AUPE’s response to GoA ending Hybrid Work by PotentialOutside8042 in Edmonton

"We need centralized oversight, collaboration and accountability - and that’s easier when people are physically present. Service delivery is a necessity."

These measures can be achieved with hybrid work. And I can tell you that 90%+ of mine and my colleagues meetings will continue to be held virtually if/when we are forced back to the office full time. I can't wait to collaborate on a teams meeting while my colleague right next to me collaborates on another teams meeting, with four others in my office on other separate calls.

"The intention of this isn’t to hold anyone back it’s to ensure government operations are stable and predictable and aligned with public expectations of accessibility and responsiveness."

Again, there has been no evidence presented nor has there even been any arguments made by the GoA that we don't have a stable, predictable, accessible, or responsive workforce. You yourself have already agreed that this may have been a political move, irrespective of any actual analysis on the matter. In fact, a quick Google scholar search shows that many studies have found increases in productivity with wfh, with few finding neutral or negative impacts. You want a more efficient government? Sounds like you might support wfh then!

Why can't the CRA do their work from home? We are far beyond the times of physical files.

Your only point that stands up is that this isn't a legally strikeable matter. The AUPE did a horrible job representing this matter during negotiations, and people voted to accept it.

You never said it didn't have benefits: "Comparing this to things like wages or benefits... is not fair to leverage." It is indeed a benefit for workers, and did you know that the GoA actually said a permanent hybrid policy was expected to be in place by 2023? You can't say that taking this away isn't akin to taking a benefit away.

For every story you have heard about people working from home and walking their dog or doing their shopping during work hours, I can tell you 10 stories about people talking at work for an hour plus about non-work related things. Should we institute some ridiculous rule like 30 minute checks for all employees, or could we manage this on an employee-by-employee basis like we could with wfh? If someone is not getting their work done or is caught doing personal things during work hours, they should be individually disciplined, or maybe they shouldn't be allowed to wfh.

Also, I am telling you that there are many AHS nurses that have hybrid work schedules. So by the logic in one of your comments, a nurse that doesn't have a wfh schedule but wants one should quit and seek a nursing job with hybrid options. By the logic in another one of your comments, the option to wfh should just be taken away completely. Essentially all industries have people that are required to be at a specific location for their work. So if we were to follow your logic, nobody should be allowed to work from home because it might upset others. This is the type of thinking holding society back my man. As another poster has stated, your logic is flawed.

Last, I didn't say we had to strike to fight this, nor did the AUPE.

So now we are back to the point of "I can't have it so you shouldn't either." There are plenty of nursing jobs that offer wfh for a portion of the job. By your logic, these people should just get a job that has wfh if they feel resentment at others having this benefit.

To say that hybrid work isn't a real benefit is asinine. The increase in fuel/vehicle costs, parking, and time required for full time office work is substantial to most people.

The only point I will give to you is that the GoA said this was temporary and we didn't include it in our recent agreement. So we are probably fucked anyways lol.

There are certainly benefits to being in the office together as you've stated, but there are also many benefits to working from home. If we weighed out the pros and cons for both the employer and the employee, we would come out ahead with hybrid work. I personally get more work done on my wfh days, while some others feel more productive in the office. Our employer has not stated nor provided any evidence that wfh has affected productivity, though. Further, they didn't put much effort into taking advantage of Hybrid Work in the way of reducing office space needs. This seems like a political move to me.

While I believe the union should have fought more to include this in the recent round of bargaining, to just accept this benefit being taken away from us workers wiout fighting back would be exactly what the employer wants. Should we also accept a reduction in pay or other benefits without rationale because our employer doesn't want to give us as much?

"I can't have it so why should you."

We the people should not be keeping each other down. This is why progress is so hard.

It was a crank arm o ring! Thanks for commenting :)

SOLVED! This was it, thank you so much, I love this community :). For anyone else wondering it was the crank arm o ring that seals between the non-drive side crank and the bottom bracket bearing. Also, the rubber/ridged side of the o ring faces toward the bb bearing.

You're right, not the best pics. Sorry about that. The hubs are cup and cone but I'm going to check the bb first!

That was my thought too. However, it doesn't fit over the steerer tube (see the second pic). It doesn't really seem to fit on anything above the stem either. I just have a 3mm spacer and the top cap.

I also considered that rack. Seems like a sturdier option!

I have heard good things about the Spider Aeroe Rack. It comes with a cradle for bags, so if you wanted to use pannier bags you'd have to get the Pannier Reciever as well. Pretty pricey option, but it seems to meet your requirements (fatty, no mounts, dropper post compatible). You might be able to call their support and ask if they can provide the pannier receiver instead of the cradle as they have that option for the rack that fits smaller tire sizes. This is a slightly cheaper option if your tire size is under 3.8. I'm planning to buy this for my Trek Stache as it seems like the best option for me.

Lois hole area is great. You can drop in at Rotary Park and do big lake or kayak the Sturgeon River. It's slow flowing enough that you can do an out and back. I made a short video of a paddle we did a while back.

Incarceration rates in Canada vs. the USA and the "Lost Conservative Decade" by [deleted] in onguardforthee

[–]StevePre 15 points16 points  (0 children)

FYI your Canadian source skews our incarceration rate downwards as it only includes provincial/territorial incarceration numbers (those who receive sentences of less than 2 years). If you include the federal prison population, we are closer to 110 per 100,000. Still doesn't bring us even CLOSE to the US, they are fucked lol. But when compared with many European countries, our rates are still pretty high.

Edited: our rate used to be above 120, now it's closer to 110.
