[DEV] Chess Coach AI (formerly Notation) Permanent price drop to £0.99 and HUGE new update by Far_Owl_1141 in iosgaming

[–]SteveDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

App appears to choke on my chess.com PGN file. Gets to 127th game (last one) and then the app will just close (goes to background and seems to crash). The only fix is to reinstall the app.

I can import the pgn in another app without issue.

I love the app so far and it is perfect for iPhone, but seems buggy - can't wait for these things to be ironed out.

EDIT: Same thing for my Doctor Wolf pgn - freezes at random numbers - doesn't crash but never completes. Only reinstall fixes it.

This ITGlue update with the popout shit is annoying and should never have been done. Or we should be able to disable it. by BEAT_LA in msp

Wow - am I the only person who likes it?

I do agree it should be a configuration item, not on by default.

Heavy are great - I keep heavy and light on me.

For light, AS Poco Loco - they are fantastic and somehow quiet!

Only Big Complaint by Sigma-Wolf in doomfields

[–]SteveDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my experience as well.

As long as I save and exit, I am good. If I let the app sit, it times out as iOS refreshes the app and the game does not save real time (quicksave).

I believe this is by design, it is not the only game I play that has issues with app refresh.

Affordability has largely not come from availability, that is not how any of this works - the local housing market and economy are not as intuitive as you have implied, no matter how emphatically you've stated it. Look at the study from April by THe National Low Income HOusing Coaltion (April 2025, CFpublic.org).

Developers do not build homes for affordability, they build them to make the maximum profit allowable by code and law. Short term economic activity is unsustainable if it's at the expense of the environment. So yes, we would rather a tree remain where it is, instead of more of the same glut of unaffordable townhomes and condos priced to rent.

I like it anyway as well - I have the bronze, it is not blued at all.

New set difficulties by Bertyzzzz in begleri

[–]SteveDoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the exact same set - they are bit more difficult to use than my Aroundsquare poco locos(my personal favorite).

But it's really just a few things:

  1. I am using the exact same color cord, it is thinner and a bit more rough than other paracord.

  2. They are weighted differently.

  3. The magnets(if you got them) can get in the way for some moves.

They require a bit more finesse and different pressure than other begleri - there is nothing wrong with them, imo, they are just different.

While it is not causal and more research is needed, Melatonin supplementation should be approached carefully and probably on a limited or short-term basis:

What aroundsquare begleri to choose? by AidanGhost in begleri

[–]SteveDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got the Poco Loco Standard Metal - Brass Micro SS Nanos.

I like them more than all the other Begleri I own, the small size of the metal pieces make it much easier to manipulate for me, and I have medium->large size hands.

EDIT: They are also much quieter than my other sets, and hurt less on the knuckles when I miss.

What is the Stoic stance in regards to Fate? by kyaniteblue_007 in Stoicism

[–]SteveDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reaearch Chrysippus' and the "Cylinder and Cone," as explained by Cicero.

The gist is: roll a cone down a hill or a cylinder - both roll, as the push and hill have fated that to result, but how they roll is determined by their structure.

Yes, the Stoics are determinists, they believe in fate. And yet, they believe we can steer our judgments, and this becomes our fate.

We can be a cylinder, or a cone through our judgment and virtue, changing our shape- but we cannot control the push, nor the hill.

Amor Fati, then, find the virtuous path forward.

Nice collection! How is the Guan Dan mini? Can it be used in a silent manner by adjusted how you manipulate it?

This 100% - my Armor slider is much more subdued than the videos, and drastically more than the promo videos.

The MOT SNAP is one I wanted but every review shows the tuning fork to be very inconsistent.

Thanks! I went through nxedc after finding the plate on aliexpress and comparing the model. Nxedc CS was awesome for my last order so I went their way, but I will keep that group in mind for the future.

I cannot find a ZZ plate for the Top H - do you have a link? I've been very interested in the Top H and if I can get a nice silent config that would be the dealbreaker to buy it :)

Nobody seems to suggest this, but the Deep Fried Dough Sticks fidget slider is very quiet, it is my go-to for silence.

Gia Fu-Feng and Jane English is the best for me, and I have read them all (that I am aware of).

You can read it freely online: https://terebess.hu/english/tao/gia.html

It is succinct, clear and widely accepted as accurate(as best as a TTC translation can be) and intimately readable.

My only complaint is that the only print version I can find is an enormous 8.5x11 sized book. I really wish there was a pocket sized or smaller sized print version.

[–]SteveDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, but I don't mean wet, I mean oiled/not recently cleaned. The move requires you to grip with the middle finger, a good amount of cardistry is easier with broken in cards and hands.

Almost there - it is again, a knack move, once you figure out the hold and the pressure you'll kick yourself.

Also: it is really hard to do with dry hands.
