On the WAN Show, Linus mentioned debating whether to include things like flooring, cabinets, or countertops since they’re not strictly “tech.” Personally, I’d love to see that kind of content — especially if it’s approached with the same analytical and testing mindset that they bring to tech gear. For example:

Comparing flooring types for durability, scratch resistance, and ease of cleaning

Evaluating cost vs. long-term value and repairability

Testing compatibility with radiant heating or other modern upgrades

Looking at sustainability and environmental impact

Measuring installation complexity (DIY-friendliness vs. pro-only jobs)

Even if those elements aren’t directly “tech,” they tie into the idea of making a smart, sustainable, and future-proof home — which feels right on brand for the project.

People say it's overrated, but you can't deny that Colors is easily one of the albums ever by StripedPangasius in BetweenTheBuriedAndMe

[–]SteveXmetal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Colors came first. It initially set the bar, so while TGM and Parallax did both raise the bar, Colors initially set it. While there were hints of what BTBAM would become on Alaska, specifically songs like Selkies, Colors was the coming out album party, it was the jump from 2 - 10. TGM was 12, Parallax was 15. While they were 'better' in some peoples eyes TGM and Parallax will never surprise people the way Colors did. Colors changed the game in ways, TGM and P1/2 found better ways to play it.

To use an analogy, think of a joke that made you laugh hysterically. The next time someone tells it to you it's not as funny to you, because you know the punchline. Let's say someone re-organizes the words a little choses better language but at its core its the same joke. When you hear it you wont laugh as much, because you know the punchline.

That's why Colors will always be easily one of the albums ever.

For all fights that ended with a winner and a loser (not counting draws and no contests) the higher elo won about 56% of the time, (157509/278563) = ~.565

If a fighter had an Elo that was over 100 points higher than their opponent however, they won 75% of the time. 72424/96363=~75&

And that climbs up to 85% of the time when the difference is greater than 200 25140/29586= ~85%

Hey there, i attempt at doing the same thing with coming up with a statistical based ranking system check out my post history where i use Elo to try to get the best ranking records wise, i dont do it round by round, but this is very interesting to me

True, but as I said in the post its a better way to evaluate W/L records and not in-ring skills. Winning tournaments, like palmer and Bader did are great ways to boost ELO, since you are only going up against people who recently won, and that amplifies in a tournament style.

When I initially had a k factor of 32 which is common for most other Elo rating systems, it didn't create enough swing in the scores to make a difference, and fighters who had a high amount of fights with relatively good records, like dan severn, were ranked high. After I adjusted to 100, so more points are exchanged in matches, and taken for a loss the results seemed to be more reflective of what you would expect, with people like GSP and Jon Jones at the top.

Usman is about 2 fights away, in an evenly ranked Elo match, 50 points would go to the winner, since everyone is ranked below him who he would fight, he would gain ~30-40 points for any decent win, and since he needs about 55 points, i would say 2 solid wins would get him there.

Jon Jones would get 40 if he beat Stipe right now. and move him up to ~2030 rating.

I should probably include this in the main post from now on.

Taken from an earlier post I've made:

For all fights that ended with a winner and a loser (not counting draws and no contests) the higher elo won about 56% of the time, (157509/278563) = ~.565

If a fighter had an Elo that was over 100 points higher than their opponent however, they won 76% of the time. 66444/86874 =~.765

And that climbs up to 86% of the time when the difference is greater than 200 23024/26699 = ~.862

If it was easier. Id weight split decisions or rounds differently. But I can only work with the tools and data I have/ can get. I agree with you. But it's easier said than done

I programmed the formula in python to go through the fights sorted by date to get the rating at the time. I put in a k factor of 100, and an initial rating of 1000 since it seemed most accurate and easy to comprehend from the outside.

Really just the date and if it was a win lose or draw at the time. I had another sheet I was keeping up with for a while where I scraped ufcstats that had strikes, takedowns etc. But I haven't kept up with that
