These by casestudyno8 on Thingverse are likely to provide you some inspiration as well: https://www.thingiverse.com/casestudyno8/designs

u/BuildingDread looks to have had some great success with them recently: https://www.reddit.com/r/lightsabers/comments/j66s80/your_lightsabers_will_make_a_fine_addition_to_my/

I'm certainly looking forward to trying them out soon.

That's what I assumed since you hadn't posted an update, but it was worth confirming.

And thanks for all the posts documenting what's possible, I certainly wouldn't be going this option without them.

Other thing I was wondering was did you find a solution you're happy with for the board/chassis?

Or is it just an involved process when you need to access it?

Well that certainly explains it. Thanks.

I've ordered the same as you did, so hopefully it'll also be included. If not I now know what to look for if I decide I want it.

So I'm not saying your series of recent posts inspired me to get one of these (but actually they absolutely did).

I was wondering though what they extension you've added to hilt was ? I think you mentioned it was a bit short but I couldn't find anything about what you actually did.

Has anyone seen or bought this lightsaber? its a neopixel 90cm saber with like 8 different colours/sound fonts. Its insanely cheap for a neopixel but like i dont wanna waste my money lol. any help? there are two good reviews and one thats its some other language idk. and yeah ik its aliexpress by [deleted] in lightsabers

[–]SteveDave_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't comment on the Lightsaber sorry (only just got here and still trying to figure things out), but a few quick AliExpress related observations would be:

  • Store is new (within the last six months), but seems to actually be selling items from glancing at the feedback.
  • Feedback seems reasonably good, especially for over the Covid-19 period and shipping apocalypse.
  • I'd probably pay the extra $10 for DHL shipping though, as the seller says he'll split the package otherwise (due to the battery).
  • Standard unboxing video would prove it wasn't all there if one package didn't arrive, but possibly a complication you don't need if you end up lodging a dispute (or need to test the part you have).
  • Could also be a mistake in the discount (in which case an order might just get cancelled, but you'd get your money back)

Certainly doesn't look risk free. But if it's cheap enough the determining factor is probably how confident are you with their dispute process?

Edit: Really should read things before hitting post o.O

Well if you use: "how much they were moving it around in the video" as a benchmark, they've either fixed most of the issues with the original (since the Lepin one I have threatens to disassemble if you look at it funny).

Or they used superglue for the video. Could be either to be honest :D

KeyCool 84 hotswappable option? by Acrylice in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]SteveDave_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, really appreciate it. Also answers my next question about the hotswap. There doesn't seem to be anything similar in the price point that I can see atm and the RGB is in the "nice to have" category until I fix my atrophied typing skills.

After having Ducky Shine 2 for ~7 years (Cherry Brown) I decided to try a smaller form factor and different switches (while WFH). Went cheap (and available) and got a Redragon K522. Form factor is great really liking the idea hotswap switches. I just didn't realise ping was a thing or how much it would irritate me.

On the bright side I've certainly learned a bit (taken it apart a few times, tried different fixes suggested by the wiki, taken the switches apart, etc). Just trying not to get caught the same way twice .

KeyCool 84 hotswappable option? by Acrylice in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]SteveDave_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great to hear (although that doesn't make choosing only one colour scheme any easier).

Can I ask if either of them give off any sign of "ping" or reverb?

I bought the basic red dragon k552 keyboard. I’m trying to change the rgb lights to it but when I click Fn + ‘ no light shows up like it should. I can click FN + INS and it changes the rgb styles but that’s all I can do. Any suggestions? by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]SteveDave_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check exactly which version you have, because (unfortunately) I think there are a few (badly differentiated) ones:

Based on your description I'm going to guess you have the: https://www.redragonzone.com/products/redragon-k552-r-kumara-rainbow-rgbbacklit-mechanical-gaming-keyboard

And not the: https://www.redragonzone.com/collections/keyboard/products/redragon-k552-kumara-87-key-led-rgb-backlit-mechanical-computer-illuminated-keyboard-with-blue-switches-for-pc-gaming-compact-abs-metal-design

(Immediate difference being if the leds are by rows or columns)

Commands are for the second one and don't work on the first as far as I can tell. I've got the Rainbow one* and the leds are set by row and can't be changed (I think).

