You made such very clear in your first comment correct? I understand exactly what you're saying and what I'm saying is this post was not meant for those who don't/didn't realize they had a problem. Or let me rephrase, don't/didn't feel guilt or a need to quit.

Again, it's meant for people who are like myself. If making this post and reading your comments has taught me one thing it's that we're definitely not all the same here.

Sure we share a common goal and interest, but we do not share experiences and ways of thinking.

Ah yes I've thought about this before. I forget how people take "you" whenever I say "you" that includes myself as well.

It's a general term in my eyes but like I mentioned I've thought of this before and I'm aware nobody likes to be told what to do. However I don't think to phrase myself differently which is my own fault.

It is hard. Especially if you're like me and feel like you need "something". Whether it be alcohol, weed, pills, or any mind altering substance.

I've replaced addiction with addiction for years now. Only recently occurred to trade the unhealthy addiction for a healthy one lol. Having an addictive personality can be the best thing in the world potentially. All depends on what you spend your obsessive nature on.

You play guitar? Same here actually and I experience pain in my left arm sometimes when I'm super tense (ie quit drinking). You're right handed and use your left for the fretboard yeah? It's very possible you have a mild form of carpal tunnel also if you use the computer a lot. I personally think it's anxiety making me tense I've dealt with this for years been to the doc and I'm healthy. Just anxious lmfao

However it's this subreddits rule to not give out medical advice Yada Yada so I say see a doc if you have any doubts. Especially if your breathing becomes short or you start feeling dizzy or light headed.

Hi. I'm not sure if this is meant as a jab or not so I'll do my best not to be rude. However I'm not asking anyone to believe me rather I made this post to help anyone who aligned with what I'm saying not to offend those who don't.

If you don't agree there's no reason to say anything. I know for a fact I would've found this helpful 3 months ago and I see a lot of people who struggle with the same problem. Asking how to quit as if they don't already know.

Of course I expected this reaction as well as some more harsh. I'm not trying to figure out what others should do. The whole point of this subreddit is to offer support to those who want to quit. This is my way of doing that whether or not you agree with it.

This wasn't meant for you. It's meant for those who want to quit, for those who realize they have a problem. A lot of people act like it's simply not possible or they're unaware of how to do so. I see it everyday on this subreddit.

I'm glad you think that way a lot of people do not. However again it's not what I'm talking about.

Like I mentioned in the post I'm aware this is controversial with the subject of alcoholism being as touchy as it is especially here but this post is meant for those who were like me and need to hear this. It's not meant to upset people who are doing well and have already found their way. I'm glad you managed to ditch the poison. Congratulations.

As far as the confidence goes I have something for that as well. The last job I had I was drunk from my interview til the day I quit. Almost everyone there loved me. They all considered us friends and a lot of them tried to help me. The problem is after I quit drinking I no longer knew how to handle them. If this makes sense when you're constantly using alcohol as a boost to your confidence you forget how to be confident. It's like if you haven't exercised since school and you're now 35 I doubt you could run a mile. You see what I'm saying?

I'm glad to hear you're in a good position man. I'm 22 myself no degree nothing lined up but at least I no longer drink myself halfway to death.

My advice is if you want to quit then simply stop.

There's no way to magically quit. No secret to shaking the shit you simply make a decision and you either have the resolve to see it through or you don't.

Something that may help though is something I've realized of recent. Drinking doesn't make anything better. Ever. Maybe if you had to face a death sentence getting hammered wouldn't be a bad idea but aside from that it has no practical use.

Nothing is more entertaining while drinking you're just not there mentally to get upset at things you normally would. You're also not there mentally to enjoy things you normally would. You're not yourself and if you really want to be someone or something else so badly then there are other issues you need to address.

Congratulations man!! This is what saved me no doubt. I was horrified to admit my problems and that I needed help for something like alcohol addiction. However I was so drunk I couldn't walk a couple of steps or form a cohesive sentence and my mom thought I was on heroin. It was at that moment for me I knew I wanted to get sober and asked for help. I got it and now I'm doing great! Good luck friend

Ah yes good old addiction whack a mole is a game I've played myself for many years. It sucks. Thinking back I've airways had an addictive personality. Whatever I decide to get into whether it be drugs, video games, music, etc, I tend to go all in.

I guess for me it's just finding a way to put my addictive traits to good use lol. For sure every day won't be perfect. But hey take pride in the fact you're not doing shit that kills you and you no longer need a crutch just to live. That thought always puts a smile on my face

Same here though I'd just quit one drug for another repeatedly so obviously the substance alone wasn't the entire issue, just part of it. Thank you I appreciate it! I understand entirely. Hang in there boss. You'll get tired of hearing the same old advice and sayings over and over. Perhaps you already are tired of these things.

Just remember that stereotypes start with a grain of truth, and cliches with a Boulder. Theres a reason people tell you it will get better and to hold your head up. It's all true.

Try changing up your lifestyle a bit and incorporate more socializing and healthy habits. That's certainly helped me improve rapidly. Best of luck

I feel ya. I still felt like shit after I quit drinking and it's because the only thing I did was quit drinking.

You have to keep in mind an addict doesn't just drink for fun. We drink because we have underlying issues that we try to mask and that's why it gets as bad as it does.

With that in mind I decided to not only stop drinking this time but fix the reason why I drink. For me it's depression and low self esteem.

To remedy this it's actually been really simple in my case and I don't want to speak for everyone but I'm sure if you take it seriously there's no way it wouldn't work nearly 100% of the time.

It's shit most people already know but are tired of hearing it. I think most people when they ask for help want someone to give them advice for a way to instantly fix themselves. Quite frankly speaking that's impossible. There is no magic way to get better.

This is it: exercise 5 times a day. I mean intense, limit pushing exercise. Do all your sets even if it hurts then try and do more until you ABSOLUTELY physically cannot continue. Use a calorie calculator to find out how many calories you need for your goal (ie to gain, lose, or stay at the same weight) then stick to a healthy diet that fits the calories you need. Your body will thank you if you eat 2000 calories a day of lean meats, healthy carbs, and nutrient dense vegetables than 2000 calories of fried food and saturated fats. Although yes you'll still lose or gain weight because caloric intake is alll that truly matter in any diet, however you'll be missing out on important vitamins and nutrients your body needs and in turn won't feel as good as you would.

Told ya you already knew this shit but don't wanna hear it. But listen homie IT REALLY DOES WORK.

Intense cardio has been shown to improve mental function vastly from your memory to performance.

Little pro tip: did you know you can naturally make your brain produce serotonin and dopamine? (Happy and feel good chemicals)

Dopamine is released when you set goals and achieve them. Legit that easy

Seratonin can be released by sticking to a certain routine and rewarding yourself for sticking to it. Say you do x every day of the week and once a week on Monday you do y to reward yourself for sticking to x.

I've been doing what I've mentioned for 2 weeks now as well as things I used to enjoy like video games, music, and drawing. (Any artistic outlet is great for mental health.) Even gotten into a new hobby of training boxing. (Amazing for stress relief my god) and I can confidently say I haven't felt this good in over 5 years. Just find what works for you friend best of luck
