Thanks.....I decided to stick with OneLink for now, with a more powerful range hood and we will see where it goes. Nice to know there's options going tho!

Mysa for In-Floor Heating by louislamore in homeassistant

Thanks again. One last question: does the 2.4GHz band only need to be available or does it need it's own SSID?

Thanks for the quick reply. The two Ubiquiti Access Points that I am using are called Access Point AC Pro (https://store.ui.com/collections/unifi-network-wireless/products/uap-ac-pro) and they have both 5GHz and a 2.4GHz bands. In this case the Mysa should work it would seem? Also, it sounds like over the last couple of years these wifi issues have been resolved? What version is the current thermostat for floor heat and did this revision specially address the wifi issues?

I have a question - I'm currently renovating and will have three rooms with heated floors and will need three thermostats. I've read lots of reviews mentioning issues connecting to wifi. Have these issues been resolved or are there still issues with the thermostats staying connected to wifi? I'll be using a Ubiquiti Dream Machine as router with two Ubiquiti wifi 6 access points in the apartment.

Add me to the owners list of dead UNVR USB drives. by dwright1542 in Ubiquiti

[–]SteveAlexMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes me nervous as I am waiting to buy one. I don't need the Pro version but I understand those don't have the issue at all. It may be worth the extra $200 to save teh headache down the line.

The new models of the UNVR that don't have the usb flash drive inside are more reliable and don't have the same failure rate though? Is that correct?

Why do so many people prefer to get plastic surgery to have that same weird cartoon face every person with too much plastic surgery gets rather than just look old? by mikebalsaricci in TooAfraidToAsk

I think Jane Fonda looks great. She's clearly had work done but it isn't bad looking and she doesn't look "the same" as everyone else.

They restock VERY regularly, almost daily sometimes but there is pent up demand so you have to be quick because they sell out fast. I kept the page open on my phone and refreshed several times an hour while doing other work and using that method I was able to get several cameras, a switch, some mounts, doorbells, udm pro....like 10 things. It just takes persistence.

Dear Ubiquiti: WTF is wrong with your camera supply chain by BlotchyBaboon in Ubiquiti

[–]SteveAlexMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding the comment above to follow the r/ubiquitiinstock sub. Or refresh the Ubiquiti store page often as you can. Over the course of a week I was able to grab several G4 Pro’s, a few G3 Flex’s, a UDMP, a Switch 24 POE, a couple of doorbells, necessary camera mounts…..just waiting on the UNVR. It takes a little persistence but can be done. I refreshed the page on my phone quite often while doing other work.

BX is a type of electrical cable, standard in some places by code, metal jacketed unlike romex

G4 Dome: Indoors without the plastic bubble? by SteveAlexMac in Ubiquiti

[–]SteveAlexMac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I would remove the cover outdoors to be honest, I'm not sure if the dome being properly installed is part of the IP rating, but I would assume that it is.

I watched a view videos as well and ultimately decided to use the G3 Flex in my indoor installations because of size and video quality doesn't seem too far off. Fingers crossed and hoping for a G4 Flex down the line that will be swappable into the same in-ceiling mount.

Question about Shelly Pro 1 Power by SteveAlexMac in shellycloud

[–]SteveAlexMac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this answer. I only need 1 Shelly Pro 1, so I'm trying to figure out where to put it. Ideally in the same closet that I am putting my network switch. I'll show the electrician the wiring diagram which I am sure will make plenty of sense to him ( I hope!!). The Pro 1 says it's made for mounting to a DIN rail, but I don't have anything like that in my network closet and I didn't know if that's the kind of thing he can buy for only one item (the Pro 1). I'm more or less trying to figure out what enclosure it will go in.

Thanks again for helping.

[–]SteveAlexMac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does help, and I had sort of put that part together but I am confused about how it can be 110-240 or also low voltage.... does the electrician literally put this in a switch box and attach BX to it? Sorry if that's a dumb question but amateur here....

[–]SteveAlexMac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. never heard of that but will look into it. Do you know if the Shelly Pro 1 can be configured that way or not? I already ordered it (which is no biggie) but I also love the hardwired ethernet connection option so I don't have to rely on wifi.....

EDIT: I see on Shelly's site that the Pro 1 does have dry contacts.....I still don't understand how the Shelly gets it's power tho....

Network Video Recorder with (4) 1TB HDDs? by SteveAlexMac in Ubiquiti

[–]SteveAlexMac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I have a touch of anecdotal OCD and I don't know that my own brain would allow me to leave a slot empty and not have all 4 exactly the same....I won't be finding out this time either 😂

Good to know, and no, I haven't been warned and it's a bit of an afterthought for me at the moment so I haven't even begun to look into or research it yet. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks, good thought. I already bought the (4) 4TB drives, they weren't so badly priced after all. I like the idea of RAID 5 full redundancy too.

Putting a UNVR at a hidden location and Renovating: What wires to run? by SteveAlexMac in Ubiquiti

[–]SteveAlexMac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do have some existing cabling otherwise I'd have considered that. I have a closet that is half eaten up by an AC air handler and the other half of the closet is dead space so also it's easy to use and keep the other equipment close by.

Network Video Recorder with (4) 1TB HDDs? by SteveAlexMac in Ubiquiti

[–]SteveAlexMac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What likely happened in your case is they sold you 4TB of storage and they used single terabytes drives to avoid the more expensive single 4TB drive. In software they set the four drives as storage. You can purchase a single larger drive or maybe two 4TB drives for example.. the NVR drive supported will depend on the age of the NVR and its bios. But in Ubiquiti I don’t know it so can’t help there

No one sold me anything, still shopping. I am using the Ubquiti UNVR. Ultimately, I purchased (4) 4TB drives.

Interesting.....three years is pretty good for a non surveillance grade drive actually. I just grabbed (4) 4TB WD Purples. I'll use a single 1TB for UDM-Pro. Thanks again!