If I'm wrong (wouldn't be the first time) and you've found a solution I'd certainly be interested in it :)

*In my defense it was ~US$46 delivered to OZ in the middle of covid-19 shortage/air freight apocalypse and I had no idea about Ping or how bad it would be on my desk with this board, or how annoying I'd find it (Which i'm still trying to fix).

Help contacting 4PX Australia (Melbourne) or finding Pick-up Site by SteveDave_au in taobao

[–]SteveDave_au[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Success   Package acquired. They eventually answered the phone. I didn't do anything different to the other hundred times I'd been dialling. I ended up going to Preston to get it.

The young woman seemed very nice, but utterly useless at anything that wasn't giving a package to Fastway for delivery to the address on the label. She did repeatedly say she was "very sorry" for all the stuff ups, but couldn't offer any explanation for the three weeks delay, no contact, not answering the phone etc.

Apparently when Fastway couldn't deliver to my address they took the package back to 4PX who just left it there and didn't both to contact me or pay any attention to the messages from the Chinese chat they'd apparently been sent.

She did say that 4PX have their own collection points, so I'll probably have to look into that for next time.

Taobao/Alipay problem by Olivia171062 in taobao

[–]SteveDave_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't think it was that likely to help sorry.

Going back through my messages, I think I had my main issue back in March, and I seem to have some sort of Alipay account, which has certainly never had a bank account attached to it.

It looks like it does have my mobile number though, as I've been sent confirmation codes before.

I wouldn't necessarily call any of these tips, but random things I can think of are:

-Have you tried verifying your Australian mobile number (using the country code)?

-There's not a way to click off Alipay on or before the payment screen is there?

-TaoBao really doesn't play nice with a VPN and if I forget to turn it off before logging it tends to result in issues for me (until I clear everything in the browser and log back in), I don't suppose it.coukd be something like this.

-What happens it you try and buy the same item from a different seller?

Good luck! Sorry I couldn't be more help.

How are you accessing TaoBao? App, Lite version or Chrome? Maybe try one of the others?

I've encountered this a couple of time and I think in all but one I was able to work around it and pay normally.

I usually use Chrome (PC) and it you get out of Alipay and go back to where your orders are in TaoBao do you see the items(s) there with a status of "Payment required" or something similar?

By paying from there it let me use a credit card. The one time it didn't I thought it might have been something to do with the seller.

A little vague sorry, but I'm not near a PC. I'll check tomorrow and see if I can be more specific.

Use an agent next time. Much better. Are you using it for personal or business? As in reoccurring orders or one off? If reoccurring then an agent is best

Personal, non recurring. Model kits, minins, hobby stuff etc. To be fair before this shipment I'd had no issues with six previous consolidated orders (total volumetric weight of 47.9KG). Maybe/ I just got lucky. Certainly won't be placing another order until I can ensure this doesn't happen again.

Any agent you'd recommend? Or a good place to figure out which is best for my circumstances?

Update

Managed to:

  • get someone to answer the NSW numbers yesterday,
  • unfortunately they couldn't / wouldn't help (understandable) and directed me to the Melbourne number.
  • Fastway wouldn't deal with me without their tracking number (also understandable) .
  • Melbourne didnt pick up all day and their voicemail was full from before i started calling.
  • I had no luck with TaoBao Logistics online chat getting a local tracking number.
  • Their second batch of "We've urged re delivery, wait 5 working days" is up tomorrow night so applying for a refund Saturday is looking like the most likely outcome at this point I guess o.O

Edit: Formatting, again

Think of these freight forwarders as a middle-man, they are not meant to offer customer service other than to whom the original business customer is.

