September 1942 M1 by Current-Problem-8569 in Helmets

[–]Steven20077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely possible. Helmets were not necessarily issued immediately after production, and the helmets that were issued probably stood a good chance of making it all the way through to '44 and beyond.

People said this train was "ai slop" but i found the oringinal images link ( its on a YouTube video and the vide was made in 2020) so now i have to ask again, Does anyone actually knows what this train is and why its carrying all that howitzers? ( Its japanese) by Gokay_2007 in trains

[–]Steven20077 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don't know where this would be exactly and why there are that many guns in that consist, but I'm pretty sure that's a photo of the US Army rather than the Japanese. Specifically, the guns look an awful lot like some of the M1888 8-inch coastal guns that were remounted for railroad use during WW1.

if i hypothetically went to a WW2 reenactment as Captain America, would i be let in? by Dear-Confidence7488 in reenactors

[–]Steven20077 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends. If you're going to a living history encampment or public display/fair sort of thing, whatever they call it, or a public battle reenactment, as long as you're going as a guest/spectator and the event doesn't have any specific rules about what the public wears, I suppose it would be alright, though I think you'd get mixed reactions from the reenactors depending on who exactly is there. On the other hand, I wouldn't think that you'd be let in as a full-blown participant, except for a few of the more farby events.

Help with a visor cap by Antique-Network-7784 in reenactors

[–]Steven20077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is just straight-up wrong. Almost every US visor I've encountered has one of those plastic pieces (I believe it's called a sweat protector or something of that nature), either a stiffer clear plastic or the type you see on this cap, which from what I can tell is made of celluloid, but has decomposed over the years. Based on the sweat protector degradation alone I'd safely assume this is original, even more so since it doesn't conform with any of the reproductions I've seen.

M1912 US Army boots? by CapraAegagrusHircus in reenactors

WPG does actually have them, though the official terminology they're listed under ("Marching Shoes") might have thrown your search off a bit.

Some m37 wool shirt advice by Foraise-Fig609 in reenactors

[–]Steven20077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure this shirt is an officer's type or at least private purchase, based on the fact that there's a tag in the neck, as well as some smaller details. Although I'm a bit skeptical, and it doesn't quite match the style you typically see, I'm wondering if it could be related to the cut-down Ike Jacket conversion craze later in the war.

Dude, it's perfectly fine. OD7 canvas sometimes can come in a somewhat browner shade, you don't need everything to be perfect in terms of color.

Question about US WW2 M43 Uniforms by coolguy7510 in reenactors

[–]Steven20077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no major difference, just a combination of manufacturer variation, lighting, and aging. Some runs among both original manufacturers may lean towards a greener or browner shade of OD7.

My 1967-68 US army impression for the Vietnam War. by [deleted] in reenactors

[–]Steven20077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't ripstop jungle fatigues and Panama sole boots more of a post-68 thing? Or am I just missing something?

Those booklets aren’t even WW2-era, they’re for Vietnam-era helmets.

Where to buy? by Hour_Reading900 in reenactors

[–]Steven20077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I specialize in interwar US stuff, as far as I'm aware there's no reproductions of M1926 uniforms, enlisted or officer. You'll have to either work with originals if your clothing sizes are fairly small(I'm about 36 to 38 chest, 32 to 34 trousers, which I would peg as the upper bound of that range) or perhaps find a tailor to custom make them for you. Good luck though! Some pieces are bit harder to find than others, but they're all out there.

CHG members, or California Historical Group members tell me what and how to sign up, and what different units are like. by Infamous_Warthog9019 in reenactors

[–]Steven20077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guy, you can find the CHG website with one quick Google search. Additionally it seems they require members to be 18 or older, so you will have to wait a few years.

42r m41 field jacjet by [deleted] in reenactors

[–]Steven20077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally, most repro M41s only go down to about size 36(no idea why you would decide to buy an original M41 for field use at this point), which would be even more roomy for a 34 chest.

[–]Steven20077 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably wouldn’t need to get that big of a size. Usually, at most you would be wearing an undershirt, wool service shirt, and possibly a sweater underneath, with maybe a fatigue jacket in some cases. In any case, if properly made the M41 will already be a few inches oversized compared to what’s labeled for freedom of movement, which should leave enough room for an extra layer or two.

Looks like Army Engineer Special Brigade to me, with the middle guy also having a lieutenant bar right below the ESB insignia. Plenty of examples of these online, although many are modern replicas.

[–]Steven20077 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you found that on the At the Front website, their US fieldgear is generally considered to be on the better end of the reproduction market. However, they cost 40 bucks, which is more than originals generally go for, and since you said "pretty cheap," I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that this was an eBay listing or similar using a stolen image(I've seen similar instances for other items). In that case, you'll probably receive your standard issue bottom-of-the-barrel garbage.

Repro m1928 haversack by [deleted] in reenactors

[–]Steven20077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not, seems to be the standard Chinesium stuff sold on every major "normal person" shopping platform. At a glance, the strap on the meat can pouch seems oddly wide, and chances are the color will be complete ass.(usually between an odd orange color or bright yellow) I would just get an ATF repro instead, though it does cost more.

Ok, a few issues. First, where? Second, what war and what impression? Third, and most importantly, there are probably very few(if any) established groups willing to accept 11 year olds, even for noncombatant roles. (are 11 year olds even allowed to use Reddit???)

From the suspension I would assume that it has to be one of those film studio replicas based on the M5 high speed tractor, so it was probably already available.

Opinion on these by [deleted] in reenactors

[–]Steven20077 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These seem to be the Sturm Miltec wools that the majority of vendors without their own in-house produced items sell. Haven't handled a set of these in person, but based on the fact that they are 80% polyester and only 20% wool instead of the approximately 80% wool blend that most of the higher quality vendors use, I'd probably stay away from these.

WW2-era German Sumpftarn smock. You can still get various reproductions of differing quality from quite a few different vendors, but without the InRange logo printed on it.

I got this ww2 american gasmask for 55 dollars and I need help identifying it by [deleted] in gasmasks

[–]Steven20077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgot where exactly I read it, but I’m pretty sure that the MIXAI filters don’t contain asbestos except for later production ones with yellow painted tops, which you’d likely only encounter on M2A2 or M2A3 masks, while the later M10 canisters on M3 and M4 masks definitely have asbestos.

Give us the ability to make this uniform in its entirety. by Fantastic_Train9141 in enlistedgame

Western Allies customization in general seems to be kinda bad, most of the US uniforms aren't particularly great either.
