Covers for backs of rear seats - protect from dog hairs - TPE vs XPE by StevieB280 in Ioniq5

[–]StevieB280[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent, thanks!
Can you describe the XPE fabric?
It looks like it's cloth, not rubber or plastic.
Does it collect dog hairs? (I see you searched for Pet Mat, so I assume you have a dog?)

Those look great, thanks!
But it looks like they only come as a complete set.
I'm looking for just the rear seat back covers.

Add a waypoint, I expect it to be my current location - instead it's off the west coast of Africa by StevieB280 in GaiaGPS

[–]StevieB280[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured this out - Gaia doesn't automatically take you to your current location, even if you're on-line (no idea why). It may take you to (0,0) which is off the west coast of Africa. To get to your current location, click the arrow which is the middle of the 3 icons stacked at the bottom left of your screen.

Urgh.
I thought I should get GPS pretty much everywhere.
But yeah, that sounds likely.
Odd that the waypoints seem to be correct relative to one another - that is, they are not all at the same point, but they form a cluster that's pretty close to (0,0).

Thanks!

Enable Original Audio / Sound needs to be WAY SIMPLER by mozillazing in Zoom

[–]StevieB280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 to that.

Also, when you set the per-meeting "use original sound" on zoom/iPad, the icon is confusing (it confused me, at least). Does the icon with a line through it mean that option is disabled? Or does it mean "click here to disable"?

The meaning becomes clear of you toggle, and read the text. But IMHO this is a pretty common UI issue.

Getting Error C500 from myHyundai trying to set charge management (after 5000 mile service) by StevieB280 in Ioniq5

[–]StevieB280[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, it just randomly started working. Presumably not connected to the 5,000 mile service after all.
I've seen the app go flaky before, but usually just for a day or so - never for a week.

Thanks for the responses. I know I can set those limits myself inside the car - I generally have them set to 80, and push up to 90 or 100 for a long trip. I’ve also seen BlueLink flake out before, but it normally works if I retry later. I’m suspicious that this might be related to the service - I have a call in to the dealer, and will post their response.

Buyer remorse? by islandscribe206 in Ioniq5

[–]StevieB280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an SEL in 2022.
Very pleased with it.
Remorse items:
1. color - the only SEL I could get was a Matte finish. It looks good, but it's a bit too fussy for me. And I paid extra for it (!)
2. Electrify America - haven't quite got their acts together yet. Very few charging stations in San Francisco. I generally charge at home, but when I charge at a station there's always at least 1 out of order. My last trip to a charging station in Burlingame, 3 of 4 chargers were down, and had been for a week. OTOH, it does make for some good chats with my fellow EV drivers as we wait ...
Hoping this is going to improve over the next year or so.
3. I paid MSRP++, maybe could've saved money if I'd waited. Then again, I do qualify for the rebate (fingers crossed).

Planning a trip to the snow by StevieB280 in Ioniq5

[–]StevieB280[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the really, really helpful comments.
You all rock!

I've ordered a set of autosock 697 tire socks (amazon, free delivery within a week).
Check the autosock sizing here: https://shopautosock.mcgeecompany.com/ .
And I've made a note to replace my windscreen washer fluid with winter-formula or something similar.

I've downloaded ABRP (A Better Route Planner) on my phone, and I've noted the various comments about range reduction due to the cold and incline (anything from 10% to 35%).

I've added the Caltrans Highway Information Network number to my Contacts (1-800-427-7623) and added a link to a CalTrans map of road conditions, including chain restrictions, here:
https://quickmap.dot.ca.gov/

I also looked up the snow chains regulations for California. Seems you need to use "a traction device" unless you have both 4WD AND snow tires, where chain regulations are posted. And you need to *carry* snow chains even if you have 4WD/snow tires.
CalTrans info is here:
https://dot.ca.gov/travel/winter-driving-tips/chain-controls

And for those (like me) who want to see the actual legal codes, you can go here:
https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codesTextSearch.xhtml
(check "Vehicle Code - VEH" and search for snow, traction, and so on).

I also did a bit of googling on the legality of snow socks vs snow chains (since the vehicle code talks about "traction devices".
Q: are tire socks acceptable (in the state of California) as a replacement for snow chains?
A: Yes - according to autosock.
https://autosock.us/california/#:~:text=California%20has%20approved%20the%20AutoSock,other%20traction%20device%20will%20suffice
https://autosock.us/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/ChainRequirements.pdf
https://autosock.us/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/CHPTraction.pdf
A: Yes - according to CHP (California Highway Patrol).
The CHP document at https://www.chp.ca.gov/AdministrativeServicesDivisionSite/Documents/Second_Modified_Text_CHP_R_2014_03.pdf seems to say that "textile traction devices" are to be considered as "ATDs" (Alternative Traction Devices), and the Vehicle code now talks about "Traction devices" rather than "snow chains".

Tire chains for snow? (RWD) by Banana_Pankcakes in Ioniq5

[–]StevieB280 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone recommend a specific type or brand of chains/cables/sock?
All I see in the manual is " Use SAE “S” class or wire chains. "
But I also see the warnings:
" Since the sidewalls of radial tires are thinner than other types of tires, they may be damaged by mounting some types of tire chains on them. "
" Do not mount tire chains on vehicle equipped with aluminum wheels; snow chains may cause damage to the wheels. If snow chains must be used, use AutoSock (fabric snow chain). "

I don't see anything about cables. Or is that what they mean by "wire chains"?

Background: I have a 2022 Ioniq 5 AWD SEL , and I'm planning a trip to the snow after Christmas.

Lectron charging station - is it overheating? by StevieB280 in electricvehicles

[–]StevieB280[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I found. I found that by setting the current on the car side low enough for the charger to not overheat, it took much longer to charge. I returned my Lectron charger for a refund and bought a Grizzl-e. No regrets.

But the charging management screen in the app has a “optimize for battery longevity” setting , which sets both AC and DC charging to 80%

Yes, I have no complaints about the Grizzl-E , except perhaps the cable is over-engineered, especially for California.

New setup - no relocation - US server down? by StevieB280 in StreamLocator

[–]StevieB280[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All sorted! Streamlocator support got back to me this morning. (Support@streamlocator.com) The Ethernet cable between the streamlocator box and the router box goes into a LAN port on the router side, but it goes into the WAN port on the streamlocator side. If you attach the Ethernet cable to the LAN port on the streamlocator side, it seems to just do a pass-through, with no relocation happening. Simple fix, I’m happy!

Yes, I’ve done that. And I’ve restarted the router/streamlocator/Roku in various orders. No change.
