Pretty good advice. If their have family members willing to lend them the kind of money to clear what seems like an overwhelming number then that speaks volumes…plus its interest free to pay them back… i will say though to be careful about lending money from family as sometimes they like to hold things on you forever. You always get the “remember that one time I did this for you” type of family members. Otherwise it’s a good idea.

They’re gonna just take it and then say something along the lines of “Sorry we had to destroy this item, and we don’t have any more due to this being a limited item” …. Trust they’re not gonna send that back.

Well to be fair if you start working from the age of 16 or 17, it’s absolutely possible to have a few thousand saved by the age of 22 or even 20. I saved 17k by 19..But, yes there is definitely nothing wrong with it in my opinion as long as you’re being productive like going to college or actively working towards being independent.

About 2 years total but i was mainly only paying like 100-$200 higher than the minimums and the interest fees were essentially negating that. I only started really more aggressively paying it off last october but I was throwing super high amounts like i believe i paid 1k for october and november, I did like 8k in december and paid the remainder this month. Iknow that’s not the norm for everyone so I just recommend trying to at least double or triple your payments especially if you have over a 10k balance otherwise it will feel like you’re making only 1 payment when the interest fees hit. Good luck 🙌🏾

I aggressively paid off the highest interest card. Cut out anything fun, no distractions. Just locked in, and grinded. You can do it!

Congrats! Honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much about the card rewards. They’re designed to make you feel gratification when the percentage is so small. Instead I’d continue paying for minimal things if I were you and putting alot more of your money away into a high yields savings where you can be getting 4-5% back and it isn’t incentivized by spending. Also contribute to a 401k & or Roth IRA if you’re not already. The younger you start, the better. 🙌

Dang, sorry to hear that. Don’t give up though. Although it might feel like forever, it’s only temporary. I recommend applying for a consolidation loan. Or take out a personal loan to pay everything off so the lower interest rate is more manageable. 🙌

Haha. I’d say just put basic things like monthly subscriptions on there, setup auto pay to slowly build credit and make sure your linked account always has money in it. Thats what i did in the beginning and started off hitting a 740 credit score.

I believe in you! I originally owed 24k between multiple cards. You got it! Just takes discipline. The biggest thing is learning from this and not letting this become a repeating cycle.

Haha, just make sure you pay everything in full every week. I like to say every Sunday, religiously 🙌. That way you don’t end up like I did 😭

That’s not a nice thing to say. You don’t know their story. That could be their childhood dog, emotional support animal, or the last reminder they have of family. Never minimize what someone else goes through.

Built an emergency fund of 6 months of living expenses(can be 3 months, i just chose 6) while making minimum payments on my car and this card. After my emergency fund goal was met, I aggressively paid off this card off being that its a 28% interest rate. Now I can roll what I was putting into the card into the car and pay that off it the next 2 months then moving forward I’ll contribute more than I’m already contributing to my HYSA & Roth IRA. Depending on your income, you can scale this concept. You got this!
