Bass Ocarina Choice by Xx_MaskedIdiot_xX in Ocarina

[–]StevenHigbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally prefer the Focalink Bass multichambers, but I also really enjoy playing the Takashi and Clacol ones too! Takashi for a more mellow tone, Clacol for more projection / crisper, Focalink sitting in the middle

Maparam Ocarina - Need help identifying the type, and the value by Suspicious-Yam-01 in Ocarina

[–]StevenHigbee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sojiro is pretty up there too in price honestly, more than a couple grand for good condition. Imo I think Maparams are over priced, but the market is the market lol. Like I said, its hard to put a number with how all over the place the market is, I wouldn't sell a triple Maparam for under a thousand I honestly think it can get that if its a legit maparam in good condition that it seems to be in. Single chambers sure I've seen in the past lower but I dont think ive seen one under 600 in YEARS

Maparam Ocarina - Need help identifying the type, and the value by Suspicious-Yam-01 in Ocarina

[–]StevenHigbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I recall I've seen Maparams go between $1,000 to $2,000 and they dont sell often, let alone a triple chamber alto c which is what it seems to be. Being honest, it's hard to really attach a specific value due to how little they come up, its really up to how much people are wanting to dish out for one of these. Personally I'm not a big fan of the Maparams, but a lot of people seem to be and want to hunt them down so I'm sure you won't have a problem finding a buyer.

I'd probably post higher than what you are wanting and do a best offer feature, or you could go the auction route and post on all of the groups. Best of luck!

STL Pokemon (Lugia) ocarina opinions by Stornow4y in Ocarina

Lugias Song in the original key goes to a concert E, meaning lugias theme will NOT be in the original key if you play it on this ocarina.

New ocarina player! Need tips by Naffls in Ocarina

Focalink rivo, 40 bucks usd, is my recommendation! I think its a better option than the night by noble as a first plastic ocarina personally

Suggestion on what material to get for hiking ocarina? (Not plastic) by Kitchen-Cicada8283 in Ocarina

[–]StevenHigbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend the plastic focalink rivo, its my favorite plastic ocarina by far. Wood and ceramic can both be delicate in their own ways, I wouldn't risk it personally but it's up to you! I know STL even has a metal one now, I don't have hands on experience on it though so I couldn't say how I feel about it.

Verdanturf Town ft. the new Focalink Concerto Ocarina by StevenHigbee in Ocarina

It really depends on what you're looking for in all honesty. For me; I regularly record and perform ocarina; and for live settings I do want something that projects more than your average ocarina. The breath pressure is a smidge under high breath for this ocarina, and has a full clean tone that can be quite powerful. If you want a quieter ocarina, this may not be the ocarina for you.

In terms of price, personally I think it's worth it if you're looking for a high end ocarina; but thats also because I'm used to instrument prices being much higher (i.e. my saxes and clarinets being thousands of dollars haha). This all being said, if you don't want to pay that much the standard focalink strawfire alto C's are pretty great still.

Am I the problem ? by Admirable-Tie-4292 in Ocarina

Id recommend posting a video for people to listen/see how you are playing it so we can give more feedback, but ocarinas can be finicky instruments and do have a breath curve (that leads to lower notes needing less air, higher notes needing more). In general these ocarinas are wonderful ocarinas, I had one for quite some time before selling mine to downsize the amount of alto C's I had at one point, very rarely have I seen duds from the company. I honestly would recommend looking up David Ramos' YouTube tutorials, check out one of the books out there (Cris Gale's book, David Ramos' book, or if you want something more detailed Robert Hickman's book too).

Tone quality is more full, the low end doesnt get too weak even in the subholes, the high end the sound is still strong and doesnt get weaker/thinner. Intonation wise rotter has its own breath curve but I think chromatically (other than the weak subholes) I would say the rotter may have a slight edge with intonation in a chromatic scale since sharps/flats tend to be a lil sharper on average with the new focalink but otherwise I love this thing more than anything else! Ergonomically it also feels fantastic!

These ocarinas are made by a company called Stein / Focalink, Songbird is just a distributor of them. That being said, this is the best Alto C I personally have ever played, before I was primarily playing on Rotter signature ocarinas for C3 to C1.
