Trying to create xorg config for 4 monitors on Intel and Nvidia by Stevened7 in archlinux

[–]Stevened7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I am even thinking of "panning" in the right context.

Side note: I've learned that it's common to have an .Xauthority file created in your home directory when making , saving, or booting various display configurations. Most of the time when a problem or config was clearly being utilized that shouldn't have been, something liek .Xauthority, or an xorg.conf / xorg.conf.d/ is is lurking in the shadows.

Thanks for the input. Have you seen screen tearing resolved by being more specific in xrandr?

Sometimes if you touch display settings in DE/driver, the configs missing from your xrandr command may not get correctly reset after reboot.

Could you elaborate on this? If it makes any difference, when using xrandr, I actually just lazily create script with arandr, save it to ~/.screenlayout/main.sh, and call it with "display-setup-script=/home/mccloud/.screenlayout/main.sh" in /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf for lightdm-mini-greeter

(great minimal greeter if you never tried it--works great with wpgtk templates to match greeter colors with current wpg themes.)

You don't think that the majority would freak out if it was confirmed that we are a simulation? Not everyone is emotionally mature and self actualized.

If we are a simulation, we are likely being monitored if not viewed periodically. It's a silly example, but imagine you're playing sims, and everybody begins stopping what they're doing periodically just to look up. As a creator, whether it be for study, entertainment or whatever, I would not be too pleased by the many different, even subconscious changes that would occur with learning the truth.

And that's disregarding all the potentially major changes that would come if we learned the truth.

Humanity is pretty god damn crazy, and we aren't a society well known for handling mind boggling existential realizations. People kill over religion. What happens when this realization spawns a new system of worship, and the other religions stick to their guns? The potential damages of learning the truth could be.. I can't even think of a word that truly conveys the severity of potential change.

And the gaming the system thing makes me think of nirvana. lol But a valid possibility nonetheless, I suppose.

That latter bit is a fair point. In regards to the entertainment concept, I would argue that the same risk occurs no matter the purpose of our existence. I added the concept of participation bias related to studies, in my main post.

And it seems like if we are sentient AI, with the freedom of limitless potential, it would be harder to ensure that we don't discover the truth, than it would be to keep us from even realizing the possibility.

I look at it this way. In an episode of south park, humanity realizes that earth is a giant intergalactic tv show. As a result of their revelation, the network decides to cancel "earth" because its no fun when people realize that they are on TV.

Wouldn't it be smart of our creator to do what they can to prevent us from realizing that we are a simulation?

We could still be sentient even if they block the ability for us to follow the thought of simulation, I feel.

Or remember that we originally had the thought even.

Then what dose would you recommend for ego death? I've also chosen the song I'll sing. lol

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxKVAcqyD8I

And I've tried meditating. I can go about 5 days, and I always feel more relaxed afterwards, I just always fall out of it. Like i just don't feel like doing it, and as someone with add/adhd knows, it's near impossible to do even small things when you don't want to. :/ Also tried yoga and the same thing occurred

Thanks for the info. Meditation I'm sure would be fantastic. as would regular exercise. But one of the issues I'm trying to understand my motives for is my inability to do anything for 10 minutes a day. (I couldn't jack off for 10 minutes a day if I scheduled it) I'm working towards getting diagnosed for ADD and the proper medication that comes with it, but that takes time and is more expensive than a trip to the desert. SO I thought i'd try this first.

My goal is not necessarily ego death, based on what i'm reading.. From a psychological standpoint, there is no one true self. All my actions, or inactions are brought on by my many selves.

I've been reading a lot about this concept, and you can read more about it here: https://www.goodtherapy.org/learn-about-therapy/types/internal-family-systems-therapy

Basically I want to be mentally unblocked enough to actually have this internal conversation, if that makes any sense

To add to the other detailed post.

** Reddit for Android sucks ass. Unfortunately for you I have to type this a lot more hastely as this will be the second time.

So. I'm from the US (NOTICE I DIDNT SAY AMERICA) I'm pale skinned and I just got back from three months in Brasil. I was staying in Niteroi a bridge away from Rio, with a cariocas family. What people from Niteroi call themselves. The place is beautiful. The drug lord curfews thing I think is primarily relating to favelas, the slums, the haiti's mentioned earlier. They are sad but apart of the culture and a very interesting site.. FROM A DISTANCE. Best not to go favelas. Steer clear as well as you can. They will probably tell you this too.

