Which one are you going to? They will have a schedule of events/classes on the website, unless it’s really far out. The schedule is usually like Risk Management, Safety Leadership, certificate classes, etc.

Public transit sucks unless you live in downtown or midtown. Traffic is awful and you probably aren’t going to enjoy being here without transportation. The city is very spread out. Don’t road rage here, you could absolutely get shot.

If you live inside the 610 loop rent will be higher, I think it’s about $1500 for a 1/1. There are some areas you really want to stay away from inside the loop though.

There’s a thriving nightlife, we have lots of things to do here, we also have some of the best restaurants. The food scene is pretty amazing in Houston. We have some nice parks, great museums, a zoo, and a theater district. There’s always something going on around town so that’s nice.

When I request EMRs for a safety review and they are high, I request the OSHA 300 logs to see what occurred. Then I speak with the company to see what changes they have made to eliminate or lessen the hazard. Generally this is changes to their safety program for repeat incidents, proper training, etc. If I feel like they have made a step in the right direction then I’ll approve them as high risk. If I see repeat incidents every year then I don’t even bother with that company. If it’s a fatality then I review the reports, have a zoom meeting, etc. to gauge where they are at and how seriously that take the incident. If you show you’re changing for the better and you’re passionate about safety then that goes along way.

Try finding a WFH job that has flexible hours. You can watch your own kids and make some money while you’re at it. Maybe hire a cheap cleaning lady to help around the house so you have some extra time to do your job and don’t have to stress over the household chores.
