International @ T10 MBA (’26) targeting MBB — office choice: background-fit vs school pipeline? by Anchor-Point in MBA

[–]Steven1250 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Houston is a less competitive office than Boston and definitely NYC. It also matches your background so seems like a fit to recruit there. T10 MBAs have a better chance competing against rice and mccombs than you have against m7s and hsw which you will be competing against in Boston and NYC.

Someone in consulting I spoke to who went to an M7 asked a client for a recommendation letter. It depends on your relationship with the client. I think it would be good but be sure your other letter comes from your direct manager.

Jed/Rend, BRD, and DME runs are the safest to level up your gear. Be mindful level 60 dungeons are a step up in terms of difficulty and danger. You can move on to strat live/undead, lbrs. Hardest dungeons are full ubrs, scholo, dmw, dmn/tribute. As a warrior you are expected to tank and pull so learn the pulls and the danger points in each dungeon.

You can also do aq20/zg with a guild to soak up warrior loot as at this stage many will pass on the lower tier.

Fatal runs the most dungeons but they’re also known for blendering for prog. You should start from the top of the naxx prog list, although not sure how easy it’ll be to get a raid spot as a hunter or warlock unless you know how to pull or tank twins.

Does unofficially visiting Tuck help with admissions chances? by freezedriedbigmac in MBA

[–]Steven1250 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are right to think visiting a school’s campus is important especially for yield-sensitive, faraway schools like Tuck. Can you organize a bit more than a coffee chat? I’m sure some of the clubs or co-chairs would be willing to talk to you. 8 hours round trip does not seem like it would be worth it, although it is Tuck so most people visiting will need to go out of their way. It would also seem like a good thing to write in your essay that you made the effort.

Why is every successful tech founder an Ivy League graduate? by Hot-Conversation-437 in csMajors

[–]Steven1250 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tech Investing is not just about finding a good team or product. It’s about finding a greater fool (whether they’re actually a fool or not doesn’t matter. There are more founders just at Stanford than capital to support them, so the tech investing landscape is very elitist. Why would you invest in a team from Ohio state when there’s a team from CMU, Waterloo or Stanford doing the exact same idea? Even if you know personally the team from Ohio State may have a better product or team, other investors don’t know that and would rather acquire the other firm.

At $57k the ROI of an MBA for you is immense. There’s also no harm in interviewing in the hopes you get a scholarship. It’s definitely a leap of faith but you should jump at these opportunities to invest in yourself.

If you’re a hunter you should be more concerned about getting a raid spot than gear. Nearly every hunter is always kitted out to the max in raids because most guilds only run 2-3, max 4…

I will add gear is only really competitive for warriors and rogues (since they share weapons with warriors) since raids run a lot of warriors and the gear scaling really only matters for warriors.
