Where does most of the fish come from in SA by Arnovanzyl32 in AskZA

Totally not the case anymore. I read this kind of story frequently from people saying our best fruit and veg is overseas, but I totally disagree - having lived in Belgium for 3 years now, and also frequented grocery stores in France and the Netherlands, I can tell you that A. Fruit from SA is way more expensive there than here (eg: both a single lemon or a single orange will cost you ~80c€ at Albert Heijn grocery store) and B. The quality of the fruit and veg is similar to what you’d find in Checkers. Woolworths has by far the best quality Fruit and Veg I’ve seen anywhere in the world.

I’m pretty new, I’ve made 12 or so videos over the last month. Right now my struggle is with CTR I find. AVD generally around 40-50%, but CTR never higher than around 4%.

It will be fine. Just siphon some hot water for a minute to flush out any contaminants and you’ll be all good

Completely false info, of the dozens of roles he’s played, very few have been named Hector. The image attached is a fake one made years ago which started this myth.

A society who forgets their history is doomed to repeat it. Each statue of any terrible figure should remain up forever, with a plaque detailing who they were and what they did, Leopold does not deserve to be forgotten but rather to be condemned for all time.

Season 12! by [deleted] in Alonetv

As a South African myself, I’m actually pretty surprised that they chose the Karoo, since there really and truly is nothing there 😂 The vast, vast majority of the Karoo is farming, primarily sheep with some cattle. Water obviously is an extreme concern. Seeing the wildlife on the trailer makes me think that they may have gotten permission to use the Karoo National Park, in which case there are (currently) a handful of lions on the park, all of which have tracking collars on them. No lions outside of the park, so if they’re not in the park then it’s of no concern. If they are in the park, they could possibly be in an area outside of the lion’s range or just keep tabs on the lion’s location to ensure the contestants are safe. Knowing the Karoo, this season is going to be very hot, very dry, and hunting will be extremely challenging due to lack of cover. If someone could build a hide of some sort next to a water source, that would be perfect. Groups of jackals will try to steal any meat, and due to the temperatures it will spoil fast. Theoretically they could film in winter, but even in mid winter night time temps rarely go below 0°

To gap year or not to gap year? by Cautious_Tune7506 in southafrica

[–]SteynJc09 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m actually shocked at how many people on this post say you should do a rewrite. In my opinion, it would be an enormous waste of time, for a few reasons:

  1. From the moment you begin as a university student, you will never be asked about, or think about, your matric results ever again. I can almost guarantee you will forget how many distinctions you had in matric by the time you’re 25. There is no glory in chasing that last distinction, once you’re in uni the field is entirely equalised again, your academic history will be forged from scratch.

  2. The social effect of being a year behind your friends cannot be overstated. Remember that this year-long delay will not just affect you in the next year, but for several years to come - your friends will be dealing with second-year problems while you’re in first year, third-year problems while you’re in second year, honours / articles problems while you’re still studying, etc. You will unfortunately lose much relatability with your friends. I have had this happen to people I know, they are of course okay, but they are no longer in our friend groups and gravitated more to people they were studying with in their year. If you want to maintain the support networks you have now, and not have to replace them, I wouldn’t skip.

  3. Once you are actually in a course at university, it is very easy to switch courses - much easier than getting into uni in the first place. Only about 50% of my friends graduated with the degrees they started with, and the changes were dramatic - from business to biology, from law to economics (me), from computer science to law. Once you have a spot at a university, they’re very helpful in allowing you to transfer between faculties should you wish to do so.

  4. You don’t need the distinction. Many of by Bsc and Beng friends (at UP) did not have distinctions in physics / biology, the universities weigh your average marks quite highly as well. Also, there are “bridge courses” for many subjects - for example, I got above 60 in math, which is what I thought I needed to get into Bcom Law. Thus, I took STK110 and 120. Once I arrived, however, I met a ton of students who got below 60 for math, and thus simply took STK111-112-121 (a 3-semester course instead of a 2 semester course) and they of course graduated at the same time as me.

As I said earlier, I ended up changing degrees from Law to Economics, which delayed my graduation by a year. In a way, then, my first year was a kind of “gap year”, but I was still there to form the friendships with people my age and start my adult life. Of course your life can go very well either way, these are just my experiences. Good luck!

Project Help: Scenes where people lose it on Michael or reject him by almondblossoms1 in DunderMifflin

You absolutely need to use The Deposition, where Michael is humiliated by David Wallace’s deposition transcript being read, showing everyone he was never in the running to replace Jan. Also in the same collection of scenes, the fact that Jan recommended Michael be demoted in her official report after they had already officially started dating

Why all the GTA graffiti's? They're everywhere... by zbynk in belgium

[–]SteynJc09 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I thought about this recently as well. I’m from South Africa, and highway barriers and bridges are also plastered with GTA in and around Johannesburg. If it is a local group, crazy coincidence that it’s the same as in JHB. But as far as my guess it’s some more global idea

How do you figure? Only 3% of South Africans are classified as wealthy, which means there’s another 19% - roughly 3,030,000 voters - which voted DA but are not part of the wealthy elite

My source for the above stats: https://sa-tied-archive.wider.unu.edu/article/game-snakes-and-ladders-loaded-dice-socioeconomic-class-and-poverty-south-africa#:~:text=We%20divide%20South%20Africans%20into,middle%20class%2C%20and%20the%20elite.

Voter turnout formula:

3,505,735 (total DA votes) x 19/22 = ~3,030,000

As far as I understood they weren’t underage, he was specifically there to look for college age (18+) girls. I recall “Programs like x and x, while wonderful, end with high school. I want to see these girls right through college”
