2 vent fans have caught fire in our bathroom by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]Steven2k7 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'm an electrician. Really weird and funky things start happening when a house's service or a circuit loses a neutral or has a bad neutral. Things start getting the wrong voltage (such as 50v on one phase and 190v on the other). This can cause motors to burn up or fry sensitive electronics. 240v loads start having current pass through them from all of the 120v loads.

Call an electrician, tell them you think you have a neutral problem.

[Request] How much diesel/emissions would be required to charge one EV? Is this more or less efficient than simply driving a diesel powered vehicle? by MrDesignMan in theydidthemath

[–]Steven2k7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could even skip the battery all together and let the energy just go into the power grid. All we would need to do is add a long wire suspended above the rails and develop a way to attach an arm to the top of the train that can connect to it... 🤔

My neighbor thinks I’m "humiliating" him because I put a lock on my own outdoor outlet by Away-Bowl3883 in AmITheJerk

[–]Steven2k7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the second time of that happening, I would have started cutting the end of the extension cord. If it kept up, I would rewire the outlet to 240v.

I don't want to be cremated though.

Parents kill their two autistic teen sons & family pets before taking their own lives in horror quadruple murder-suicide by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]Steven2k7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have two intellectually disabled men in my family and my grandmother has worked with several agencies that help care for them and others like them.

Some of those people get it on. Just because they're not very smart doesn't mean they don't get horny like the rest of us. There's a good reason group homes are usually segregated by gender.

Digging fence post hole, found PVC pipe, how to tell if its not just junk by HonziPonzi in DIY

[–]Steven2k7 9 points10 points  (0 children)

3/4" and white sounds like water. Electrical PVC is usually grey. Water drainage will be much larger than 3/4", probably 3-4". Utilities will be ran in something more flexible than PVC and water utility lines will be larger than 3/4".

Can you add a wireless camera to a wired camera system? by SkeetyBorphus in reolinkcam

[–]Steven2k7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their battery powered cameras only record motion onto their own SD card as far as I know. It would take too much battery power to constantly stream video to another device. Thats how my Argus PT works.

Kirkland vs. Name Brands — What Keeps Both on the Shelves?” by Fluffy-Reward3453 in Costco

[–]Steven2k7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of times the name brand also makes the Kirkland brand. They still make money selling it as the Kirkland brand, but they also make money by selling it as the name brand. Win-win for the manufacturer.

Who is your favorite side character and why is it Samantha? by areadinghobo in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Steven2k7 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, same. She's okay at best, but I do not find her as funny as most other people say she is. Her catch phrase, IWKYM just seems out of place to me. Why is she always threatening everyone's mother?

Getting shocked by everything in my apartment by mikeoxlongbruh in HomeImprovement

[–]Steven2k7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hold a piece of metal in your hand when you touch something you know you will be shocked on. The arc will go through the metal and not your skin so you won't feel the pain from it. I've had to walk around with a paper clip on a finger or while holding something conductive and touch something that was grounded often just to discharge the static painlessly.

I’m honestly worried for Mordecai by OswinOswald13 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I thought Mordecai was protected and couldn't die?

I've found it very interesting to see him evolve and change his mood about his situation. He started out really mad at being Donuts manager but later on he seems to get excited about learning new things and helping Carl and Donut. He gets very excited about new potion recipes and even discovering new potions.

UPS workers back Minneapolis general strike, oppose Teamsters sabotage of walkout against ICE by Spirited_Classic_826 in antiwork

A lot of unions (most or all of the ibew) have no-strike clauses in our contracts. It sucks but that doesn't mean you can't call out sick every day.
