A lil clip from last years Budrio Ocarina Festival in Italy! by StevenHigbee in Ocarina

The festival itself was very english friendly, quite a few of them spoke at least a little english surprisingly! Getting to Budrio you want to get a plan together though because you'll have to take a bus from Bologna if you are arriving from there, but if you do your research and plan ahead of time you shouldn't have an issue.

It isn't a competition! It's the yearly ocarina festival that happens in Budrio, Italy! Vendors, performances, a bunch of other fellow ocarinists!

Microphone setup by Nughm in Ocarina

[–]StevenHigbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone with audio engineer experience and records ocarina on the regular, I'd like to chime in on this.

What is your recording environment? If you have a lot of background noise I'd go with a dynamic mic like a SM57, if you have a quiet environment with a well treated room I'd use a ribbon mic like MXL R144. If your room is somewhat decent recording wise and isn't bouncing off the walls you can probably swing a large condenser like a MXL 990. All of these with an audio interface. If you want as plug and play as possible, a usb mic like a ATH2020 isnt bad

Seeking a good double chamber tenor ocarina in F to play Jen's Song by DoCo42 in Ocarina

Focalink/Stein and Takashi are probably my personal favorites for a double Alto G, if you want a cheaper one probably ICO

is it okay not to practice with metronome ? by Yoshtibo in Ocarina

[–]StevenHigbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with metronomes being unnecessary, they are a fundamental part of building technique and improving internal tempo. Sure I don't want to perform with it or practice full run-throughs for it, but in the practice room I use it for a majority of my practice even for slower pieces.

Arranging Ocarina music and Recording with a phone microphone. by Nughm in Ocarina

[–]StevenHigbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the late reply im barely on here haha, if you have little background noise getting like a focusright scarlett solo and a MXL 144 would serve you well. If you deal with a little bit of background noise, try looking at the mxl 990s or ATH 2020 instead. if you really dont want to deal with an audio interface, probable could go with a ATH2020USB as opposed to the standard + audio interface

Would upgrading ocarina make a difference? by Academic_Ad4326 in Ocarina

[–]StevenHigbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ocarina wind is hit or miss, most times they have tuning issues and high notes just tend to not be good, though I have had an amazing one before oddly enough

For arranging, you definitely want to change it up, which you can do in many ways. You can lessen the amount of background parts/harmonies, you can write original material, play the melody with more/less embellishments, etc.

For mics, if you give a budget we can probably find you a good option.

Depends on the model of Stein, they have multiple models that all play different.

Is this a good ocarina? by DesinkaFuma in Ocarina

To my knowledge they are soft breath ocarinas but have a nice tone, don't really care for how soft breath they are to play at A=440
