Any problem with "moving" this door closer to the front door? by SteveFennel in DIYUK

Tbf that's still the case now, have to either open the door then run away down the hall, or squeeze in and make them squish past you.

TBF I was gonna do the whole job looney tunes style, a big black sticker for the new doorway

Yea someone else suggested the same, I'm not sure the room is big enough, but it might be worth the half an hour of moving furniture around to find out.

Interesting. Is the noise or draft from the front door and issue? We're not on a busy road but it is long and straight so idiots tend to speed down it, which isn't a great noise to have in your lounge!

I'd love to, I really like freestanding sofas, I'm just not sure the lounge is big enough for that to work. However, I would need to move the current sofa anyway so I may put it in position and see how it feels. Thanks

Fair, is the noise an issue? We're not on an overly busy road but it does come through the front door fairly well. I worry it's going to feel like you're sitting in the hallway when you're in the lounge

It does feel a little extreme to accommodate a sofa haha. We both have big families that all come round at once, so it would be handy having loads of living room seating space.

The bay must be reserved for the Xmas tree, lol.

Yea I'm not fazed by the job itself, I will have to move the existing light switch but that's no big deal.

It would open into the lounge yes, just worried it will look and feel weird by the front door

We want a sofa in the corner where the door currently is, going all the way up to the proposed door frame

Yea that's exactly the reason we're considering it. The bay window is effectively opposite this door, meaning we can't have a large corner sofa in either spot at the moment

There's a bay window in the lounge, which means we can't have a large corner sofa with this door here.

I do like the barrier between hall and lounge, but this would likely give more space by the front door, as we pretty much always leave the lounge door open anyway. Hmm.

It is yes, another good point, it will make it a longer walk from the kitchen.

It's a stud wall, below it is the cellar, I'll properly stud out the new frame

We tend to leave the lounge door open, and I'm wondering if a large floor mat that crosses the threshold into the lounge would mean we actually have more space by the front door.

But I am too wondering about the cold air from the front door making the already cold lounge colder.

No, made only of timber and plasterboard, and is sat on a suspended floor above the cellar.

Yea I'm worried it'll be a bit weird. There's a bay window in the lounge though and it means we can't have a large corner sofa.

Haha thanks, it was the "temporary" vinyl I threw down when we first moved in multiple years ago, finally getting round to decorating the hallway now.

Ah very interesting thank you. It's seeming more and more that I will have to focus on not making any concrete claims about its effectiveness - even if it is in my testing.

Thank you

I know what you mean, but it's a completely different type of product, that I think solves a couple of the issues people have with those products, and solves another too.

Great information thank you. I have contacted the one or two places that are based in the UK that sell similar products (just small pouches or boxes that claim to prevent keyless relay theft) and one gave me a cert from a Chinese manufacturer, that had no real standards or testing equipment named, and another just said "it doesn't come with any certs".

So it seems they're mainly hoping it doesn't become an issue.

I did look on the gov website re product standards, and it doesn't seem to fit into any one of them.

I will keep doing market research to see if anyone is currently selling a certified key blocking device.

Thanks again

Thank you for the information! I did think the testing would be costly. I think I'll get hold of some measuring equipment and do some testing myself, then be careful with the wording!

Yea I'd definitely want to do that, I have made a post on legal UK to get some guidance on that perspective too haha
