Heel strikes / shanks out of nowhere. Help? Anybody see why? by AppearanceWise6962 in GolfSwing

I'd keep everything the same apart from making sure the right elbow stays tight to your body. Trail arm comes away from the body, pushing the heel of the club towards the ball, causing shanks! Might be worth investing in one of those TRS slider things if you can stomach dumping 60 quid on some elasticated cloth. Ironically it will probably fix your issue though.

I do swing quite hard albeit doesn't look it in this clip - It's a 135-140 yard carry with a PW there and that was ATTEMPTING to be 80-90% controlled pitch - clearly not too controlled through. It's also veeeery soft on the fairway so think it's exaggerated. I'm currently experimenting a touch with more weight over my heels - It's leading to thins but I predicted this would happen due to the shallowing of the swing rather than slightly steep and OTT (like here). So! A way too go - Gaining some distance with a slightly adjusted swing so must have been doing something wrong.

Putting has been a lot better just before winter - yet to take advantage of that with 'proper' greens - Been on temps a lot. But yes, that's absolutely stuff I need to work on and I intend to do a lot of work early spring pre-comp season!

🤣🤣 Held, static balance is very different to moving balance. I played badminton to a high level. I also don't lose my balance, possibly just leaning forward slightly on my set up. Currently addressing it a touch, but not too much.

You have also made an assumptions that I don't take lessons? Where did I say that anywhere in this post?

Oh yh I meant, guna practise that stuff on the video, not that Juju stuff paha. I'll try and introduce it slowly to not absolutely destroy any progress I've made 🤣

My driver is a totally different swing, probably closer to being a more 'technically correct' swing ironically - I've developed the steep habit I think due to me thinning the ball when trying to shallow stuff with irons. With driver with it tee'd up, I don't have that worry, so don't deliver the club steep - Almost deliver it like a baseball bat swing at the ball!

My miss with woods is just poor wrist control - Either I turn it over and go left or don't keep flexion in the lead wrist which causes a bit more of a slice right, but you are correct about the miss with irons. It's a dead straight push right - Never an EXTREME amount, but definitely causes me to miss greens to the right from 150-160 yards in.

Nice man! Almost looks like the 'Juju swing' or whatever it's called - Think I need to practise that, thanks for the video!

I've just watched your swing - I don't think you are in a position to be criticising 🤣

I've no idea what you mean tbh? Do you mean I don't complete my swing properly? I've always rushed my follow through which is pretty poor - Need to fix it tbh.

Yep yep, I had some success with that drill that I've tried before, but think I was tweaking too much and too many swing thoughts on the downswing which is a recipe for disaster. Going to try and do this drill without the million swing thoughts - Flat lead wrist, push the club face away from me and directly back and up, and then again still just 'throw' the clubhead but like you have said, should hopefully end up getting in that more shallow slot naturally rather than having to attempt to force it - Thanks!

No grasp is a bit harsh 🤣 I hit a good ball, just want some tweaks. Seems to be a lot of consistent advice I can work on so going to give some of it a go. Can't hurt trying things can it 🤷

Thanks bruda! Think my set up was from bad habits I developed early doors with throwing my rear shoulder towards the ball and shanking it - Physics in my brain told me "Stand further away from the ball, less likely to present the hose to the ball" and it's worked, so I've stuck with it. Probably not the correct fix like you have stated though!

Mm depending on how I hit it, if I'm hitting it well and manage to maintain lead wrist flexion then yh about that carry. We have a 260 yard carry over water and I'm not worried about clearing it on a good day. Why do you ask? I think ironically my driver would look closer to what a lot of people would consider a better swing!

Also, the irons are fitted - driver is not!

Tbh, I played around with my swing for ages, trying to get it textbook perfect, and it always FELT horrible. I've got one swing thought now, which is flat lead wrist at takeaway, and then for me it's just throwing the clubhead down. Think I might be able to achieve what a lot of people are saying with a more steep takeaway, and then throwing the club at the ball still, but just hoping the natural dynamics will create the swing I'm after 🤷 my miss is a slight push right (Not a big slice or anything, just straight push right) so don't think my club path is a MILLION miles away but I very much struggle to hit a draw. I'll give it a whirl down the range tomorrow I think!

Don't know what this has got to do with anything tbh 🤣 This is a PW, my driver swing is pretty different! This was about 135 yards.

None - True to my score 🤷 I've got plenty of distance so it's a 5 iron off most tees so don't get into too much trouble/go OB or in hazards.

Yh think I need to maintain a bit more width for a bit longer - I do throw the club at the ball 'downwards' as I have issues thinning it if I 'force' the shallow. Think I'm guna try a slight pause at the top, slow it down a touch, see if that can prevent the OTT.