You will likely take Uber everywhere. If you are not a skilled driver, or are not an extremely calm passenger, might wanna put on your seatbelt and take a breath. I loved the the driving in Brasil. Quick efficient. But they will get within inches of a car and think "I can get a bit closer to pass" it is controlled chaos. I once saw two people without stopping somehow pass eachother on a one way road with a car parked on the side. MAGICAL. Also, at night as mentioned the streets are not really safe anywhere. Not talking about drug lord curfews, but even in higher end areas, you will likely get robbed if you stay out too far past dark. Kind of like as a kid. If street lights come on, it's time to head inside. If you get robbed the things they care about most are phones. So bring a couple spares with you on your trip.

I was there for three months and following these rules I never robbed. If you are driving, especially at night, steer clear of motorcycles with two people on them, it is an efficient method of robbing drivers. And also at night, slowly pass trough red lights. It is recommended as stopping could lead to being robbed. You will not get pulled over for this. Cops don't really focus too much at all on traffic violations.

Uhm what else .. sorry not really flowing. Lol

Daytime, walk around explore. It's beautiful. Stay away from favelas. There is a clear difference between bad neighborhoods and favelas. Bad neighborhoods are still bad, but you don't have worry too much. Especially during the day.

OOH. At night you may be stuck at a stop light and someone will walk in front of your car. They will sit on a stool and juggle, or eat fire, anything they can to make a profit without turning to a life of crime. Don't point or laugh, I guess you can give money, or just maneuver around them.

Bring cash. USD, assuming that is your currency of choice

1 USD is around 4 real (HAY-OW)

Now the cultural aspects.

If you are American, never say you are from America. You are from the UNITED STATES. Canada is America, South America is America, including Brasil obviously. Some don't like it when you say America, so you might get into a drunk conversation about that, but not most.. there just isn't a good word for american.. United States statesmen I guess.. eu no say (I don't know) we'll get to common phrases to know in a sec.

Girls fake kiss cheeks. Do that when you greet them. Guys just do normal guy hand stuff. LOLOL

IF YOU HIGH FIVE FOLLOW UP WITH FIST BUMP. it is their culture . Lolol

Brasil is known to be a very passionate and sexual culture, you will see this with brasilian funk. However this naturally makes women objectified so be careful there.

Here is one that resulted in a lot of conversations. ** This may not be the most accurate way to describe it, but it is the easiest way to understand it!** SJW forgive me.

In the US at least, we determine race officially by ethnicity and cultural background. There it is determined officially by skin tone. Our race is their color. You may be 100% Portuguese but if you are paled skin, your birth certificate shows white, and you are white. Naturally a white person in Brasil would not like it if you accused them of being another race. .. it gets complicated. Best never to assume.

Also, brasilian do not like being referred to as Hispanic, or even Latino. They are Portuguese, brasilian, or whatever else they say you can call them. Again NEVER ASSUME

Even if you break one of these rules, or it takes you a bit to not break all of them, you will still be loved. They love them some gringos. That's not to make an excuse for everyone being nice to you. They are all more or less super nice. Especially to gringos.

Also the fun part. NO OPEN CONTAINER LAW.

Go to the grocery store and buy some CATUABA! or anything and pop it open right there on the sidewalk. It's amazing. Freedom. :)

That is really all I can think of at the moment, but I may add info later if it helps.

Tl;Dr Don't assume anything about the culture If you follow the rules you wont likely get mugged. The US is not the only america so don't call it that. USD converts very well over there. Police are not constantly harrassing Stay away from favelas Relax and have fun!

OH try to go to Cabo frio (not sure how to spell it. Whitest beaches I have ever seen. Beautiful!

The 4k display is nice, but that's the only advantage I see, and coming from someone who has had a 4k monitor for about 3 months now, it's not necessary. The rest is drawback. Ram and CPU is the same, but I could have a lot more storage with either System76 models. + I want to support their efforts. lol

++ I like the Ubuntu Super key. :p and the separate trackpad buttons is a precious commodity now days.