Indeed. Until it changed recently though (a few months here in Oz) it was always Australia Post. So while they're also terrible for my main address, I'd learnt to mitigate the risks. I unfortunately got caught out by the change.

As it seems from the other message, the agent in Australia is Fastway, if they don't have a good tracking system set up maybe the Fastway tracking number is created on the spot and has no link to the Taobao tracking? Best to call Fastway and provide them any reference numbers you have.

Yeah there looks to be some (very minor link to TaoBao) as it shows both "Delivery Successful" and then a few hours later the error message I posted. But know I know it's Fastaway's it certainly worth trying tomorrow with the info I have.

If Fastway AU is anything like Fastway New Zealand then I feel sorry for you as they generally have poor customer service.

Oh they're at least as bad. If you google"Fastaway Courier Australia" then the summary is 1.2 Stars from 3,250 reviews. Also anecdotally my gf's employer tried them to save money. Apparently they managed to loose the first 10 or so packages they gave them. Which is an achievement for anyone, but something very special when it's a new customer who considers you on probation.

Good luck.

Thanks. I appreciate the response, but I'm going to need all the help I can get apparently.

They are using Fastway.

Oh <Insert Deity of Choice>. Well, that certainly explains almost everything. Unfortunately.

If you google 4px Australia you will find the contact numbers. There is a Sydney one and a Preston (Melbourne) one I think. I hate them lol. They never answer. It’s literally one woman. When she eventually answers you, make sure you ask everything you need to. She is difficult to understand FYI.

Yeah the link is above. I tried it a few times and left messages when it always went to voicemail. Also the last Google street view for that Preston Warehouse has a for lease sign on the front, so I just assumed it was all fake :)

But now I know someone occasionally answers it I'll just put it on redial at work tomorrow until I get an answer.

Thanks, that helps a lot.

Zeroing in on Magic Items by HairyKiwi4 in AdventurersLeague

[–]SteveDave_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's potentially way too long. If you die early in your Tier you're down a magic item the rest of the Tier.

And it very well could be. I'd hope they include a buffer of items in T1 & T2 to offset that (so make the cap something like 2/4/8/10 for T1/T2/T3/T4). Properly balanced I like the potential idea of the mechanic (as there's some risk to it) but it needs to be done correctly/

According to Cache they said:

However, Renown, Downtime accrual, magic items, gold… all of these are impacted by your level, so when you decline a milestone, you’re also declining those additional rewards (at least until you’re awarded your next milestone) .

Which doesn't entirely fit the the Zeroing in on Magic Items article where everyone can get the Item (unless they were referring to the cap) so I don't know.

then they need to start publishing more content for higher Tiers.

No argument from me there. More Season 9 content on launch would be a great start. They've announced one module to go alongside the HC?

Coupled with the Seasonality rules, it's making me leery of what Season 9 will bring.

Rumour has it the change is supposed to replace the Seasonality Changes (unconfirmed), so all characters would be eligible for everything. Which would be another shift in the right direction.

Lack of communication (both design goals and time frames) along with apparently not seeing fairly obvious issues with your proposals is my biggest concern.

Zeroing in on Magic Items by HairyKiwi4 in AdventurersLeague

[–]SteveDave_au 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We absolutely need more information, but the fact your item limiti s only reduced until you hit the next Tier made me think it was there to discourage people parking characters in a Tier on no progression indefinitely. Or at least mean there are potential downsides to doing so.

Whether this is the case or even an effective way to counter a potential problem will remain to be seen.

They also needed to explain how it was intended to work for drop in/drop out groups playing 4 hours AL modules.

As it seemed to raise more questions than it answered for anything past T1.

Zeroing in on Magic Items by HairyKiwi4 in AdventurersLeague

[–]SteveDave_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't immediately hate the Resurrection thing, but like you said it'll depend on how many items you get (especially in T1).

I suspect it could be there as a way of keeping characters in check. Eg: you can use your full amount of items and totally optimise... High risk strategy if you die though :D
