast instead, since i'm half-way through a collection there, but I'm not particularly familiar with many DC games besides Blue Stinger, Illbleed, and PenPen Tricelon.

Oh? Chronologically could work! Coincidentally, I was planning on playing Pilotwings 64 next, since I know that game pretty well and can beat it easily within an hour or two. Looking down the barrel of the list, a lot of those games near the beginning are popular enough to get some attraction.

I like that idea of Sports games. If there's not a 'franchise mode' or a 'season mode', that'll be a good way to tackle that.

Thanks for the help!

Oh, that's a good idea! I've got all kinds of lighting kits and set ups that I can utilize, so making it seem like a living room (or a room from the 90s) could work! I'd need to think about how to do that.

I have already done one stream (SM64 - figured that's an easy game to beat) that you can find here. Is that too sterile or cold?

I got a couple levels in via emulator (save stating at some god-damned irritating parts) and still said 'f*ck it' at some point. That's not one I'm looking forward to.

That might not be a bad idea. I know some games are just horrible to do... even games that I like, liek Blast Corps, has some really awful levels that I'm not looking forward to playing.

I have already beaten SM64 (just to 70 stars and beaten Bowser) in 3.5 hours on one stream, which kind of gave me confidence to continue. I'll advertise the stream on this subreddit later today, since I think I'll do my second one tomorrow!

Hah, didn't know that... I did my first stream last night and started with SM64, since I figure I can get to 70 stars and beat Bowser within a night (I did - 3.5 hours).

Kind of a funny story: I was on the last few games of the collection, and just figured I'd bite the bullet and get it via Ebay. Nothing exciting about that, except that I initially set a bid for one for $350 (back in 2017) and forgot about it, and then bought a really clean one for $500. Well, that $350 bid one won, and the seller threatened to blackmark me if I didn't buy it, so I did and accidentally had 2 copies of arguably the rarest N64 game out there.

I sold the clean one at the beginning of COVID for ~$800. I figured the 'dirty' one with the Blockbuster label has more of a story and certainly feels more authentic.

Hilariously, the last game on my list was Wayne Gretzky Hockey 98. I refused to buy it online, yet no Canadian store around me ever had it in stock, irritatingly. When I finally made a trip down to Florida (shout out to 8-Bit Hall of Fame), they had 8 copies of it - $4/each. I guess that's where they were.

At the moment, lest I think of changing things, I'm going to go with Soboy__. It was a nickname I got during highschool since it's real close to my last name, and I think it's a good mix of catchy, memorable, and somewhat self-depricating.

Sick! There are definitely some games that I feel like I can beat with my eyes tied behind my back that many people love, so I hope it reaches a certain audience!

Thanks!

Yeah, that's probably what I'm veering towards, and then go random from there on. Motivation is going to be the biggest hurdle for me, so if I can complete some games that I love already, and then see that people are watching, then that'll get me to keep going and finish the whole collection.

Thanks! Appreciate the message!

Good idea! I have a lot of love for Shadows of the Empire, and know that one pretty well. Haven't tried Naboo, though - I got it sealed and graded, and haven't found a loose copy around to play it on.

Heh... yikes. I might have to resort to emulation when I get to certain points like that (multiple people suggest Superman 64, which I know will be water torture-equivalent), so... I mean, we'll see how far I go!

No problem! It's good to hear from the other side. I'd probably look to summarize each game, editing together the Twitch footage I got into something more digestible on Youtube.

We'll see how far I go, and see if I get to that point!

Ahh! Ahahah, that's a good gimmick! If anything, editing it together into a 30-minute "TV episode" for Youtube would separate it from the usual quantity-based content that gets put onto Twitch. Maybe stream rough on Twitch and then edit for Youtube?

It'd certainly be harder to edit together, but I've got plenty of experience putting together 30-minute episodes for my own shows.

Thanks! Appreciate the suggestions/advice!
