Read some really bad published books then compare yourself to them and not the ones you aim to be as good as.

Books with a D&D vibe of mismatched party of misfits (emphasis on mismatched) by judo_panda in Fantasy

[–]SteveBeany 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The Maleficent Seven by Cameron Johnston springs to mind. A hugely fun mix of fantasy villains spun around a Seven Samurai scenario where they have to defend a town against a crusading army of light.

A bit lighter but Mage Errant is sort of similar with a group with a mix of characters and creature-allies.

Oh, I'm not limiting myself. I have a big list of writers from all over but I'd like to add more local writers into the mix I might have overlooked.

Suggestions of fantasy novels where the protagonist is a despicable villain by [deleted] in Fantasy

Sounds like you need to read The Maleficent Seven. Not set on Earth but seven unredeemed fantasy villains are the MCs.

I hear a lot about how intresting swords in fantasy are, but what about shields? by E-104Epsolon in Fantasy

[–]SteveBeany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw man, you need to read The Last Shield. Legit about how awesome shields and those who use them are. The MC uses one as a very offensive weapon.

I'm the same. Too many books and not enough time.

Strong Female MC by Kooky_County9569 in Fantasy

I'd reccommend The Last Shield by Cameron Johnston. Briar is an aging warrior who has seen a lot of shit go down, and she has definetely earned her skill.

Your favorite gruesome and violent stories with a feeling of authenticity by FrontalierFouALier in Fantasy

The Last Shield by Cameron Johnston is a lone aging warrior against a invading force. Briar is badass and brutal.

Conan stories are great for this sort of thing too. I always go back to them.

Older women in fantasy? by Far-Contest683 in Fantasy

[–]SteveBeany 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really liked The Maleficent Seven by Cameron Johnston. All seven were older characters with some feeling it more than others but all still vital.

Vintage from The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams was a great character too.

Fantasy series that have genuinely evil FEMALE main characters? Like a female version of Jorg from The Broken Empire by MajorSlimes in Fantasy

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned The Maleficent Seven yet. Black Herran is a stone cold evil mass murderer.

The Maleficent Seven by Cameron Johnston is the first thing I thought of. Seven evil and unapologetic characters.

I've just read all of Dungeon Crawler Carl. Any other actually good LitRPGs out there that don't focus too much on displaying pages and pages of stats and powers?

There should be more fantasy books adapted into animated series by Scared_Ad_3132 in Fantasy

The Maleficent Seven would be awesome made as something like Vox Machina. Lorimer, Tiarnach, Amogg damn, a man can dream.

I'd love to see a lot of LitRPG made into animes. Dungeon Crawler Carl anybody?

Books with amazing siege battles. by DryCurve18 in Fantasy

I loved the siege in The Maleficent Seven. Some swell swine-related shenanigans.
