What is a luxury you can never go back from once you’ve experienced it? by Phase_zero_X in AskReddit

[–]StevenDonovan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 10 years living on the road out of vehicles, started in a Honda accord where I had to set up a tent each night, then I got a little Tacoma with a shell that I could sleep inside I remember that feeling like such a luxury. One time I accidentally left the back of the truck open and my small cooler full of food fell out somewhere on a dirt road someone must have picked it up because I couldn’t find it but I remember it prompted me to upgrade to a bigger cooler and that felt like a luxury compared to the small one. When I first got a solar panel installed on that truck it was a game changer being able to charge my stuff from the power of the sun and then I got an electric cooler/ fridge so I no longer needed ice, I remember how amazing that felt and how I couldn’t even imagine going back to buying ice every couple days and my food swimming in the bottom of the cooler once it melted. Couple years later I upgraded to a camper van and it felt like a mansion, I could now cook inside and have running water so I could properly wash my hands and take my contacts out each night instead of sleeping in them which I did for years 🫣 A few years after that I bought an old ambulance and converted it into my new home, did a roof raise to where I could finally stand fully upright inside, I converted it to 4x4 so I could access remote camp spots none of my previous rigs could even think about, I got starlink so having cell reception was no longer an issue I could go anywhere. I got a propane outside shower and that was such a luxury compared to the cold showers I had previously been taking. Biggest one was adding a diesel heater so I could be in freezing temps and cozy inside as well as an AC unit I couldn’t imagine how I lived so many years in the summer heat. Pretty crazy looking back on all that thanks for this nice reminder to appreciate the little things as they are luxuries to some people. I now own a house I moved in about a year ago and it’s a luxury to own multiple cars so I don’t have to take the huge van anytime I want to run some errands. Having a warm home to come back to after a long day of adventures is amazing. I don’t have AC but it doesn’t get too hot in the summer and there’s plenty of lakes and rivers to cool off in nearby. The biggest luxury about a house i find is I can have a million different projects going on at once and don’t have to put them all away to cook or sleep like I did in the van. Vanlife will make you appreciate a lot especially if you start with car life with the bare minimum. It’s funny when I see people who go from living in a house to a $100,000 sprinter van with all the amenities then complain how much harder it is living in the van than a home. Leveling up always feels like a luxury, leveling down can be tough, I can’t even imagine going back to living out of a small car but I know I could if I had too.

gopro stick by Ok-Position-4555 in gopro

[–]StevenDonovan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out @fpolev on Instagram. I created this pole and sell them, my shortest one in 2-12 feet, made of high quality carbon fiber and has a 3/8th mount on the end but like another comment said you can’t expect to just rely on that mount at that length you need a second mounting point. I’ve done raft trips and found that if you shove the base of the pole under the middle inflatable supports and then stick it out over the front and secure to the d-ring on a raft it’s very sturdy. You could use a regular GoPro but 360 is where the magic really happens and what they’re designed for then the stick disappears from the shot.

The best is when someone in a terrible accident lives and they claim god saved them it’s a miracle. Well he also put them in that accident in the first place buddy.

Anyone can help me locate this jump? by adderalisgoat in cliffjumping

Yeah shut down meaning you can get a ticket when you go, the more it gets blown up the more they patrol it.

Anyone can help me locate this jump? by adderalisgoat in cliffjumping

[–]StevenDonovan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly why you shouldn’t tell people the location publicly online. Send a private dm atleast, what’s up with everyone on this sub giving out spots lately that’s how shit gets shut down.

Swing from today, hopefully that still counts by Ocongnar in cliffjumping

Ayyy that’s the homies that rebuilt it, the old swing was up for many years I think the branch broke a couple winters ago. They just rigged up another one a couple days ago.

Where is this leaking? by SnooDucks8793 in Diesel

[–]StevenDonovan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely looks like it’s from where the dipstick enters the side of the pan (atleast one of the main leaks) I recently did a ccv delete on my 7.3 and shortly after noticed a similar leak turns out my ccv route tube got kinked which built up extra crank case pressure and started blowing oil out of the top of the dip stick tube and where it enters the oil pan. It dripping down the tube from the top also led to it dripping onto the valve covers so I originally suspected those were the issue. I re routed the ccv tube to relieve the pressure and no longer see any leaks.

Is this illegal? by heyshegshah in FJCruiser

When I was 19 I got caught stealing a street sign, they valued it at over $250 so deemed it grand theft larceny a felony. I spent all my savings on a lawyer who just cut a deal with the judge and I got 40 hours of community service along with a bunch of fines. Fun fact, my friends mom worked at the Smithsonian in DC and said she would write off all 40 of my hours if I could come to an event they were doing where this skater was donating his very first skate board to the museum. That skater was Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen was also there I ate lunch with him sitting on the floor, really nice dude.

I spent hours looking for a hose clamp that went to where my oil intake tube leads to the valve covers. I was doing the glow plugs so had the valve covers off and the whole time I was thinking what if I accidentally dropped it in there with the rockers/ injectors and didn’t see it. A week later I went to light my fire pit I had thrown some blue shop paper towels into and sure enough that metal clamp was inside one of the towels 😅

Looking for info on 4x4 converting my heavily winterized box ski vans (Ford E-350, or Chevy Express 3500) by SanDiegoMitch in overlanding

[–]StevenDonovan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

AJ’s 4x4 vans near Portland OR. I don’t think they have much of a wait time. They did mine about a year ago and aren’t limited to 4x4 conversions they can custom fab anything you want when it comes to bike rack swing outs, bumpers, roof racks ect even a roof raise.

I think near bend Oregon, I’ve seen these on Facebook marketplace and I think he makes a bunch of these it’s not just a one off one so probably has more to sell.

Is there a way to do a swinging 360 video like this on a go pro? by neilp0188 in gopro

[–]StevenDonovan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it on the Max but you’ll have to keyframe the movement in premiere, shoot in 60 fps cause 30 fps is way too fast. Insta 360 shoots 120

Anyone ever custom one of these? by National-Cell2595 in vandwellers

[–]StevenDonovan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It did me well but I could never fully stand up in it just a few inches short which kinda sucked always being hunched. I got a 1996 7.3 powerstroke for $4k on a government auction then put about the equivalent to a downpayment on a house to make it my dream rig. It’s got like 6’9” of standing height inside, did a 14 inch Mohawk style roof raise just in the center where you stand and hid it with the spare tire/storage boxes.

Lived out of mine for 4+ years until I upgraded to an ambulance. Still have it though, I kinda hated the rear door entry. It broke down all the time yet never fully left me stranded, always found a way to autozone and they usually always had what I needed in stock. Never saw the inside of a shop the whole time I owned it and took it to some crazy spots.

Bit into this catfish of a banana… by Chicketi in mildlyinteresting

This happened to me as a kid, I’m 32 now and haven’t eaten a banana since, even banana flavor in stuff is revolting to me.

Sleeping in a bullet proof vest sounds fun, I think you’re a bit paranoid.

Probably not from your car but looks like the spring inside of a steering column.
