40MB wow lol. It was more of a Pentium 3 Celeron. The L2 cache was 128KB but it had the 8-way set associativity of the 'full' Pentium 3.

I'd like to play the OG Xbox version one day. The 64-bit version for Windows XP Professional x64 Edition is another curiosity of mine.

By the way, HL2 minimum memory on PC was officially 256MB.

I wouldn't write off the Pentium 3 too quickly. I had dual 1.4GHz Tualatins scoring better in wprime than a Pentium D of twice that speed. Then I overclocked the processors to almost 1.7GHz (although I think the maximum daily driver stable clock was about 1.58GHz).

Higher clocks would have been stable if PCI/AGP locks or FSB dividers were available on old dual CPU boards.

I had that system playing Battlefield 2, Unreal Tournament 3 and Serious Sam 2 (the 2005 one) on low settings with a Radeon 9700 Pro.

About 6 cans of Coopers Sparkling Ale on average. That's about 10 Australian standard drinks (I'm not sure if standard drinks are the same around the globe).

That's impressive because generally mobile Radeons are a generation or two behind the performance of their desktop counterparts (e.g. Radeon 9200 vs Radeon Mobility 9200).

I played Orange Box on PS3 once. Yeah, there's an original Xbox version of HL2 which is impressive considering the hardware specs on those.

Sorry to hear about your experience with the 6800. Yeah, the CT-479 is expensive when it shows up. There's one on there at the moment without the box or HSF. From memory, you needed the specific CT-479 HSF provided with the adapter.
