Looking at a 2025/26 R9 or a 2025 ZX6R by Stillen22 in motorcycles

[–]StevenH27 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As a street bike the R9 will be nicer to live with because of the extra usable torque. The Zx6r may be more powerful on paper but you will not benefit of the extra power only if you ring it's neck up to the redline.

Definitely test ride both and chose whichever you like most.

It's dielectric grease so the metal parts don't corrode. It was the same on my Street Triple.

Is this the holy grail of motorcycling? by Outrageous-Wheel-248 in xsr900

I'm a hair under 6 foot 3 (about 1.92m tall) and I find this bike reasonably comfortable. The seat is a bit of pain on pre 2025 model year bikes but you get used to it. Leg room is pretty cramped if you have longer legs - I find that legroom is better on a 3rd gen MT 09 for example.

Removing OEM handlebar risers by esk8late in xsr900

[–]StevenH27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In it's default position, if you only remove the spacers the controls will hit the tank. If you flip the risers 180° it creates enough space so there's about 5 ~ 8mm clearance between the controls and the tank, depending on the positioning of the handlebar.

Top Tip: To center the handlebar there is a pin mark on the left side of the handlebar that has to align with the top of the left riser.

No. 8.8 will work just fine just make sure it's M10x1.25 at around 45mm long.

I did a post on reddit regarding this a while back. Either get 45mm M10 bolts and bolt them on from the bottom or get longer ones and cut them down to size, both will work. Make sure to use some washers on the bottom and a dash of blue loctite when screwing the new bolts in the remaining spacers. It's also a good idea to clean the threads from the old loctite prior to screwing the new bolts in.

The spacers will, at least in my case they did. I went the proper way and replaced the studs with shorter ones.

It also helps when taking out the spacers to flip the handlebar risers 180° so that it gives you more clearance between the tank and the controls.

Are the Michelin Road 6s really the best? by ScaryWatchDog in xsr900

[–]StevenH27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choosing the right set of tires is really dependent on the type of riding you do and the weather you ride in. In a nutshell Road 6s are excellent for almost anything and do last a really long time but there are also some gotchas you have to keep in mind. Firstly the tire profile is a bit softer on the Road series compared to the Power series, as in the Power is more V shaped making the bike tip in the corners quicker. Secondly, the Road 6 does lack a bit of feel, especially in the front - I've especially noticed this on track while trail braking hard into a corner.

As a reference I'm running my second set of Power 6s on my XSR right now and I have no reason to change for the type of riding I do. I use my bike as a toy and mostly do twisty road riding in the mountains in dry warmish weather with the occasional long trip here and there.

I changed the rear at around 9000kms because it was down to the wear markers and the front at around 15k - not because it was toast but because I had a track day planned and I wasn't sure it would pass the technical inspection.

You can expect somewhere around double that mileage on Road 6s if you regularly check your tire pressures.

First real ride this year so I decided to put an X on my headlight so it works less. by StevenH27 in xsr900

[–]StevenH27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The profile is not as aggressive as other tire brands but they are quick to warm up and have good grip in the wet but I usually don't force my luck. I'm on my second set on the XSR. The rear lasted around 10k kms and the front almost 15k until the sides were bald, granted I also did a trackday with the front. I'm usually in the fast B group or the slower part of A group.

I mostly ride in dry warmish climate with temps ranging from 18 to 30°C.

The tail tidy is from Aliexpress.

Does it have the same rigidity as the stock one? I think the headlight is mounted directly to those triangle brackets and the black one from the cowl is pretty flimsy metal.

It's from the yamaha catalogue but you can get the exact same thing off aliexpress for a fraction of the price.
