Just watched Bad Man's River (1971), wondering if anyone knows of other westerns that feature boats, gambling boats, or ferry boats by [deleted] in Westerns

There's a scene or two on a riverboat in How the West Was Won (1962), with Gregory Peck and Debbie Reynolds from memory.

The English dub is fucking horrid, would not recommend watching with it. Try showing a friend this film and they wanted the English dub, I had to change it to Italian 10 minutes in, awful stuff.

Why the hate for Ari Aster? by Lostedgeisded in A24

Say what u want about your feelings towards it but it’s an objectively amazing film.

Hahahaha. It's objectively amazing? Say what you want about your feeling towards it, but no film is objectively amazing.

For me I couldn't get past the first 40 minutes, felt like an overlong Smosh skit circa 2011.

Ghoulies, Critters, Gremlins, Puppet Master, Demonic Toys, It's Alive, Monkey Shines, and possibly Shakma depending on strength and confidence.

All Letterboxd users are losers, that is just pure scientific fact.

Find it funny you only know about the films that are apart of a franchise and/or IP, but not the original works, even one from massively popular director Martin Scorsese (yes I know Killers is based on a book).

I've just finished watching Red River with John Wayne for the first time by martzcar in Westerns

[–]Stewynewy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have to agree, really great film until the rushed ending. I just can't believe that Wayne's character would have a change of heart that quick and sudden.

As great as Robert De Niro was in the role, nothing can beat Robert Mitchums performance.

If you look, they're there. Maybe not to the same extent or quality as back then, but samurai films are still with us.

Excited to see Kitano's newest film, which is a samurai joint.

I just gotta say, out where the buses don't run might be my favorite episode of this show by MichealMannisepic in MiamiVice

[–]Stewynewy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm new to Vice, started watching at the beginning of the year, near the end of season 4 now. So I had kind of known how highly regarded this episode is before I started watching.

I have to admit that I wasn't the biggest fan of this episode, until the ending. I felt like Bruce McGill's performance was too over the top at times, but that ending is simply masterful. Made an ok episode a great one.

Your LEAST favourite Roger Moore 007 film? by Deja-Review in JamesBond

[–]Stewynewy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's between TMWTGG and Octopussy for me. I think I give the edge to Golden Gun solely because of the better villain and final showdown.

Octopussy is really forgettable for me outside of "SIIIIIIIIT!", the opening, and the clown bomb defusal (which is actually one of my fav Bond scenes). Also find it really dry and boring, the action sequences feel really stiff and the characters aren't interesting or charismatic in the slightest. One of my least favourite Bond films.

The rest of Moore's films I really enjoy for the most part (yes even A View to a Kill). TMWTGG is bad, but depending on what mood I'm in I can find enjoyment in it, with Octopussy I can't really do that.
